Agreed!

I did an interview with LOFT for the podcast I've been doing lately, thought it would be of interest to people following this thread:

Been hearing a lot from this Oli XL record in recent mixes:
https://blo-om.bandcamp.com/album/rogue-intruder-soul-enhancer

Speaking of, some nice mixes from Air Max '97 and DJ Plead:

It's raw, fits surprisingly well on Hyperdub. Seems like they're getting back in the game and putting on a lot of good younger producers (Loraine James, etc)

Loraine James is incredibly good, had no idea Hyperdub had picked her up until getting promo notification of such

Happy Friday?

New Leonce is great as always:
https://leonce.xyz/album/penetration-testing-ep

Upcoming BFTT ep is great in that hyper-detailed Metrist/Batu/Oli XL style of recent posts:
https://soundcloud.com/djmag/premiere-bftt-ofusc

Not entirely dissimilar vibe on this Lurka ep for Wisdom Teeth:
https://wisdomteethuk.bandcamp.com/album/lurka-stay-lets-together

Distorted/dubbed out edits of Iranian music:
https://astralplanerecordings.bandcamp.com/album/mahur-club

This is of course ridiculously fun & good (Bollywood edits from Manara and basically everyone)

And that BFTT EP on Gobstopper is out and excellent

I've been enjoying stuff by filmmaker (https://filmmaker.bandcamp.com/) lately

I've only listened to two of the six albums released this year, but so far this is all good

full albums are also on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmof5MFXxjc

New Blanck Mass edging too close to the anthemic 1995 Mortal Kombat s/t aesthetic for my taste.

pomenitul, Sunday, 18 August 2019 14:33 (six years ago)

oh man, i feel exactly the opposite but i totally agree with your assessment!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 18 August 2019 20:11 (six years ago)

it’s a little too on blast, agreed

untuned mass damper (mh), Monday, 19 August 2019 00:49 (six years ago)

I love the new Blanck Mass album. I'm kind of surprised he doesn't have a dedicated thread by now. "No Dice" is the standout for me. It's catchy and so stylistically audacious. Makes me smile every time I hear it. I'll admit to experiencing a bit of fatigue when listening all the way through on headphones - which was the case with World Eater, too, but he's just cornered the market on whatever genre this is. When I play something new in the house, my wife likes to try to guess when it was made and she was completely stumped by this album.

beard papa, Wednesday, 21 August 2019 19:49 (six years ago)

there's a fuck buttons thread i think. This is a very 'tarot sports' album imo, which - if i wasn't clear before - means i like it a lot.

seconding praise for chants!

this is cool, more jazzy aspects

https://afrikansciences.bandcamp.com/album/centered

now that i have listened to the LOFT a few times i have decided i don't like it. it's like 'eruption' but for ableton, just endless digital fireworks but no groove. v disappointed bc i really liked their earlier stuff

soniccouture i feel like is having a good few years lol

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:29 (six years ago)

I like those tracks but feel conflicted about the project of making dance music in 7/8. It would be cool to blend with 4/4 though!

The DJ Haram RA mix rips, and I'm not just saying that because I have a track in it (!).

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 17 September 2019 21:58 (six years ago)

I agree it looks wack as fuck on paper but works sonically imo

Congrats on the track!

Feel like overall 2019 hasn’t quite delivered the reconstructed goods ...

https://northernelectronics.bandcamp.com/album/my-world-my-way

I like this one a lot but perhaps it's more scratching industrial itches (better see the doc about them!)

calzino, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 14:33 (six years ago)

oops just realised I posted same album to this thread 2 months ago, never mind!

calzino, Wednesday, 18 September 2019 14:33 (six years ago)

Feel like overall 2019 hasn’t quite delivered the reconstructed goods ...

Idk, I feel really good about this year, but mostly through mixes and one-offs rather than big statement releases maybe? There have been some big stand-outs like Le Dom, DJ Plead, Leonce, Siete Catorce, and amazondotcom though.

Here's some straight-up ballroom bangers:
https://byrellthegreat.bandcamp.com/album/the-book-of-vanity

And some different takes on cumbia edits:
https://hiedrah.bandcamp.com/album/bichote-k-bailable-vol-1

fair enough im probably just flaunting my own ignorance lol

the amazon is def the best one so far, leonce first track hits super hard but the rapping at the end of the EP ......

enjoying this RN, more laid back playful vibes, post vaporwave RCM? track 6 slaps

i need to get off my ass and just make the industrial-cumbia-ragga-step record i am hearing in my head

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Thursday, 26 September 2019 18:13 (six years ago)

Oh I actually don't like that Leonce EP nearly as much as this other new one:

https://leonce.xyz/album/penetration-testing-ep

Which makes sense as I think the Night Slugs one has tracks that are 2 - 3 years old and took forever to come up (drama with another label). Although, the last track with the ballroom mc is my favorite by far. :)

Still need to check out that Complete Walkthru record, he's great though.

Svbkvlt records are always interesting, and this 33EMYBW one has Ikonika and Lechuga Zafiro remixes (!)
https://svbkvlt.bandcamp.com/album/arthropods

And one of my favorite people (who also masters all of my releases) just dropped a new Liquid City Motors EP!
https://liquidcitymotors.bandcamp.com/releases

I remember hearing these tracks awhile back, very minimal but beguiling, and they sound amazing on a loud system.

still working through listening to the backlog of musicians I saw live in the last months and made notes to check out later

Msylma’s live show was cool. And (braggin’ 2019) as I was sitting in the dark at the back against a wall, I noticed a couple sitting a few feet away kind of vibing and occasionally chatting. Once my eyes adjusted I figured out it was Vladislav Delay/ Agf
:O

On the darker/more industrial/Bristol-ish end of things, the Giant Swan is excellent.

pomenitul, Thursday, 14 November 2019 09:32 (six years ago)

caught siete catorce and debit a few weeks back in nyc; they slayed, room didnt quite do it justice but imo relatively slower industrial guachero goes a lot harder than cheesy 160bpm ebm stuff. we need more triplets in the club

on that note completely non-club oriented topdown dialetic releases are giving me life as winter descends, dubby basic channel / porter ricks vibes but much more detailed and spontaneous in a way; pseudo-diegetic club ambient

I've already mentioned filmmaker upthread somewhere. I've been listening to this stuff a lot lately. Dark atmospheric techno, pretty much perfect work music for me.

Anyway, since this guy somehow released 9 albums of material this year (the albums are pretty much all under 40 min, but still), I've attempted a best-of and I'm just gonna put the playlist here in case anyone is interested:
