yesterday i purchased:

jon hassell: power spot (so excellent)
toy love: live at the gluepot, 1980 (only listened to half, but excellent so far. early kiwi punk, members later going on to form bats/tall dwarfs
tangerine dream: zeit (a top 40 ilx ambient album of all time, you bet your ass it's good. i snagged a very, very clean original copy too)
david crosby: if i could only remember my name (if i could only remember i already had a copy of this, dammit)

(ps brimstead i am loving this komachi. Sento [Pt.II] is hitting the spot)

overall i would give my record shopping experience a 9.7

Karl Malone, Monday, 15 July 2019 01:13 (six years ago)

this komachi is reminding me of jon hassell, actually, and of course that is the highest compliment

Karl Malone, Monday, 15 July 2019 01:15 (six years ago)

oh wait, it's not sold out! only the super limited 50 copy version was sold out. thanks for the head's up!

Karl Malone, Monday, 15 July 2019 01:22 (six years ago)

lol at "THIS KOMACHI". it's by Meitei. please forgive me, i am very tired

Karl Malone, Monday, 15 July 2019 01:24 (six years ago)

first amon duul (ii) i heard was a borrowed copy of the live in london lp and remember my main impression at the time was the heavy ja vibes it gave off (a good thing!)

didn't know about the live toy love release. think the story goes that their studio lp was recorded with a not particularly sympathetic technical crew on a trip to australia with dire results... recently had some non-music related correspondence with chr!s kn0x, mostly communicating via selfies on his part o_O

Their last two records are kinda jazzy compared to the doom and gloom of the first two.

am i searching like an idiot, or have the words "emily sprague" never been typed on ilx? what is up ilm firsts thread of the future

i really love mount vision (especially the "piano" tunes, but it's all good) and water memory, and her new material (the 41 minute "new" on a split with lightbath on RVNG (https://rvng.bandcamp.com/album/full-new)) is maybe her best yet

a companion series to Ethiopiques. This is a great set with rippling instrumental interplay and various musical influences , some latinate stuff in there as there was across a lot of Africa from the late 50s on.
Somebody mentioned this on a list of great African releases on a different board a couple of months ago and it's on Spotify where i listened to a bit of it before grabbing a copy.

went back to check on this after remembering it as psychedelic guitar driven which I think it is. It seems like they were produced as another band from the ballroom scene before they found their own sound over the next few lps. Still pretty individual.
I think the influence they had on the grunge scene came from this s/t lp and the next lp Bayou Country mainly. & I think those are my 2 favs by them.

Cardinal Fuzz label band. This is a 4 track instrumental lp that remninds me of other rifff heavy bands. Quite enjoyable anyway.
