haven't read it yet but Jayson's a very good writer so I recommend you just read it yourself.

the thing i'm most annoyed by is that the design and illustration work around this decade-end package is just horrible

None of these scenarios would have been thinkable for indie rock bands of previous generations.

Shhh, don't talk about things that happened before Pitchfork existed. It upsets them.

I did a whole listicle about this in 2011 with 37 items on it

it's easier for me to now whenever a millennial or younger makes some big statement about music or movies online I just add "....since 2005" to the statement
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 17 October 2019 19:47 (four years ago) link
the quality of contemporary music has been on a steady decline since 2005.

i think of 2005 as a nadir of all culture actually
― flopson, Thursday, 17 October 2019 21:57 (four years ago) link
it was pretty rough. indie had yet to get all wohhhhhh'd out. but man it was in the mail.
― maffew12, Thursday, 17 October 2019 23:55 (four years ago) link
2005 was a very good year for me but that's mostly when i stopped listening to indie so
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 17 October 2019 23:58 (four years ago) link
it helped me branching out more. thank you 2005!

show of hands, who thinks Pitchfork would've reviewed the new Muffs album if it came out 3 weeks ago?
― alpine static, Friday, 18 October 2019 16:06 (four years ago) link
They reviewed the 2014 album and, for a similar example, Veruca Salt's Ghost Notes. Those are both from 4+ years ago, of course.
― ☮ (peace, man), Friday, 18 October 2019 17:03 (four years ago) link
Surprised they reviewed the 2014 album. (I should've checked.) Maybe I'm wrong! Fair enough.
― alpine static, Friday, 18 October 2019 17:16 (four years ago) link
Had the same thought briefly flash through my head, but then I saw they also reviewed the new Third Eye Blind so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

he's a rapper like Puffy or Dr. Dre, also I'm assuming a big change in the perception is changes in who is ghostwriting for him
He's much better than those 2. I'm basing this solely on his freestyle in that Ice T doc film.

surprised to not see something here about me being dumb (when reviewing my edit, I reviewed the final version from the google doc and not the CMS, because I was on mobile and have the app; the version in the google doc was fine, but the CMS version introduced a very obvious error that upset the artist, and that I feel awful about)

if it makes you feel better we could jeer at you a bit
― j., Friday, 18 October 2019 19:40 (four years ago) link
I don't even know if the artist was actually upset
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 18 October 2019 19:52 (four years ago) link
she certainly invited her fans to pile on
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 18 October 2019 19:54 (four years ago) link
she didn't

― Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 18 October 2019 20:02 (four years ago) link
if she invited her fans to pile on they did a shitty job of that, that's not why I feel awful, I feel awful about its existence, that I could have prevented, had I done something differently
― like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 18 October 2019 20:02 (four years ago) link
(by "a shitty job" I mean they didn't; I only found out about it late in the afternoon)

just a typo, right?

These things happen, k, especially to overworked writers
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 18 October 2019 20:09 (four years ago) link
more of a mix-up, I assume, to be clear where I am at fault is not in introducing the error but failing to see it before it was too late
― like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 18 October 2019 20:14 (four years ago) link
You’re not at fault at all, I understand how you feel with it being under your byline, but I see the editor took responsibility / apologized, seems like it’s all good
― drunk on hot toddies (morrisp), Friday, 18 October 2019 20:18 (four years ago) link

― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 18 October 2019 20:44 (four years ago) link
actually, I take that back, I don't think the artist tweeted about it at all (or else deleted it), people had just atted them in

wait, no, she did

it is irksome to be misnamed in print, but on the other hand it's a small understandable mistake of the sort that happens all the time and it was fixed immediately, so only an egomaniacal monster would care more than a minute. there aren't any egomaniacal monsters out there on music industry twitter are there??!?

Was struck by the contrast btw this observation in today’s Go-Gos review:
As the Los Angeles punk scene emerged in the late 1970s, it was inclusive, diverse, and pioneered by marginalized voices.
The song is a reminder, in a culture that rhapsodizes the early days of punk, exactly how limited its considerations of the most marginalized people were, how narrow its stage once was and how vast it is becoming.
