I agree the bridge sucks, which is funny because I heard T.Swift say in a recent interview(?) that "Lover" is/might be her favorite song she's ever written, and that she loves writing good bridges and she was really proud of the bridge on this one.

She sounds like Madonna in 2001 hitting a pub for the first time. The song is in part about being a tourist but lol.

it's really bad

it's too soon for declarations, but I'll make one: this album has a lot of tired-ass shit on it.

on first listen this has its moments ("cruel summer" was the standout) but it's mostly so so bland. it's not as dire as "me!" suggested at least but is pretty in line with how dull the "you need to calm down" verses are.

"Cruel Summer" and "London Boy" and I was almost thinking this was a tribute to the Terry Hall/Belinda Carlisle romance somehow in a roundabout way. I would think that.

"if i was a man / then i'd be the man" ... not really her best writing...

"If I Were a Boy" it ain't.

I played 5-6 tracks on the drive home tonight. I really dug the spunky, poper-pop/new wave style in "Paper Rings," it easily stood out. The rest kinda blended together.

I really want to read more about what Big Machine was offering Taylor to stay, and why she decided to leave. It is weird that Borchetta would be highly disclosive about so many little aspects of closing this merger, but not specific about what Big Machine was offering Taylor to stay. I think this is a nice album, though could probably have been pared by a few tracks.

I'm only up to "Death by a Thousand Cuts" and I already feel like I've been listening to this album for several hours.

That said, none of these songs are unpleasant (though "London Boy" is indeed clunky bit of lyric writing).
