got to get the younger dads to buy it
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 14 June 2019 18:09 (four years ago) link
Tbf, "Teenage Dirtbag" is older than "Stairway to Heaven" was when I was 12 and it was topping the yearly classic rock countdown. Whether it is classic is a different question.
― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 14 June 2019 19:08 (four years ago) link
I suppose it is to people who bought it
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 14 June 2019 19:10 (four years ago) link
Voted for "(Don't Fear) the Reaper" but "Roundabout" and "Tom Sawyer" provided some solid competition.
― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 14 June 2019 19:14 (four years ago) link
Apparently, I don't understand how numbers work because 20 > 19 but the statement works if you substitute "Free Bird" for "Stairway to Heaven" and "topping" for "doing well on".

Velvets

What's the most recent music that gets played on classic rock stations these days? "Seven Nation Army" maybe?
― jmm, Friday, 14 June 2019 19:31 (four years ago) link
79. Funk #48 – James Gang
Uhhhhhh...
― Mr. Snrub, Friday, 14 June 2019 19:35 (four years ago) link
I kinda wanna throw a vote to Thunderclap Newman or the Velvets, but I know I'll just end up voting for the Who.
― Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 14 June 2019 19:38 (four years ago) link
Well well, according to Wikipedia, there really is a “Funk #48”. I rescind my snarky “Uhhhh...” comment.
― Mr. Snrub, Friday, 14 June 2019 19:41 (four years ago) link
Yeah, but that's not the radio hit.
― confusementalism (Dan Peterson), Friday, 14 June 2019 20:15 (four years ago) link
UK compilation so it may have been a hit here

I found this half more difficult than the first half. Was about to give the Stranglers some love but then I saw the final option for the iconic Won't Get Fooled Again. YEEEEAAAAAAAAAH!
― Valentijn, Friday, 14 June 2019 20:45 (four years ago) link
I'd never heard "Teenage Dirtbag" until today, and have absolutely no idea how anyone could possibly call that song "good" let alone a "classic."
― blue light or electric light (the table is the table), Friday, 14 June 2019 21:02 (four years ago) link
one of these, leaning towards funk #49
51. (Don’t Fear) The Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult65. Roundabout – Yes68. The House Of The Rising Sun – The Animals76. Love Is The Drug – Roxy Music79. Funk #48 – James Gang100. Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who
― old cloud yells at man (voodoo chili), Friday, 14 June 2019 21:05 (four years ago) link
I have a feeling Roundabout might do well. It's the only Yes song I like funnily enough.

Slow Ride
― kornrulez6969, Friday, 14 June 2019 22:28 (four years ago) link
Voted Thunderclap Newman. If the Yes song was Siberian Khatru I'd vote for it. Or Tempus Fugit I guess.
― Flood-Resistant Mirror-Drilling Machine (rushomancy), Saturday, 15 June 2019 01:39 (four years ago) link
Happy and surprised to see James gang here but I prefer “walk away” to “49” as well as “rocky mountain” (on the other poll)
― calstars, Saturday, 15 June 2019 02:03 (four years ago) link
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" is the number one song for me to assassinate. Thank god my local classic rock station doesn't monkey around with that shit.
"Reaper" for me. Eternally creepy.
― Bunny Boiler Alert (I M Losted), Saturday, 15 June 2019 08:36 (four years ago) link
It's definitely one of the worst songs ever

The idea of canonizing "Teenage Dirtbag" as classic rock feels pretty quintessentially UK to me.
― billstevejim, Saturday, 15 June 2019 18:20 (four years ago) link
its hardly canonizing its just selling CDs to people in their 20s/30s who will rememember some of the songs
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Saturday, 15 June 2019 20:35 (four years ago) link
I think my real answer is one of these:
51. (Don’t Fear) The Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult55. I Want You To Want Me – Cheap Trick64. Stranglehold – Ted Nugent81. Somebody To Love – Jefferson Airplane87. Hold The Line – Toto90. Free Ride – The Edgar Winter Group94. I’m Waiting For The Man – The Velvet Underground & Nico96. 20th Century Boy – T. Rex100. Won’t Get Fooled Again – The Who
― Vape Store (crüt), Saturday, 15 June 2019 21:16 (four years ago) link
oh i didn't even see House of the Rising Sun on there, that might be my actual vote
Where I was in 90s, the song that probably got the most airplay on CRR out of these was fscking “carry on my wayward son” which is so bad
― calstars, Saturday, 15 June 2019 21:29 (four years ago) link
I like that song

Carry on then
― calstars, Monday, 17 June 2019 12:59 (four years ago) link
I only learned recently that Teenage Dirtbag is somehow about the singer being bullied by metalhead killer Ricky "Acid King" Kasso as a kid, and then I guess subsequently getting targeted by authority figures because he liked AC/DC and Iron Maiden just like Ricky. It's a pretty cool fact, but upon re-listening it still doesn't make me like the song.
