Oh wow this is great. I'd found her previous stuff a bit shonky and overcompressed but I'm three songs in and this is hitting a spot that so much other electropop misses these days.

The first 3 songs were about as good as it got tbh, but I’ll try again. “Started Out” rules

The Tuff City Kids remix of Started Out is one of the tunes of last year

Wish there were more About Work the Dancefloors and fewer white girl MIA tracks on this

About Work The Dancefloor is great but not the best thing here and a whole album full of songs like that would sound so rote and there are dozens of albums out there if you want that sort of thing. I get that there's a big constituency here with an apparently limitless appetite for vaguely 80s Robynish synthpop but this album is at its most fun when it's not doing that.
The MIA-isms feel lightly worn here, and may even have seeped in subconsciously, given her age and background then MIA is exactly the sort of thing she'd have been listening to as a teenager - not to mention everything you'd have been exposed to from birth when your dad was one of Leftfield. A song like Feel It seems to split the difference between MIA and later Orbital.

Had no idea her dad was Neil Barnes

xp I obviously didn’t mean carbon copies of AWTD, just songs close to its quality, though your defence of the MIA-lite tracks seem to indicate our different tastes
