the guitars are so great on this, love "pieces" and "plans"

the guitars feel like they're mixed way too high, which is something i would not say about other DJr records. so far not feeling it as much as Beyond.

well i got it off eMusic so i know that's not why it sounds 'off' to me

i like it a lot. agree about Plans and Pieces, maybe some other i forgot. the sound of the guitars does get a little irritating after a while, but since i was listening to mp3's i doubt it had anything to do with wrong mixing anyway.

i have lots of other Dinosaur Jr. albums on mp3 where i can actually hear the drums, though.

This may be the first cd i ever buy based on the cover art. Utterly spectacular.

Dinosaur Jr. have been made aware that the European CD version of their new album “Farm” has an audio problem.

Whilst duplicating the original master, the software program ‘doubled’ the sound layers. This resulted in a 3dB increase in the overall sound volume.

Anyone that has bought a copy of the album with the bar code number 5414939004926, should go to http://media.pias.com/dinosaurjrfarmcd. and will be told how to exchange their copy.

The band are ’bummed’ that this happened and are not taking the situation lightly. Both Dinosaur Jr. and their label PIAS would like to offer their fans something extra for this inconvenience, so in addition to a replacement CD, fans can download a free ringtone of the single "Over It".

A valid email address is required to receive the ringtone. Postage will also be covered to make this exchange easier.

I downloaded this from eMusic too and it sounds TERRIBLE. And not terrible in a good way as in Bug, YLAOM, etc. Just bad. Bummer, too, cuz I like the songs but my ears won't have it.

I don't know, my CD copy sounds pretty good to these ears.

they did a bunch of old songs at the forum in may, i say go see 'em.

OK since someone else who got it off eMusic has the same complaint now I'm really wondering if somehow they got the bad Euro version too

i just got a European promo version and my soulseek mp3's sound a lot better, lol.

Always puts me in a great mood, though I REALLY don't like the two Barlow tracks (bad way to end the album) (gotta remember to delete those). Very much that classic feel though, which is more than one could have expected this far along.

I forget which one has that super jangly guitar riff, either the first or third track. I love that one, gotta listen to the rest again when I've got a chance

oh yeah the lou stuff is kinda disappointing. the first one really gets going by the end of it but it's all sorta jarring in a bad way.

Ah, see, this is the case with EVERY Dino Jr album for me...

the one that ends the album definetely should go yeah.

i really liked his tunes on Beyond, though (and he actually had a song on side 1 for once!). i don't think there's a single album this year i feel more conflicted/disappointed about not liking as much as other people. and i mean, i was pretty into Hand It Over and More Light.

"Alone" (from Hand it Over) may be the most miserable-yet-awesome epic J has ever recorded.

yeah it was great! just doesn't seem to be universally well regarded, though.

It has some less-than-memorable tracks (as do most of his/Dino's records), but it also has some pretty unique elements as well--MBV's backing vocals for starters.... I pretty much like everything he/they have done except for "Free so Free"--that one was just lackluster in every way.

yeah i feel like he's never made a perfect album but he's really consistent from album to album (although i missed Free So Free and never got the impression i really needed to hear it, so i'll take your word for it). Hand It Over definitely has some distict sounds that make it probably my 2nd fav Dino album after You're Living.

That's what I'm saying. This is a really good album. Actually liked the one before it a little more. Still, that cover art is fucking outstanding.

Don't Pretend You Didn't Know is a very Mascis title; Pierce The Morning Rain, not so much.

Album title doesn't seem very Mascis like. Good cover though.

So many prime Mascis titles here. "I Know It Oh So Well" and "Stick a Toe In" are pretty good, but "Almost Fare" and "What Was That" are Green Mind-caliber

been in a heavy Dino Jr phase lately, psyched to hear there's a new one on the way

the last two are so so good. they are total sanctuary records for me, I come back to them on headphones when I need them, either to fry myself to I Don't Wanna Go There or for the frazzled tender slow jams. I can see Pierce The Morning Rain as a J thing. his lyrics are so simple and sad now.

I hope the bass makes an appearance in the mix this time.

Sanctuary records is the perfect way to describe them. Dinosaur Jr. was my favorite band though middle school (which I suppose is odd in hindsight), so having them back and making honestly great new albums is such a source of comfort. It's vindicating to know that middle school Evan wasn't wrong; these guys were and are awesome

why is that odd? they were my favorite in middle and high school too.

Eh, I guess it's not odd in and of itself so much as it's odd to think of a time when Dinosaur Jr. could have been a middle schooler's favorite band. And sometimes I forget that they were my favorite. It's easy to simply those memories and make Nirvana or The Clash or some other important band my favorite. But no, it was always Dino Jr.

I downloaded my copy from e music and never got round to asking them why they had managed to upload it without bass. Is it reallymeant to sound that bad? Christ

I don't think it sounds that awful, but I really focus on J's guitar so much that I don't really find myself missing the bass all that much.

Still haven't heard any recent Dinosaur Jr, but on their first few albums and live those rickenbacker bass chords were half the beauty.

fwiw i always thought the bass came through fine on the last couple, or never noticed its absence. it's obv way more prominent on the lou songs, too.
