what's in your top five this year, deej?

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:15 (six years ago)

“Pop Out” remix is unnecessary, but it’s basically a bonus track as it is

jacquees, full of cobras (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:26 (six years ago)

Btw, the Polo G album isn't actually very long, but it feels long, as in it could use a bit more variety. I have to be in a particular zone to want to listen to it. If I'm in that particular zone, it's excellent though.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:26 (six years ago)

So lots of albums that people like here, but can we say it's been a nor particularly good year for trap?

Frederik B, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:27 (six years ago)

As far as French trap is concerned, TripleGo's Machakil and PNL's Deux frères were both pretty good.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:34 (six years ago)

I could never get into PNL, I have to say. Too ambient.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:38 (six years ago)

Suit yourself. That's exactly what I like about them.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:42 (six years ago)

The PNL album is excellent, imo Au DD is one of the songs of the year.

I like Rod Wave. Will give a few of these a listen. Thanks.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 14:46 (six years ago)

rod wave is excellent, he works better for me in small doses tho. his beats are lush, but get a lil same-y

lucki's days b4 iii was excellent, just came out so long ago that it slipped my mind. haven't gotten to freewave 3.

good to see nocap's hood dictionary on there, will check out soon. i liked the backend child but it felt like there was another level for him to get to.

jacquees, full of cobras (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 15:25 (six years ago)

rio is another one i forgot to mention, he's a cut above his non-sada detroit peers imo. he is the banality king. "I get excited every time my flip phone ring" lol

jacquees, full of cobras (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 15:27 (six years ago)

He’s from flint !

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 15:40 (six years ago)

damn! he's prob a spartan then, i rescind my praise.

jacquees, full of cobras (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 15:59 (six years ago)

xxxxxpost

brother ali is good! he's finally gone away from the neo soul jazzy live band vibe, evidence produced the whole thing really great beats

xxxps to longneck re: city girls, i'm referring to their many guest spots

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 17:51 (six years ago)

Sure. The album is pretty good too, though!

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Wednesday, 4 December 2019 18:40 (six years ago)

i listened to "act up" again yesterday now that it's been a while since it was saturating the airwaves and it's still fucking great

dyl, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 19:07 (six years ago)

Btw agree about the thug album being underwhelming somehow. The biggest song sounds like a flip of a j cole single lol

the biggest song IS a j cole single

Babyface Ray - MIA Season 2

is this the guy with the bbq sauce

alpine static, Wednesday, 4 December 2019 23:45 (six years ago)

oh man this is crazy, like something that was frozen in carbonite for years then brought back to life:
The Legion - they were down with Dres from Black Sheep, also Showbiz & AG, put out an album that went nowhere back in the early 90s, just put something out this year and I love how they just pick up right where they left off

Blueface, Teejayx6, Goonew and others — rhyming brazenly ahead of the beat, pushing hard into the unknowable future.

lol deej the next sentence in the article is "As fresh as they sound, they’re not the first. Back in the ’90s, E-40, Suga Free and Silkk the Shocker each found new ways to melt the clock, cramming their lines with lumps of molten syllables, reminding us how mouth-music can loosen our sense of temporality."

This stuff is even more annoying, like ppl comparing Blueface to suga free to show off their rap history chops instead of just pointing to what immediately predated these guys ... like those old head radio djs saying tekashi sounds like onyx when he told them he was inspired by rondonumbanine

ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Monday, 16 December 2019 22:10 (six years ago)

yeah it's pretty disingenuous, like I dunno he does tend to stick around with a hit every couple of years so they've probably heard or liked and E-40 song but if i were betting $100 of my own money i would not bet that they have even heard of suga free or silkk the shocker, but yeah i doubt 40 is an influence
