and make up hasn't aged real well for me, but they really fucking killed live

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

I could've swore that X-Files soundtrack had a Ween song, too.

nickalicious, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

make up records have aged terribly but yeah they were good live

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

never getting to see NOU live goes on the regrets list

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

I saw The Makeup about 2 years ago in the tiniest little place, like 40 capacity. It was the loudest show they ever had there.

nickalicious, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

The Make-Up toured two years ago?!

da croupier, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

I looked up the video for "New Noise" on youtube a while back, and the comments were full of kids going "who are these fags and why are they totally ripping off [insert emo act from 2004]."

They were very adamant that Refused were homosexuals, and that that was why they wore sweaters.

nabisco, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

i'd agree with that

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

i think i should go to a nu-emo show this weekend

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

the X-Files TV soundtrack didn't have a Ween song but the X-Files movie soundtrack did

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

strongo i wouldn't even know where to go for a nu-emo show round here, do you? does the sidebar book emo bands or would it be someone's living room out in the county?

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

fletchers?

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

listening to the myspace stream of the new Dinosaur Jr. album is pretty much the perfect soundtrack for this thread

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

i just kind of assume everything they book that's a band whose name i dont recognize is emo

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

haha wait did i miss the MCR show at merriweather??

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

OMG IT'S TONIGHT

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:32 (nineteen years ago)

yessssss take camera plz

gff, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

there is sadly no way i can get to merriweather tonight

also, my sister is coming to visit and she would kill me if i took her to mcr show

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

Okay that Makeup show might have been anywhere from 2-5 years ago, which was the span of time that venue was open. My memories of those years interestingly enough all sort of blend together.

nickalicious, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

i've always wanted to post this, but didn't have a place...anyway these guys, Quietdrive, are from Mpls but have gotten kinda bit in nu-emo circles...they are signed to Sony now...

but yeah if you ever wanted to hear the inevitable emo cover of "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper, it's the first song on their myspace:

Quietdrive

M@tt He1ges0n, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

instead i am taking her to noise show in loft

uh

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

my little brother went to see my chemical romance last month i think? i dont want to throw out any big spoilers but the singer starts the show by getting rolled out in a hospital bed onto the stage like in the video

A B C, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

hey anthony they're playing state college on sunday if you feel like going home for the weekend

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

eh, who wants to see MCR play all of Black Parade + a little of the good old stuff in the encore anyway

I tend to assume that the anonymous local bands at Fletcher's these days are the kinds of hopeless alt rock/nu metal bands that used to play at Hal Daddy's back in the day but your assumption might be closer to the truth

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

Correction to Ultragrrl: MRC = this generation's GnR, if you roll together all of their videos and soundtrack it all with "Don't Cry"

nabisco, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

i wonder if there's an emo underground in baltimore

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

the young, unsigned, and hungry

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

remember y'all

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

When I was a young boy
my father took me into the city
to see a marching band
And he said

Don't you cry tonight
Don't you cry tonight
There's a heaven above you, baby

nabisco, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

pretty much every monday I think about walking down to Fletcher's for 98 Rock's "NOISE IN THE BASEMENT" local showcase. maybe someday i will go and see if there is emo.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

yeah i wonder what those are like

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

straight-up rock bands without enough of a "niche" to play in any of the sub-genre circuits around town maybe

strongohulkington, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, like I said those things make me flash back to the "and now, a band that sounds like Tool...and now, a band that sounds like RHCP" vibe at Hal Daddy's, which i believe was before your time

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

that MMR=albini jawbox article?

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:55 (nineteen years ago)

man that albini article is bringin back the memories

Mr. Que, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

oops, i revived this thread then ignored the consequences.

both husker du and rites of spring are on the chart, but is there a section for "post-hardcore"?

also, thinking about nu emo reminds me of my brother, who heard me play Descendents and the Replacements for him, then got into napster and found about all these pre-2000 emo bands that he went nuts for.Kid Brother Collective out of our hometown of Flint, Appleseed Cast(who get played on the ed schultz show, from time to time, wtf), right in time for the SDRE return.

Oh yeah, and one name that hasn't been mentioned yet, one that's emlematic for the emo return -> BUDDYHEAD.

kingfish, Friday, 27 April 2007 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

they were a label tho right?

JW, Saturday, 28 April 2007 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

JW, Saturday, 28 April 2007 00:50 (nineteen years ago)

I saw them at Warped when "Helena" was big. That's good enough for me.

da croupier, Saturday, 28 April 2007 05:04 (nineteen years ago)

latebloomer, Saturday, 28 April 2007 17:18 (nineteen years ago)
