I liked that Fontaines DC record. Kind of a Dublin Idles it's okay to like afaic

re: Lambert, only 3-4 real outright killers on the level of the last album, but not a bad listen
― bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:30 (six years ago)
I've only heard a couple of Fontaines DC songs and they reminded me of Idles so I didn't investigate any further. Didn't realise they had any kind of following on here.
― kitchen person, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:34 (six years ago)
Whoa, worst cover I've seen so far
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:34 (six years ago)
That's actually an oddly cropped version of the cover I'm familiar with.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:36 (six years ago)
Ah ok, that would make sense.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:37 (six years ago)
Listened to Dogrel a lot last year and put it on my ballot. Absolutely hated the Idles album

lambert record is great, think i voted for it? not a masterpiece like the last one but they can't all be
― american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:41 (six years ago)
one more and then i'm out for awhile; expect a few PM options to appear.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:41 (six years ago)
enjoying caterina barbieri!
― nxd, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:41 (six years ago)
I guess with Ecstatic Computation placing, at least one thing from my ballot did. Which is nice.
― babu frik fan account (mh), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:41 (six years ago)
thank u for bringing it to my attention!
― let's talk about gecs baby (sleeve), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:42 (six years ago)
nm i did not vote for it. only thing to place from my ballot so far is cate le bon
― american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:42 (six years ago)
fontaines dc didn't speak to me at all.
the national album was incredibly impressive, but i had a hard time sitting through the whole thing. not in kansas and you had your soul with you were my choice cuts.
re: tyler - count me as a flower boy-preferrer too, but igor certainly had its moments. never thought i'd describe tyler, the creator as background music, but here we are. still, i liked it enough for it to sneak in my personal top 50.

PM options
Eh?
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:43 (six years ago)
I am indifferent to Fontaines DC overall, but I do like "Boys in the Better Land."
― jaymc, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:47 (six years ago)
This countdown is so much less contentious (and, I guess, less heavily trafficked) than the tracks rollout!
― dad genes (morrisp)
You can listen along with the tracks rollout and give immediate responses, and that doesn't really work with albums. You've got to either know them already or have a larger amount of time to spare.
― emil.y, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:49 (six years ago)
Just catching up, not heard many of today's albums so far but Igor was one I voted for - I hadn't clicked with anything Tyler had done since that first mixtape so it was a pleasant surprise how much I enjoyed this. Sounds like I should give Flower Boy another listen though.
The clipping. album is an odd one for me, bits of it I found really effective but as a (quite long) album it just didn't hold my attention.
― Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 3 February 2020 19:54 (six years ago)
this clipping. album. you guys could have told me! I was expecting some harsh Dälek type stuff but this is truly excellent
― doorstep jetski (dog latin), Monday, 3 February 2020 19:56 (six years ago)
listening to the clipping. album for the first time now, really liking it
― Dan S, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:02 (six years ago)
I voted for the Miranda Lambert album just on the last two songs, which I've listened to again and again and again and again and eventually I'll listen to the earlier songs again
haven't heard (of) any of the earlier albums, well I've heard of the national but never heard them
― juntos pedemos (Euler), Monday, 3 February 2020 20:08 (six years ago)
Hooray for Matana Roberts, basically.
― Ngolo Cantwell (Chinaski), Monday, 3 February 2020 20:17 (six years ago)
Wildcard on this second pass sounds like a companion to Platinum, not really a copy but in the same vein (complete w/the "bad shit is gonna go down" duet w/the slightly lesser country star). it's really a good one. likely would have voted for it if i'd spent more time listening. Mess With My Head is A+ for sure.
― omar little, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:18 (six years ago)
So despite liking and voting for Clipping I didn't actually know anything about who was behind it until today and am surprised to find out it's that guy from Hamilton.
― Chris L, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:19 (six years ago)

I skip the interludes and "La Mala Ordina" a lot, not because I dislike them but because I'm often anxious to get to the next song and don't often have the luxury of time (related note: meetings suck)
― totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Monday, 3 February 2020 20:19 (six years ago)
La Mala Ordina is fantastic I think!
― Dan S, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:21 (six years ago)
one of those tracks where the features are absolutely critical to the narrative
― TOO LOW, the Curator (imago), Monday, 3 February 2020 20:23 (six years ago)
DJP otm about Clipping.
Associating enunciation and wordiness with corniness is suss

that's why it's corny, it sounds like something that came out when i was in college. but ILM loving music that sounds like it came out when they were in their early 20s is very on-brand.

clipping. sounds exactly how I wanted all these anti-pop consortium / dälek / cloudead bands from the early 2000s to actually sound like. fair to say certain attitudinal parallels with Algiers in some ways?
― doorstep jetski (dog latin), Monday, 3 February 2020 20:52 (six years ago)
finally, some bona fide rock n roll
― frogbs, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:52 (six years ago)

imo yes, also some goth cred to both
― bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 3 February 2020 20:53 (six years ago)
haha, the clipping album ends with a performance of Annea Lockwood's 'Piano Burning'!
― Dan S, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:54 (six years ago)
I only had time to listen to two Clipping tracks, but Shabazz Palaces was my immediate comparison
― rob, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:54 (six years ago)
I *loved* most of Clouddeads stuff tbh but I get the comparison.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 3 February 2020 20:55 (six years ago)
Whatever you do, don't listen to it hungover xp about piano burning

Better Community Oblivion Center is a good album, grew on me after writing it off as ok-ish initially, although still clearly the lesser of Phoebe Bridgers' side projects, and obviously her debut album was the best album of 2017. New album coming soon!
Dylan Thomas is a massive song though and I was hoping to see it place on the track poll
