i know i can never resist chiming in with her there
― Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)
it's funny cuz it's not obviously like an emotional song, but one day i was listening to it and i really got the emotional intensity of it - the intensity of what it is to be by yourself in your house.
― Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)
thing i like abt "get out of my house" = the incredibly startling scream she lets out right before the male voice (ghost?) comes in
― impudent harlot, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)
yay my fave tied for first and I didn't even vote
― Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)
i tend to associate this album w/ a time when i was feeling anxious (in a bad way) about lots of things so i still get this sort of knot in my stomach whenever i hear that track in particular
― impudent harlot, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)
xpost "get out of my house" i mean
suspended in gaffa fuiud
― cankles, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)
well, it is definitely a disturbed track, so it's no surprise you've attached it to a disturbed frame of mind
― Surmounter, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)
I don't know why I'm crying

not really sure how i could ever say that "get out of my house" isn't an obviously emotional song...
― Surmounter, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:26 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, I never really stopped to think what that song might be about, but I guess like many songs, it could be a lot of things. I just love the breathless back-and-forth, barely controlled intensity of the way she sings on that, and it makes it fun to sing along. So dramatic.
― Bimble, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 18:39 (seventeen years ago)
how did i miss this poll, what the hell
suspended in gaffa is easily in my top 3 songs all-thyme, right there with hunger strike and total eclipse of the heart

A Hounds of Love poll would be much more high-stakes for me: i'd be shattered if I was the only person to vote for "Hello, Earth", but curiously uncomfortable if it won.

Yeah, my buddy has decided he's totally in love with Kate on the basis of his recent discovery of Hounds of Love, but until he learns to appreciate this album he's not really a Kate fan at all in my book.
― To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Friday, 10 April 2009 15:50 (seventeen years ago)
still a fucked up album
― surm, Thursday, 27 March 2014 00:09 (twelve years ago)
and still one of the best vocal deliveries ever on "if you go, i'll let the law know"
― surm, Thursday, 27 March 2014 00:24 (twelve years ago)
Pull Out The Pin, Leave It Open, Sat In Your Lap and There Goes A Tenner are my favorites. This or Aerial must be her best album.
― jay., Thursday, 27 March 2014 08:29 (twelve years ago)
wtf @ firstly, me missing this poll and secondly, "leave it open" coming last. easily my pick
― lex pretend, Thursday, 27 March 2014 09:08 (twelve years ago)
Definitely. My #1 in the overall Kate Bush poll in Aug 2012!
― Michael Jones, Thursday, 27 March 2014 10:48 (twelve years ago)
missed this but it wouldve been "pull the pin" or something from side 2. such a great album.
― brimstead, Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:41 (twelve years ago)
yea leave it open is some modern next level shit
to this day i still can't really talk about pull out the pin bc she's too good on it
― surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 00:57 (twelve years ago)
glad to see "all the love" represented here -- I mean I'd have voted for get out of my house obviously but that's one of kate's most underrated tracks
― katherine, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:03 (twelve years ago)
i RATE it! highhhhhly
― surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:56 (twelve years ago)

somehow the cover of this album captures so much of what I love abt Kate bush

Leave It Open 1
No way!
― The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 20:35 (nine years ago)
Suspended in Gaffa - which has one of the best internal monologues in any pop song ever
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Friday, 31 March 2017 21:07 (nine years ago)
It's hard to say what I would have voted for, this is an incredibly strong album. Is it my favourite Kate LP, though? Nah, that would be Never For Ever.
― The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 21:21 (nine years ago)
It's tough but right now Leave it Open seems right.
things that decay things that rust

Houdini.
― Max Florian, Friday, 31 March 2017 22:41 (nine years ago)
It feels wrong and crude to pick a favorite from this album, but I guess I'd go with "pull the pin" or the last track.
― a but (brimstead), Friday, 31 March 2017 23:03 (nine years ago)
Pull Out the Pin. Very easy choice. The album is a stunner, and it features probably the best use of the Farlight CMI ever
― beamish13, Friday, 31 March 2017 23:28 (nine years ago)
I don't know if about best, but when it comes to albums where the Fairlight CMI played a huge role, then The Dreaming and Hounds of Love are definitely in there among the best examples.
― The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 23:41 (nine years ago)
This is impossible; LIO was robbed.
― chihuahuau, Saturday, 1 April 2017 09:13 (nine years ago)
So Wild Beasts stole their entire Cockney-criminal art-pop schtick from "There Goes A Tenner," huh?
― goodoldneon, Tuesday, 14 January 2020 21:03 (six years ago)
I am proud to have been the only vote for "Leave It Open"
― The Squalls Of Hate (sleeve), Tuesday, 14 January 2020 21:06 (six years ago)
I have decided this album will be my go-to answer for favorite album of all time for the following 3 years.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 24 June 2024 17:19 (one year ago)
Incredibly accurate top 4 in this poll
― nashwan, Monday, 24 June 2024 18:31 (one year ago)
Marvelous album. Can't believe I've never commented on this thread, I hope I voted in the poll. (Tho no idea how I did if I did, probably GOOMH but possibly the title track.) To me it sits separate even from her other work, it has a musical and psychological density that isn't like any other album.
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Monday, 24 June 2024 20:35 (one year ago)
I still like it a shade less than Hounds of Love. Maybe the only album in my collection about which I can apply admire-more-than-like.
But I can blast "Houdini" and especially "Get Out of My House" anytime.
