The song is just ok, but it's great to hear her voice again. Also digging the quasi-MBV whammy guitar on the chorus

I guess it makes sense that this already sounds so dated considering we've been waiting for Masochism since 2015. I suspect this song's been sitting around either finished or unfinished for as long as 8 years.

I really like this, not sure it was worth waiting a decade for but I love the bending guitars in the chorus and her voice sounds great.

It’s too bad this stuff couldn’t have just come out as an album as opposed to drop by drop. (There are probably extenuating circumstances for why, of course.) As a mass of tunes, there would be a different feel to things.

As it happens, listening to NTRT last weekend, first time in years, I thought, this is surely one of the decade's most powerful albums, no? One of the more searing album-long inquiries into industry exploitation.

i like the song tho! it's no revelation but it's solid. btw "downhill lullaby" was great in its way and would probably be viewed more favorably if it had actually been followed with the album instead of being some random one-off thing

I never became a music writer for a reason, but even I would never use the phrases "pretty bland" or "rock-tinged." I guess everyone's got to start somewhere, and that's what blogspot used to be for. Is there nowhere else to practice writing now before Pitchfork hires you?

Anyway, agree with the overall assertion that it's not a great single, but whew that review.

It’s a great single imho. People are confused because it’s retro or whatever. But she clearly cares about this stuff—the purpose of the surfaces—to a greater degree than most. Lyrics are great

I think it's great, and it made more of an impression than "Downhill Lullaby" (which I did like, but I'm sure I will appreciate more in album context if that ever happens).
