Has anyone else tried the Weatherday album? Strong Brave Little Abacus vibes, but much faster and brighter. It takes roughly two seconds to begin digging the album a lot, and although it doesn't sustain that heart-in-stomach feeling all the way through, there are some insane highs.

good question. haven't listened to the full album yet, but the singles were all excellent.

i'm obsessed with the album. it gives me goosebumps.

i thought Plastic Cough was OK, but this one is a huge leap forward (pardon the cliche)

I hesitate to make the comparison but it makes me think of a slightly more extroverted/rockin' Big Thief

No, me neither. I think he was quite self aware about how little people seemed to respond to them. It just seemed a very personal mission. The venue tonight is a Catholic Church, which is cool! Aaw Mordy if me and LJ ever come to the US we’ll try to time it with a Dashboard gig.

is it a small venue bc he doesn't have such a big following in uk or a big church? when he plays philly/jersey/ny area he always sells out moderate sized venues (sold out two nights in philly during this most recent tour)

Yeah, this is good. Is "Midwest Emo" really a genre? That's how RYM labels this, though apparently the band is from DC?

yeah it's a common enough term. the origin of it is that the 90s jangly/mathy second-wave emo scene was most prominent in the us midwest.

after a few more listens i kinda think somewhere city is a modern classic

I've listened a bunch - it's grown off me a tiny bit just because the vocals and lyrics seem a little undistinguished but they're clearly a hell of a band, I love the video game music influence
