there are 5-6 excellent tunes on blonde, but there are also several that are just very very bad (nikes, futura free, all the spoken word interludes)

i recently came around on blonde and i think it has a lot of good tunes, it just serves them up on weird thermals or through distorted drumless vortexes or with just some chill guitar shimmering behind it. i need to revisit channel orange, which has never made me feel much of anything but who knows now. two frank albums in the top ten is a bit much but i accept that he won and kaleidoscope dream and blackSUMMERS'night lost or whatever lol

"nikes" is great. "weed crumbles into glitter.... rain.... glitter" is one of the best moments on the record

i just hate the melody, and the helium makes it worse.

but dawn richard is not on this list at all and i'd rank blackheart over blonde in terms of abstract r&b masterpieces where the songs flow into each other

the songs absolutely do not flow into each other on blonde and that's a real problem with it

dawn richard is awesome but a bit too weird for these basics

i def agree that body talk is wildly overrated, its placement here is the "robyn fans sing 'dancing on my own' on subway platform" of decade lists

I actually thought Miguel and Maxwell would break through in a way impossible to conceive in 2012, but I guess they lack a "narrative."

My post wasn't intended as an indictment of Pitchfork, just maybe a reflection of how I've become a bit alienated from some of the prevailing critical orthodoxy that my tastes once felt more aligned with.

But I turned 40 this year, so I get it.

I never realised until now how far Ariel Pink had fallen from grace in P4K's eyes. I would've assumed Before Today would at least place. That record is still a damn front to back classic.

Right now the most surprising inclusion to see on here is Alabama Shakes.

probably the biggest surprise for me is The Pinkprint because my memory of the general reception of every Nicki Minaj album has been "this is a bit underwhelming"

Also Ariel Pink's "Round and Round" did place at #31 on the tracks list. So he's not completely forgotten.

One of my favorite inclusions, tbh. That album is excellent

if dj rashad (who was obviously great) was still alive he wouldn't have crashed that top twenty, but his death gives just enough discourse for him to nose in amongst the royals

i do not understand any ldr record that is not ultraviolence or honeymoon and i’m still a little baffled that the discourse around the new one insists i should think she’s a good lyricist. she isn’t

ariel pink's stock has gone way down after how terrible and obnoxious he was around the time of his last album. that album was his best in a long time though, except for him saying tr*nny on it which combined with his other antics make me never want to listen to him again really

its kinda weird that ldr has so instantly gone from critically underrated to overrated to this degree but i like the album well enough that i'm not really bothered

I read an essay about it in Frieze. They were pretty enamoured of her wry yet gloomy take on Americana, especially—the writer said—her understanding that Anerica isn’t ending, but already over. From that it seemed like it was more of a Pop Art homage thing tailor made for people who tead Frieze more than it was an album made for music listeners.

However, I haven’t listened to it yet. I will though—I mostly like her work.
