I wondered why I couldn't find that Sambomaster track. I'll see if the new name is on Spotify...

imago, Tuesday, 10 September 2019 14:25 (six years ago)

Haha, you'll probably not find this one on Spotify, either. My mistake wasn't the title; just that I chose the inferior song.

icy bike chain rain (zchyrs), Tuesday, 10 September 2019 14:44 (six years ago)

It looks like there is a bizarre lullaby music-box version of it on Spotify, but that's not what I'm nominating.

rob, Tuesday, 10 September 2019 23:57 (six years ago)

Great dancehall noms rob.

I decided not to nominate some of my absolute favourites of the era on the grounds that basically no one will know them (e.g. Chico's "Thick & Thin", Assassin's "Want To Be Free" which may as well not exist as far as the internet is concerned).

Tim F, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 00:05 (six years ago)

I don't think "Faded" counts - I was planning to nominate it but Wiki says it was a 1999 release. I'll absolutely vote for it if we consider it eligible

Vinnie, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 00:07 (six years ago)

It was released in Canada in 1999 and everywhere else in 2000.

Tim F, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 00:10 (six years ago)

And it was on an album, that even in Canada wasn't released till Febraury 2000. I would say it's close enough to count.

MarkoP, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 00:52 (six years ago)

I certainly think of it as an 00's song so I'm all for it

Vinnie, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 01:49 (six years ago)

I feel like "Big Pimpin" is in many "Best of 90s" and "Best of 00s" lists just based on whatever mood the list maker is feeling that day. No one knows what decade this song is from.

"faded" wasn't a hit in the states until fall of 2000

dyl, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 02:40 (six years ago)

forgot so many tracks. and there's a distinct lack of Richard X/Alan Braxe/Jacques Lu Cont remixes nommed (the TWD ones listed so far are my faves though!)

Roz, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 03:14 (six years ago)

I feel like "Big Pimpin" is in many "Best of 90s" and "Best of 00s" lists just based on whatever mood the list maker is feeling that day. No one knows what decade this song is from.

wiki says the album came out three days before Y2K, and the single was released April 2000, which would make it more 00s.

I have a distinct memory of it playing at a summer barbecue in 2003 too lol.

I'll probably be the only one voting for it but there is a whole LP from 2003 of that nasty sound! https://www.discogs.com/Tetuzi-Akiyama-Dont-Forget-To-Boogie/release/538843

I got checked by saer upthread on Richard Wolfsdorf, my error, scratch that please and replace with thank you

octobeard, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 18:54 (six years ago)

Kinda scared with only four days left that there are so many classic albums left un-nominated... here's my favorites from the era - could have easily added another 20.

octobeard, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 18:56 (six years ago)

same here

sleeve, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 19:42 (six years ago)

another 20 you say

imago, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 19:48 (six years ago)

nah, nobody's going to vote for anything I nominated anyway and idk why I'm even bothering, 20 more won't help

sleeve, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 19:51 (six years ago)

that certainly isn't true

imago, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 19:51 (six years ago)

ya probably want to wait for the results before making that assumption :)

I'm really just here to join you in the exaltation of Blueberry Boat, after that my work will be done

sleeve, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 19:53 (six years ago)

I guess somebody besides imago and I might vote for Ape Of Naples, maybe

sleeve, Wednesday, 11 September 2019 19:53 (six years ago)
