Black Hole soundtrack .. interesting .. obligatory Father's Day post, I loved the Black Hole so much when it came out that my dad took me to see it twice in the theater. Couple years later when "strong songs" WJLB used Alexander Robotnick's "Probleme's d'Amour" in their promo commercial and Electrifying Mojo played it on his show, I swore tbat Robotnick stole the main synth lick from the music that plays while the space station is shown hurtling toward the black hole in the flick ...

god damn you :( I have been scouring the internet for a reasonably-priced copy of that record ever since becoming the last person on earth to discover No Other a few months ago.
to contribute, I've been trading a bunch of CDs and DVDs in lately and putting it towards vinyl, so:
- Grizzly Bear, Veckatimest ($7.99 new w/ free Amazon Prime shipping! packaging was absurd, though - they put it in a big-ass cardboard box w/ a bunch of PVC balloon bags; I mean I'm not usually Captain Save-A-Environment or anything but it was kind of stunningly wasteful.)- Animal Collective, Merriweather Post Pavilion - Karen Dalton, It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best (AMAZING)- Cat Power, The Greatest (sold my CD copy a while back but it's like night and day w/ the vinyl. just amazingly warm & beautiful.)- Vashti Bunyan, Lookaftering (ditto) - Blue Magic s/t- Todd Rundgren, A Wizard, A True Star (for some reason this sounds like ass - the record doesn't look particularly worn or anything, but there's barely any bottom end whatsoever)- DJ Kaos 12" (omg @ the Tiedye remix)- Walter Jones 12"

sitting there for like 2 years so fuck thatcould've been a dick and said "look it's obvious you've overpriced these if they've been sitting here this long" but i've been on the other side of that and didn't want to be an asshole. are those 1st two really that rare? i guess the first one is 2lps, iirc

yeaa you lucked out! those first pressings wear out fast, it's tough to find one that isn't shit. they didn't know what to do with 56 minutes of wild badass cosmic pop back then, i guess. i almost picked up a recent reissue (used) which didn't have the die-cut cover, but i passed. there's no reasonable way at all to split it into 4 sides, that's how the chips fall i guess. would give an arm + leg to snag a 7" of "sometimes i don't know what to feel" or "just one victory" (i don't know if these 7"s exist, but he had to have put something out as a single, right?). ok now i will definitely pick up a square copy if i see one
― winston, Friday, 26 June 2009 04:48 (sixteen years ago)
I got both of those Yello records for $12-15, so yeah 30 is pretty far over. Both are single LPs.

also Scott, do you have any copies of Two Sides to Every Story? my newfound Gene Clark obsession refuses to relent.
― passed on the lead in "all i can do is crossups cuz ihave no skills" (jamescobo), Friday, 26 June 2009 19:23 (sixteen years ago)
i don't. i have my own copy, but not one for sale. i have kindling by gene parsons for five bucks though! actually, i just looked and the only gene clark i have for sale is the 4 men with beards reissue of white light. i bought that cuz i thought it would sound better than my original, but it has a two or three second pressing glitch noise during one song and i can't live with that! i think i'm gonna sell my dutch-only pressing of roadmaster too cuz while it looks pristine it's a little too scratchily for my tastes. but i'm a freak. i'm sure someone else wouldn't mind much. i'll probably sell it for 10 or 15. still goes for 30 or 40 usually.

I love this thread. yay vinyl!
I got Sweetheart Of The Rodeo and the two Shuggie Otis records and I think I'm gonna get the Death LP and a couple of the "East Side Story" comps and "African Scream Contest" and the Deep City Eccentric Soul thing
meanwhile, listing my entire CD collection on Amazon to fund vinyl binges is not going well...I guess nobody buys cds

so i put four michael jackson records up on ebay and made 75 bucks. i had them priced at five bucks apiece in the store. i would have sold six records and made even more but a friend of a friend called me up at the last minute and begged me for a copy of thriller and off the wall so i sold them to her for ten bucks total. cuz i'm nice like that.
― scott seward, Saturday, 27 June 2009 22:03 (sixteen years ago)
AIGHT, won an auction for Two Sides - I ended up catching feelings and overspending a little bit in the name of GRAAAAH MY RECORD MYYYYYNE, but I'm rationalizing buyer's remorse away since (a) the price I ended up paying was more or less market value so it's not like I was getting ripped off or anything and (b) I figured I had a little extra spending capital since I absolutely robbed someone over that Left Banke LP.
other weekend purchases: Grace Jones, "Nightclubbing"; Willie Nelson, "Phases & Stages"; Marshall Crenshaw's first LP

i browsed in three different places that had records yesterday and i couldn't find ANYTHING that i wanted. granted, one was a huge comix/anime/game store with a big used vinyl section and one was a depressing cd store with a fairly large used vinyl section. but one was an honest to gosh record store. i'm not THAT hard to please. so sad.
― scott seward, Monday, 29 June 2009 17:54 (sixteen years ago)
I went to a record store Saturday and was annoyed with the prices. The two stores I've been to here in Orlando (Park Ave and Rock n Roll Heaven) are too expensive. Everything was $10 this, $15 that, $20 this, $30 that. I saw a record I gave away - for good reason - selling for $20.
Eventually I settled on an Elliott Carter Nonesuch thing for $3 and Ricky Nelson's self-titled for $4 (or prices vice versa).
