I honestly don't have time to parse all that text

What are you, the queen of England? You say you don't have time to learn the truth about Poppy? OK, keep your head in the sand.
― kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 21 January 2020 20:15 (six years ago)
idk considering the "truth" you've provided so far (a one-paragraph four-page monologue by an alleged abuser's brother) i think it's more likely your head stuck in wet cement

― idgaf (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 28 January 2020 21:00 (six years ago)
Damn, this album is good. Lots of crowd pleasing nods to pop history but every song is coherent within itself. The vocals hold everything together beautifully.
― Jeff W, Sunday, 2 February 2020 16:05 (six years ago)
saw her last night in boston with ilx godfather tom e., the first of two sold out shows at a 475-cap venue near my apartment. it was great, the crowd was bonkers, and the tatu cover ruled
― maura, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 13:44 (six years ago)
Jealous, what Tatu did she cover?
― hyds (gyac), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 14:01 (six years ago)
she's been doing "all the things she said"
― american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 February 2020 14:01 (six years ago)
that is the only tatu song anyone knows and was my cast-iron assumption tbf

Given Grimes' words dealing with Poppy/Sinclair et al, I definitely feel some sympathy to the brother's side of the story. Having loosely followed this drama over the years, I felt they were both shitty people. Poppy's comments exposing Sinclair's attempting suicide and its impact on the family (stated by his brother) is BS, and reprehensible. It's certainly not the first time this sort of thing has happened in Hollywood. That said, drama aside, the video/song is good. What Poppy does moving forward will be interesting.
Perhaps Titanic Sinclair should change his name? He's probably ostracized at this point though. For everyone automatically alleging his status as an abuser, take a minute to also truly internalize the perspective his brother states above (despite his lack of carriage returns; it was Reddit, you need two there).
FWIW all the drama is a classic case of "don't shit where you eat"
― octobeard, Thursday, 6 February 2020 00:01 (six years ago)
i... would not take grimes’ word on anyone anyway
― maura, Thursday, 6 February 2020 00:22 (six years ago)
for the record (Grimes' beefs were all business)

― octobeard, Thursday, 6 February 2020 00:47 (six years ago)
I have to admit I’m not shedding any tears for Titanic Sinclair here.
― hyds (gyac), Thursday, 6 February 2020 00:54 (six years ago)
I'm not either, but I also don't shed any for Poppy.
― octobeard, Thursday, 6 February 2020 01:02 (six years ago)
just fyi it's not unusual at all for abusers to engage in suicidal threats and actions in an attempt to control a person
it's also fine for a survivor to talk about this happening to them
― idgaf (roxymuzak), Thursday, 6 February 2020 18:01 (six years ago)
all four new songs out today on the deluxe edition of i disagree really rule, especially "if it bleeds"

she also released a studio version of her "all the things she said" cover a few months ago
― ufo, Friday, 14 August 2020 09:52 (five years ago)
it always amazed me what a great song "all the things she said" is. this version is good too.
― treeship., Friday, 14 August 2020 13:08 (five years ago)
tatu was such a creepy "concept" for a girl group. but you just can't argue with that synth breakdown part.
― treeship., Friday, 14 August 2020 13:09 (five years ago)
some googling reveals that "all the things she said" was co-written and produced by trevor horn of the buggles. interesting.

Was "Concrete" in last year's songs poll? I'd like to vote for it this year.
― swing out sister: live in new donk city (geoffreyess), Wednesday, 2 December 2020 16:57 (five years ago)
Most romantic song since "Agoraphobia."
i don't think anyone voted for "concrete" last year, now is the time

idk the acoustic christmas ep had me wondering, is all
― mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:14 (five years ago)
i didn't really expect that to be representative of anything in the same way that i wasn't expecting the impressively bad noise EP she put out last year to be either
― ufo, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:19 (five years ago)
this rrrrrips
― maura, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:20 (five years ago)

its really nice to have someone making heavy music calibrated to exactly what i want from it
― ufo, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:31 (five years ago)
lol she lost the grammy to ice-t
― G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:46 (five years ago)
but yeah the last album was very good and this is too! she's really upped her game a lot! i am amused that she is opting for a St Vincent look here.
― G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:48 (five years ago)
Huh. I don't mind what I've heard from Poppy at all but this performance is kind of a sweet/sour-spot blend of "I'm enjoying this" and "This is calibrated to sound like the guitar is a mosquito tied down to a splinter and shoved into my ear."
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:49 (five years ago)
i despise poppy and have from the second i encountered her a few years ago. just had to register that i guess.
― map ca. 1890 (map), Sunday, 14 March 2021 23:55 (five years ago)
her early stuff was pretty terrible and the turnaround has really been something
― ufo, Monday, 15 March 2021 00:01 (five years ago)
"This is calibrated to sound like the guitar is a mosquito tied down to a splinter and shoved into my ear."
yeah it rules
