It is weird having to deny ourselves nominating all sorts of extremely heavy/weird avant-indie stuff while the lightest and fluffiest of emo gets a pass

imago, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 21:57 (six years ago)

fluffy emo isnt getting a pass but things like hardcore derived emo, nu metal, trad metal, punk etc tend not to ever get recognised in the big ilm general polls so why not give those fans a chance to take part?

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 22:00 (six years ago)

idk there's some fluffy-ish stuff in there ;)

i think i've snuck a bit of metallish indie in there anyway

imago, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 22:01 (six years ago)

there's more to music than people with synths! ;)

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 22:01 (six years ago)

i let you keep thumpermonkey lj so you better quite the false whining as your choices will be the first to go! :P

I've been listening to those Menace Ruine albums lately; man, they are such gems! Not a ton of hook as you'd expect from a medieval folk/drone project but just the sound of the organ and her voice and the way it's recorded, just amazing.

I haven't thought about them in three or four years but I actually think I like them now more than I used to!

The White Stripes - Icky Thump

The World According To.... (Michael B), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 22:43 (six years ago)

The White Stripes - Hello Operator

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 22:56 (six years ago)

Noms list light on depressive black metal. It's a crisp sunny early autumn day. Perfect weather for it...

Nortt - Fra hæld til intet
Lifelover - Mental Central Dialog
Make a Change... Kill Yourself - Chapter Two
Xasthur - Cemetary of Shattered Masks
Xasthur - Prison of MIrrors

beard papa, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 22:58 (six years ago)

Realistically, the Nortt track is probably the only one that I'll vote for, but if you have the patience for the "Make a Change..." song, it really evolves into something beautiful. The whole album is worth checking out.

beard papa, Tuesday, 29 October 2019 23:00 (six years ago)

I like what Xasthur I've heard

The World According To.... (Michael B), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 23:02 (six years ago)

I dont think much/any metalcore has been nommed (except hydrahead/deathwish inc stuff that is more the old meaning of the genre, not the actual metalcore that dominated the metal mainstream in the 00s)

If there's any fans of that stuff around please feel free to nominate/playlist it/vote for it

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 23:45 (six years ago)

and, yes, screamo is allowed too

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 29 October 2019 23:46 (six years ago)

and if you dont nominate it nobody can vote for it so please nominate your fave songs and share them to the Collaborative Spotify playlist so others can enjoy them.

but please check the Nominations Spreadsheet first so you don't nominate something there already.

Also, this playlist impossible - I'm about three hours in and I've saved like everything so far

Haha, I look forward! You've saved me a couple of nominations already in Melt-Banana and Lightning Bolt. I had totally forgotten about Pretty Girls Make Graves too, so I appreciate the reminder.

My favourite finds so far have been the Japanese 'Ghost', Nadja, and Liquidardo Celuloide.

I love Khanate and am listening to a lot of it right now, trying to pick out favorites. It's been a long time since I dug into their stuff. It holds up.

beard papa, Wednesday, 30 October 2019 17:06 (six years ago)

thx for nomming an al-namrood track tt - i had a few i was considering but couldn't really settle on one so thx for taking the decision out of my hands :p

Mordy, Wednesday, 30 October 2019 17:08 (six years ago)

No problem - it was either going to be that or Xenophobia off the latest album. I love not being able to comprehend the source of half the sounds in their songs. Thanks to you for nominating the best Thrice track!

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 30 October 2019 19:16 (six years ago)

We are just over 1000 nominated tracks

I don't suppose I could get away with nominating Autechre?

Antonym Scalia (Leee), Thursday, 31 October 2019 00:33 (six years ago)

that would open floodgates that should not be opened imo

imago, Thursday, 31 October 2019 08:40 (six years ago)

NOT EVEN GANTZ GRAF

imago, Thursday, 31 October 2019 08:40 (six years ago)

Everyone forgot Jute Gyte's two most pop (and also best) tracks:

Jute Gyte - The Central Fires of Secret Memory
Jute Gyte - The Hopelessness of Passing Time and the Melancholy of Unalterable Past Events

tangenttangent, Thursday, 31 October 2019 08:57 (six years ago)

The first got me into Jute Gyte and remains my very favourite. The second is basically shoegaze.

tangenttangent, Thursday, 31 October 2019 08:58 (six years ago)

I promise I will try to fit every nominated JG track on my ballot as penance

the oxford book of chaos (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 31 October 2019 11:38 (six years ago)

imago, Thursday, 31 October 2019 11:52 (six years ago)

The So So Glos - Diss Town

the oxford book of chaos (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 31 October 2019 12:37 (six years ago)

I've always thought Autechre's Recury would make a great doom metal cover.

beard papa, Thursday, 31 October 2019 15:54 (six years ago)

hah I think Autechre would be pushing it even by ILM standards.

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 31 October 2019 16:31 (six years ago)

Autechre themselves would probably be insulted by it..

beard papa, Thursday, 31 October 2019 21:15 (six years ago)

Ooh, just hit my first bit discovery on this spotify playlist: Trees Of Eternity - this is right up my alley.

Siegbran, Friday, 1 November 2019 10:03 (six years ago)

Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 2 November 2019 00:13 (six years ago)

I am -- kind of wondering if the noisy surf rock revival (Raveonettes, Dum Dum Girls, Best Coast) would qualify?

Antonym Scalia (Leee), Saturday, 2 November 2019 00:22 (six years ago)

no
