dont get this track
― autogucci cru (deej), Sunday, 21 June 2009 09:01 (sixteen years ago)
I've only just heard this and Deej OTM. Expected this to be annoying in an awesome, boshing, insanely catchy way and instead it's just annoying in a really half-arsed sub-Flight of the Conchords way.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 21 June 2009 13:24 (sixteen years ago)
this is not about radio play, it's about embracing a novelty electronic song in a slightly ironic wacky way, which applies to both Doc Martin hipsters in 94 re sagat and keffiyah kidz in 09 re wacky fast food song
I think you are overthinking this man - it's more about "there have always been novelty records and people dig a good novelty record every now and then" & moreover the pop charts have pretty much vaccinated themselves against good novelty records so if you're gonna enjoy a nice stupid summer novelty jam it's gonna have to come from homemade style stuff
IOW it doesn't really have much to do with hipsters except that they're the ones making the novelty records. if Rick Dees wants to get off his ass and write a good sequel to "Disco Duck," everybody'll throw down for that too for for the time being it's people who claim Brooklyn comin w/insightful wry observations about the intersections of commercial culture & personal interaction
look for my presentation on this in Seattle this year

take that reduplicated "for" and change it to "but for" for improved readability
― worm? lol (J0hn D.), Sunday, 21 June 2009 14:12 (sixteen years ago)
what a fucking vile record this is
― lex pretend, Sunday, 21 June 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)
"indie fuxxor electronic novelty hit"
is there a phrase more tailored to making me break out in hives
― lex pretend, Sunday, 21 June 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)
btw i hate fun and comedy
this is the one they talk about in the song, on Jamaica Ave and 160th

― DJ MARTIAN IS A KING AMONG MEN. Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 21 June 2009 15:08 (sixteen years ago)
PS this song is shit and at the risk of Tuomasing it all up I don't get why it's supposed to be funny
― DJ MARTIAN IS A KING AMONG MEN. Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 21 June 2009 15:09 (sixteen years ago)
i don't know if you're 15 or something like the rest of the autogoon cru or whatever, but flannel dudes at my school were def doing the "maaaan... funk dat" thing for about 6 weeks.

fyi i'm maybe 2 years younger than you, and i do remember kids in middle school quoting "Funk Dat" but i think it was more from it being on Beavis & Butthead than that they were indie kids and it was an 'electronic' hit (is hip house really electronic music? i have no idea)
― some dude, Sunday, 21 June 2009 15:14 (sixteen years ago)
i do not care for this either
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 21 June 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)
it's the tim-and-ericization of the music industry

yeah whiney I'm sorry, you know I dig & respect you for real, but you really do sound like you're up on some the-kids-aren't-funny-but-when-we-were-kids-we-knew-what-was-funny shit here. like "the tim-and-ericization of the music industry"? newsflash man, the music industry has always been like that
― worm? lol (J0hn D.), Sunday, 21 June 2009 19:43 (sixteen years ago)
i fucking love "llama school"
LOVE
― billstevejim, Monday, 22 June 2009 05:43 (sixteen years ago)
p.s. prolly xpost, dont feel like reading thru this thread, but the original version is quite terrible, while the wallpaper remix is something i totally wanted to dismiss as shit but i'm simply unable to resist, while remaining completely aware that it contains numerous similarities to Electric Six's "Danger! High Voltage" including an off-key tenor sax solo
― billstevejim, Monday, 22 June 2009 05:46 (sixteen years ago)
Pizza Hut has recently expanded its menu beyond pizza to include pasta, giving it some reason to alter its branding. Media and advertising trade publication MediaWeek characterized the name change as an attempt to transform its stores into hip hangouts.
― dorkus malorkus (latebloomer), Monday, 22 June 2009 06:26 (sixteen years ago)
just goin to chase some tail at the hut, you know
― whiney g. gordon liddy (J0rdan S.), Monday, 22 June 2009 06:28 (sixteen years ago)
i think the wallpaper remix is a nice production job but i cant get with the song as a whole. okay, i get it, it's supposed to be a joke and rapping is funnie, right, but at least be a competent rapper to make it interesting. i cant give their (imo) dearth of technical ability a free pass just cuz it's supposed to be a joke.
― matos w.k.iw (k3vin k.), Monday, 22 June 2009 06:30 (sixteen years ago)
this, ladies and gentlemen, has been a serious post on DAS RACIST's "combination pizza hut and taco bell"
good save cuz i was itching to sb
― whiney g. gordon liddy (J0rdan S.), Monday, 22 June 2009 06:32 (sixteen years ago)
hmm i heard this when it first came out. don't really feel anything for it. i also haven't been in either a pizza hut or a taco bell for....well, since i was 14. i am not a fast-food chain type of guy.
that said, all my friends were really into "We Fuck You" by Electrik Red last night.
― the blowhard is the blowhard (the table is the table), Monday, 22 June 2009 07:38 (sixteen years ago)
'we fuck you' is so great - really funny but it could never be mistaken for an indie fuxxor novelty hit.
― lex pretend, Monday, 22 June 2009 08:03 (sixteen years ago)
Is there a dance that goes with this novelty hit? I heard it for the first time and thought of chicken noodle soup with a soda on the side immediately.

Is this song supposed to be funny? Because it isn't.
Das Racist is a GREAT band name, though.
― Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 02:02 (sixteen years ago)
okay, just a note: SAGAT released an absolutely fantastic record on Cajual back in the day. Derrick Carter and Ron Trent used to spin it all the time in older sets.
