I'm not especially drawn to their stuff in general but I'm feeling this b*nger at the moment.

Ha I was listening on YouTube and iTunes at the same time and thought that beat went all wonky at the end.

Nice to see that Guidance are putting out three compilations of Callisto (aka Dana Kelly) material. He produced some subterranean deep house records in the 90's. Sadly passed away in 2013.

That’s fantastic news! I’ve almost considered paying the absurd prices his Nether World ep goes for, and have often hoped for a reissue - if only as a proper tribute.

Love the Callisto records but don't miss out on DKMA

Present your arguments for or against why this should be inducted into the deep house canon:

Jellybean feat Steven Dante - The Real Thing (Fun "House" Dub)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDnv6e7NLd0

The bassline is so solid, and the vocals ooze power as well. There seems to be a lack of 808 though.

'Jellybean' is one of those producers who disappoints me overall because I found his strongest production early on then later realized there wasn't much else like it. With 'Jellybean' I'm talking of course about his work on Madonna's 'Holiday' but C&C Music Factory would be another good example, their only real masterpiece that I've found is that one Grace Jones garage remix.

viborg, Monday, 9 December 2019 05:49 (six years ago)

Full artist name is John 'Jellybean' Benitez.

viborg, Monday, 9 December 2019 05:51 (six years ago)

IMO this is the C & C music factory masterpiece

Right, that's not bad. A little flimsy for my deep house preferences but it's not bad. I prefer that vocal to the Aretha remake. Here's the Grace Jones garage remix (apologies if I've posted it here before, I'm kind of partial to it):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQmhjklXgu4

Just the intro alone is worthy of a full DJ mix built around it.

viborg, Monday, 9 December 2019 23:26 (six years ago)

Full-on garage house from '89 no less.

viborg, Monday, 9 December 2019 23:26 (six years ago)

Can't remember if I posted this a while ago, but when I try to load this thread it crashes the tab. Here are a couple of my favorite records ever that I couldn't find anywhere online, so I digitized them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El7Kety_uh0
Rough Diamond - Singles Bar
This is a shameless rip of an Air tune, but it bumps.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_ebQCg8NFo
Ikko - Night in Blue
This song just builds and builds. I love the clanging piano chords and the silky drop in the middle.
