mixcloud app (via the nts app) has always been super clunky, it flakes out all the time

some of my favorite hosts
siren -adventurous and fun dance music, and a reminder that trance is cool again which i am pleased about because i've always loved trancegost zvuk - weird electronic music exclusively from former soviet republicsdoing time for airy laid back balaeric, reggae, soft rockradio jiro for similar vibesbumpin on sunset for similar vibes donna leake, the best jazz fusion, nts jazz shows in general are fucking awesomemoxie for the house musiccircuits for the house musiconra's been playing a lot of boogie and gfunk latelyautotune the world's cumbia episodes made me listen to cumbia for a month, the only substantial non-nts listening i did this summerrhythm connection plays all KINDS of good dance music but the DJyayo - honestly i can't remember what yayo plays but i feel like i am always favoriting their episodesking britt for wild synth ambient kosmiche electronicfelix hall for dancehallrhythm section w/ bradley zero always has good music of all kinds but christ he needs to shut the fuck up, one of those djs who can't just let a track play but has to interrupt constantly. you think he's done when he gives a single shoutout or a track name -- he'll turn the volume back up ---then he turns it back down to give another shoutout -- volume up and i tink I AM FREE TO HEAR THIS AMAZING TRACK but nope here is another shoutout, then another, then a story about how he found that piece of wax at the corner shop back in the day, meanwhile the track is three minutes in and you give up

cdmx tapes (mexico city label naafi) is one of the most exhilarating & fun shows on nts imo https://www.nts.live/shows/naafi

If anyone’s interested in the history of jungle, fabio and grooverider on charlie bones’ show today was a hugely entertaining

would prefer if they did a pledge drive, but signed up anyway
― lukas, Thursday, 2 July 2020 20:54 (five years ago)
i think a pledge drive is something most people in the UK / Europe are not very familiar with.
― stirmonster, Thursday, 2 July 2020 22:38 (five years ago)
I just love the idea of NTS residents standing by to take my call, though
― lukas, Thursday, 2 July 2020 22:41 (five years ago)
the funding of nts has always been a mystery to me! will be happy to sign up to this though - probably listen to about 60-70 hours of nts per month, so it's the least i could do
― Boris the Spreader (NickB), Thursday, 2 July 2020 22:45 (five years ago)
(the joke being that public radio stations in the US do these annual pledge drives for donations where they spend what seems like half of air time asking you to call to donate, with coffee mugs and symphony tickets to entice you - it feels like you've wandered into a school selling baked goods for the girls volleyball team)
― lukas, Thursday, 2 July 2020 22:50 (five years ago)
I am all for the pledge drive as i've always felt it is something i've missed out on.
haruomi hosono taking calls would be most excellent.

mainly happened through events & event sponsorships, which is now obviously not possible
― ILX’s bad boy (D-40), Sunday, 5 July 2020 06:32 (five years ago)
my pledge drive thing wasn't totally a joke - they really should be much more intrusive asking for $/£/€/¥
― lukas, Sunday, 5 July 2020 23:26 (five years ago)
(or rather, it was a joke, but I realized an opportunity to make myself seem more clever than I am)
― lukas, Sunday, 5 July 2020 23:43 (five years ago)
Anyone else having problems with the app on android? Works fine listening live, but if I'm catching up on an old show, it keeps cutting out if I have the app running in the background. Am assuming it's because it's streaming from mixcloud and mixcloud seems to be generally quite shit. Or maybe it's my phone?
― kites aren't fun (NickB), Friday, 2 October 2020 16:54 (five years ago)
Also hi to anyone who hangs out in the chat, I seem to spend more time talking gibberish on that these days than I do on ILX
― kites aren't fun (NickB), Friday, 2 October 2020 16:57 (five years ago)
I only do that when I know the dj, but it's pretty fun when I can actually listen live (ie when the UK time zone lines up with when I'm working during the day).
― change display name (Jordan), Friday, 2 October 2020 17:10 (five years ago)
Is the chat generally very active? I think I've only checked it out on the very rare occasion I've been up in time to listen to Charlie Bones, and it has been quite active then.
― stirmonster, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:09 (five years ago)
always busy in the mornings, but uk afternoons can be pretty hectic too for certain shows - goes mad during moxie but also for ruf dug, eclair fifi, shanti celeste, flo... it's a dead zone during the evening though i think
― kites aren't fun (NickB), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:17 (five years ago)
coolio!
― stirmonster, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:19 (five years ago)
loving Raga Vibrations but not providing a tracklist reeks of "hey listen to this exotic music from the mysterious Orient"
― lukas, Tuesday, 20 October 2020 22:27 (five years ago)
that said this set has really made my day
― lukas, Tuesday, 20 October 2020 23:22 (five years ago)
For some reason I have not been taking advantage of NTS much during this time, aside from a couple shows by friends that I always catch up on. Maybe because the endless abyss of music it represents is not psychologically helpful at present. But I'm enjoying the radio today.
Any other favorite shows recently?

Is it to possible to download NTS shows/mixes on whatever device you're using? Would like to put some on my old-ass ipod. I'm not the brightest when it comes to stuff like this! Thanks
― JackMyFruit, Monday, 8 February 2021 22:05 (five years ago)
I think you'd have to find it on mixcloud and use a downloader?
― change display name (Jordan), Monday, 8 February 2021 22:09 (five years ago)
in case NTS wasn't too much, this station out of Lyon/Paris/Brusells has a similar range and presentation of its archives that makes it easy to find great stuff:https://lyl.live/
found it via the Actual Grammar show, which is Joe Gilmore (Superpang) & Paul Emery

https://www.nts.live/shows/uk-garage-evolutions
NTS tracks the history of UK Garage via six shows consisting of mixes and interviews with some pivotal figures, all UK Garage is excellent anyway but but these are particularly so.
