Also based on the Resident Advisor description of the track I'm pretty sure they played Patrice Baumel's "Roar" - RA says it sounds more like a lawnmower revving up and conking out over and over again, and that is exactly what this massive track was like. In effect it was a bit like "Doppelwhipper" - massive crowd response.

Tim F, Saturday, 23 August 2008 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

That Fred Deaking Nu-Balearica comp looks like it'd be pretty excellent in this style.

this is great!

poortheatre, Saturday, 23 August 2008 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

man, hatchback's forthcoming album, "colors of the sun" (lo) is really making me happy right now...

(and how i wish i still had the vinyl)

20 jfg put up "Don't turn away from my love" by lovelock, who is steve moore from zombi, apparently it comes out on cosmic balearic beats vol.1 in september from eskimo with coyote in flagranti maelstrom and others... looks bonerific

san frandisco, Saturday, 23 August 2008 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

oh damnit i knew i shoulda went to aeroplane!!

haitch, Sunday, 24 August 2008 13:35 (seventeen years ago)

Best part of the Aeroplane set was when one of them dropped Robin S's "Show Me Love" and drew a comparatively muted response from the crowd - the look he gave everyone was of confused astonishment, like "WTF is wrong with you this are best track ever!"

Tim F, Monday, 25 August 2008 05:24 (seventeen years ago)

lol read 'lovelock' as 'pipecock'

deej, Monday, 25 August 2008 08:22 (seventeen years ago)

Tim - 'Roar' is a bit like a whole record built around the chainsaw noise in Mouth To Mouth but kind of... bigger and wider. And no kick drum.

Matt DC, Monday, 25 August 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

So yeah, probably the same track.

Matt DC, Monday, 25 August 2008 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

i read about that 'roar' track. pretty crazy http://www.myspace.com/patricebaumel

jaxon, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

I've tracked down "Roar" in the intervening time. A bit hard to sustain itself on its own but what a great track in the mix. Aeroplane kept on mixing back in and out of the fucked up section for about six minutes or so.

Tim F, Monday, 25 August 2008 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

gosh : moshi moshi get on board the nu-balearic groove by getting AMO1 a gig :

joost666, Tuesday, 26 August 2008 16:43 (seventeen years ago)

finally got around to giving the new WEWW 12"s i bought a listen, love laughing light of plenty track "the rose." it gives you a real feel for how Thom contributed to the MOA project, also it gives off a woolfy vs. projections vibe.

the dr. dunks album is more laid-back balearic, subtle developments over slow grooves with etherial piano dripped over the top and ambient synth add to the atmosphere. lovin it

san frandisco, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

that's for "the phone," love savage introduces a balearic synth-poppy vibe next to grinding guitars and more jarring textures in the middle, both amazing though

san frandisco, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)

you listen to too much music

Jetlag and Everything is Neu are total jams.

mizzell, Thursday, 28 August 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)

beta, i pre-ordered them from phonica a few days before they came out. i think they sold out that day and piccadilly sold out even sooner. discogs has them selling, but for mucho $$$$

san frandisco, Thursday, 28 August 2008 16:26 (seventeen years ago)

Ha ha "Everything Is Neu". Still waiting for a band to call themselves "Neu Order".

Meanwhile I got the Fred Deakin mix - it is an neverending cup of overflowing goodness. Really nails that sense of floating equilibrium that Peter Visti gets on his best mixes - total dancing in zero gravity material.

Tim F, Thursday, 28 August 2008 22:30 (seventeen years ago)

what is this music?

plaidmusic has the blunted-est amo1 remix of a track from the kuniyuki takahashi album

max, Monday, 1 September 2008 23:14 (seventeen years ago)

highly recommended

max, Monday, 1 September 2008 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream

I didn't expect to like this, owing to it being an Australian super-group of sorts, and I disapprove of that sort of thing on principle (although I've never really had anything against Sleepy Jackson and always liked Pnau) - but this is very pretty!

OTOH I wonder how many times they had to say "MGMT! MGMT!" in order to get the whole thing bankrolled.

Tim F, Sunday, 14 September 2008 14:13 (seventeen years ago)

just tracked down the second track on that visti 24:hours mix! frankie valentine - "zumbi" (henrik schwarz dub)

donna rouge, Saturday, 20 September 2008 22:59 (seventeen years ago)

uh, whoops, i lied: the isoul8 remix, not the h. schwarz dub

donna rouge, Sunday, 21 September 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

^^ lol was about to revive thread to talk about this, esp. the homerun track which is a STUNNER (you can hear it unmixed at their myspace, doesn't seem to be an actual 12" out yet: http://www.myspace.com/homerunlaurent)

Yea I'm digging that one too, more than the Deakin one in fact

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

actually i wish that comp was released unmixed.

the mixing isnt anything special and about 1/3 of the tracks are mad boring.

♪☺♫☻ (gr8080), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 12:24 (seventeen years ago)

are you guys talking about Cosmic Balearic Beats? the whole thing just came out as 3 seperately-released, unmixed 12"s...
i'm way into the Coyote & Maelstrom tracks...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 18:04 (seventeen years ago)

There was a mix cd (done by Skinny Joey) released as well... http://www.discogs.com/release/1411450. There are some notable differences between the cd and vinyl releases, for instance I purchased Vol. 3 and was treated to a Brendan Moeller track that wasn't included in the mix.

But I think gr8080 was referring to the Deakin comp (Nu-Balearica on Ministry of Sound) which seemed to choose dull tracks in favor of a seamless mix. Which of course is boring.

psychgawsple, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 20:22 (seventeen years ago)

gr8080 otm, i think the homerun track really outshines nearly everything else on that mix. STILL haven't heard the deakin mix, tho
