In recent months I have been dealing with a bizarre situation with Amanda Palmer. I blocked her years ago, I think we had a spat about that tour where she offered to pay musicians in hugs and beer. She recently became fixated by this and asked her 1m fans to find out why I had.

so, this sucked. i was about to do a huge tour of britain and ireland - one of the most extensive UK-centered tours of my career, including four hard-to-sell-out shows in london. losing this press ally was going to be a major pain in the ass.

Good god.

In positive news, glancing through recent photos of her, she seems to have switched to a natural eyebrow look. Not sure how recent that is, but it's a major improvement. Hate to talk about a woman performer's appearance rather than her music, but those eyebrows were like a 1990s edgy teen haircut phase carried on for the better part of two decades.

Reading other people’s opinions of Amanda Palmer reminds me of the parable of the blind men and the elephant. One person opens Amanda’s Twitter account and says, “Ah, Amanda Palmer is a narcissist.” Another reads her book The Art of Asking and says, “Ah, she is a philosopher.” A third and a fourth listen to her music; one says “Ah, she is a healer,” and the other, “Ah, she is a bigot.” And Amanda, the elephant at the center of it all, marches on and trumpets her opinions to the sky.

I find that people who were huge TMBG or Residents fans also are huge into Amanda Palmer. It's weird and disappointing.

what sucks too is she's using her alliance w/marginalized voices as a way to turn herself more into the center of attention, you get the sense that if any one of them ever caught the spotlight for too long while she was in the vicinity she'd get vv testy about it.

well, then they would be marginalizing her voice by actually being visible in her project, right?

I know of many knitters and designers who like her. The same ones also write a lot about being fairly compensated for their work designing and/or teaching. I doubt any of them would accept being paid in beer and hugs!

I want to say the Dresden Dolls were not terrible? At least I am pretty sure I saw them perform at least once and they were not terrible.
