Lovely to see Bad Debt get a mention, albeit it's the very essence of a minor record, swamped by the very notion of what's around it and the notion of a decade list of this size.

I think that's a pretty good list in terms of not trying to make critical judgments but just presenting the songs that made a big splash.

Yeah, I like that BB list — it’s a nice mix of personal faves (including unexpectedly recent tracks like Rosalía’s “Malamente”); stuff that’s not my bag but was “important”; and then a few LOL / 🤔 picks like Rebecca Black / “Friday” and Weezer / “Africa.”

Like, including “Let It Go” and “My Shot” (among some of those other picks) seems genuinely smart.

this article maybe focuses a little too much on some dumb twitter beef penthouse started but does detail its rightward shift under barber-way (though it doesn't explicitly attribute it to her, she's been in charge since 2017)

there's some pretty damning stuff in that twitter thread too (publishing noted white nationalist mike cernovich is probably the worst)

Just going through some year-by-year lists and one thing I've not seen much mention of is Dysnomia by Dawn of Midi. Great record.

^^^ I'm putting together a "best jazz of the 2010s" piece and had to think really hard about whether to include that record or not. It's fantastic, but ultimately I had to cut it to make space for things that had broader cultural resonance.

Don’t do that. Fuck “cultural resonance”, just list the best albums.
