all of my posts in here today up until this point were not serious whatsoever

> quality or impactthese lists are only about impact. Quality helped a lot of them with their impact, but it's not in the discussion at this stage, is it?
― maffew12, Wednesday, 16 October 2019 22:16 (six years ago)
sorry I guess that was regarding the Kanye/primo sidebar...
― maffew12, Wednesday, 16 October 2019 22:17 (six years ago)
i still don't get modern vampires being the consensus best vw album, it's their worst - so plodding! - and contra is their best
― ufo, Wednesday, 16 October 2019 22:17 (six years ago)
I get MVOTC now (six years old!), but I like my VW with more rhythmic tumult. Contra owns my heart because of "Giving Up the Gun" and "Diplomat's Son."

contra's the best. i love modern vampires but all the gloom about aging has... aged poorly for me
― american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 October 2019 22:36 (six years ago)
none of you liked the beats on DAYTONA?

loved mvotc when it came out, but i'm coming around to the idea of contra as the best album.

kanye still has at least 75% of his fastball as a producer tbh, even that poopity scoop song hit pretty hard lol
― flopsy bird (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 16 October 2019 22:48 (six years ago)
Contra and Daytona, two albums featuring cover photos against the will of the people (or their estate)/people's things photoed. Part of their impact? Discuss.

could never get into that. Liked Late Registration though.

still think the first VW album is the best, and it is the only one of theirs that I really love
― Dan S, Wednesday, 16 October 2019 23:22 (six years ago)
this is like that time JAY Z went to the GRIZZLY BEAR concert

didn't much help his own though. no idea why he gives himself the worst production
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 17 October 2019 04:08 (six years ago)
Kanye is terrible these days
― brigadier pudding (DJP), Thursday, 17 October 2019 12:51 (six years ago)
And, even at his peak, he was at best a mediocre rapper
he never had much flow so if that's super-important to you then I can understand feeling that way, but in his early days a lot of his raps were funny and really memorable and that more than compensated for the fact that no one's ever going to mistake him for Rakim.
― Evans on Hammond (evol j), Thursday, 17 October 2019 13:14 (six years ago)
can't we just have those memories then

would someone kindly tl;dr this for me:https://pitchfork.com/features/article/2010s-decade-how-indie-rock-went-pop-bon-iver-grimes-james-blake/
― drunk on hot toddies (morrisp), Thursday, 17 October 2019 15:23 (six years ago)
he's a rapper like Puffy or Dr. Dre, also I'm assuming a big change in the perception is changes in who is ghostwriting for himI mean, Cyhi the Prince doesn't stick around GOOD music because he moves unitsused to be Consequence and Rhymefest
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 17 October 2019 15:28 (six years ago)
yeah, consequence and rhymefest can actually write, and judging by the bars cyhi gives himself...he can't

haven't read it yet but Jayson's a very good writer so I recommend you just read it yourself.

the thing i'm most annoyed by is that the design and illustration work around this decade-end package is just horrible
― american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 17 October 2019 16:17 (six years ago)
yeah what's the deal? it's supposed to look like iphone icons?
― flopson, Thursday, 17 October 2019 16:32 (six years ago)

None of these scenarios would have been thinkable for indie rock bands of previous generations.

Shhh, don't talk about things that happened before Pitchfork existed. It upsets them.

I did a whole listicle about this in 2011 with 37 items on it

it's easier for me to now whenever a millennial or younger makes some big statement about music or movies online I just add "....since 2005" to the statement
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 17 October 2019 19:47 (six years ago)
the quality of contemporary music has been on a steady decline since 2005.
....since 2005
― Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Thursday, 17 October 2019 20:19 (six years ago)
i think of 2005 as a nadir of all culture actually
― flopson, Thursday, 17 October 2019 21:57 (six years ago)
it was pretty rough. indie had yet to get all wohhhhhh'd out. but man it was in the mail.
― maffew12, Thursday, 17 October 2019 23:55 (six years ago)
2005 was a very good year for me but that's mostly when i stopped listening to indie so
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 17 October 2019 23:58 (six years ago)
it helped me branching out more. thank you 2005!

― Evan, Friday, 18 October 2019 15:55 (six years ago)
show of hands, who thinks Pitchfork would've reviewed the new Muffs album if it came out 3 weeks ago?
― alpine static, Friday, 18 October 2019 16:06 (six years ago)
They reviewed the 2014 album and, for a similar example, Veruca Salt's Ghost Notes. Those are both from 4+ years ago, of course.
― ☮ (peace, man), Friday, 18 October 2019 17:03 (six years ago)
Surprised they reviewed the 2014 album. (I should've checked.) Maybe I'm wrong! Fair enough.
