That was kind of a boring performance.
Note: I used to say i was going to call my next band Biz Cas because of Carrie's performance wardrobe.
Instead of blaming a person I would say blame Carrie's acting career. it was a super strangely successful thing that happened. And I am ALL for people doing many things outside of what they are known for, but yeah sometimes it's still strange.
― Yerac, Monday, 1 July 2019 21:37 (six years ago)
I bring this up because before it seemed more of en equality among three members with maybe Corrine getting more attention. And now it's definitely playing into Carrie's 30 Seconds from Mars.
― Yerac, Monday, 1 July 2019 21:38 (six years ago)
ut keep playing again and i keep missing them
― mark s, Monday, 1 July 2019 21:40 (six years ago)
a tweet from the current jicks drummer:
As someone who’s had to follow @jazzzhand and play her parts (you never replace) all I can say is goooooood f’n luck and invest in a good fan.— Jake W Morris (@drumbschool) July 1, 2019

so is that tonight show performance their last-ever performance with janet? kind of a sad way to go out.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Monday, 1 July 2019 21:40 (six years ago)
Last performance. The tour begins w/a one-off gig September 5th, in Raleigh, before starting for realsies a month later in Spokane.

I would rather just blame Fred Armisen. MARK THESE WORDS.
― Yerac, Monday, 1 July 2019 21:46 (six years ago)
Jesus Christ, WHAT IF FRED IS THE REPLACEMENT!?!?!
― frustration and wonky passion (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 1 July 2019 21:48 (six years ago)
is ringo available?
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Monday, 1 July 2019 21:49 (six years ago)
Maybe Fallon could do SK a solid and lend out Questlove.
― GRETA GABBO (Leee), Monday, 1 July 2019 21:51 (six years ago)
Carrie (and Janet) were awesome in Wild Flag, so I don't blame Carrie's career. I'm happy blaming Fred, though.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 22:09 (six years ago)
xpost Phil's son has been playing drums, they can get him, then.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 22:10 (six years ago)
If Phil Collins’ son gets this job, I’m crying foul! Nepotism sucks.
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 July 2019 22:18 (six years ago)
They could get Phil's son, Ringo's son, Bonham's son, Max Weinbergs son ...
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 22:30 (six years ago)
Rick Nelson's son Jax...
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 22:32 (six years ago)
Nielsen, my bad.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 22:33 (six years ago)
Daxx Nielsen, goddammit!
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 22:34 (six years ago)
Jeff Tweedy's son, etc.
Where are the drumming daughters?
― change display name (Jordan), Monday, 1 July 2019 22:55 (six years ago)
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Stella Mozgawa turned up as their drummer, she's kind of perfect
― change display name (Jordan), Monday, 1 July 2019 22:57 (six years ago)
Or the drummer from Savages
― change display name (Jordan), Monday, 1 July 2019 22:58 (six years ago)
Jordan just posted all of my thoughts, thank you!!
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 July 2019 23:03 (six years ago)
Stella M is the likely I think
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Monday, 1 July 2019 23:05 (six years ago)
Yeah, Stella otm. Wasn't the first SK drummer Aussie, too?
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 1 July 2019 23:21 (six years ago)
Letterman performance:
https://youtu.be/gYAitpi6Dhg
Goes to show how the drummer is essential and what that Fallon performance is missing. She made the right call to leave imho

Yeah Carrie's posturing is so affected imo I can't help but get this vibe too?
― Evan, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 00:11 (six years ago)
Carrie's memoir did not paint the kindest portrait.

Band responds:
We are saddened by Janet’s decision to leave Sleater-Kinney. It has been an incredible privilege to work with such a talented musician and drummer over the course of so many albums, including The Center Won’t Hold.We thank her for joining us on this journey many years ago; we will always cherish our friendship and our time together. We wish Janet all the best as she starts a new chapter in her life.We are so excited for everyone to hear the record, and to see you on the road this fall and beyond.Love,Sleater-Kinney

Bummer
the kindest portrait of what
― mookieproof, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 01:27 (six years ago)
Herself. Which made it a good memoir but also made her seem like someone you'd actively avoid in real life.
― Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 01:43 (six years ago)
Ugh, I just read the Jon Fine book, and tell me about it.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 01:43 (six years ago)
Because he is in the same category?
― Vini C. Riley (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 01:50 (six years ago)
I enjoyed CB's book and didn't get that impression (unlike Kim Gordon's book) though "Carrie's 30 Seconds to Mars" feels painfully otm here
― flappy bird, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 01:53 (six years ago)
the thing with Carrie is that I wonder if anyone who hangs with Armison that much has to be sketchy too
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 02:02 (six years ago)
i feel that. i basically stopped watching portlandia b/c they both started to seem creepy to me.

loooooool i had the same reaction to his book + bonus near-certainty prediction that Jon Fine would treat me weird bc i am a woman in one way or another were we ever to meet
re: carrie, idk what to think about the transition from musician --> comedian ---> musicianhas that happened before?
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 02:15 (six years ago)
Jon Wurster, sort of(?)
― stan by me (morrisp), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 02:26 (six years ago)
I thought her book was ok. I finished it about the time it was announced there was going to be a TV pilot based on it. That sounded odd. But maybe these things get optioned like that just to loosely hang a show around a known figure.

― omar little, Tuesday, 2 July 2019 02:47 (six years ago)
Wurster hasn’t stopped comedy, though maybe he’d only be in two full-time bands if he had a staff writing job Armisen has a dayjob in music when he’s not doing comedy, but he is also still doing comedy

All drummers, huh
― stan by me (morrisp), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 03:37 (six years ago)
“what’s the DEAL with drummers?”

Better than Armisen's entire Comedy For Drummers special.
― Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 04:05 (six years ago)
Chevy Chase drummed for an early line-up of pre-Steely-Dan Steely Dan.
the drummer for '90s Sydney indie band The Fantastic Leslie quit for standup and won the Most Popular TV Personality award yesterday as a game show host (the lead singer / keyboardist went into political satire in print, radio & tv)
More who did the switch back:
Woody Allen never stopped playing jazz when he started standup, but did stop being funny ages ago, if that counts.
Steve Martin didn't have a serious musical career before comedy, but did serious music + comedy early on, then comedy for two decades, then mainly serious music for two decades, and just started performing comedy again alongside his music career two years ago
Just checked and Creed Bratton returned to music after nine years on The Office.
― quelle sprocket damage (sic), Tuesday, 2 July 2019 06:02 (six years ago)
(not that Brownstein ever quit music for comedy, either, so I guess there's no need to be strict!)
