I'm not surprised by so many SC songs but I am surprised this one ended up so high

Sea change is a snore and an amateur Nick Drake homage

yeah this is not one that i would have guessed would place, much less break the top 30

it's the Spike Jonze video that i remember most about this song.

I think there was some disappointment when people realized "fun Beck" wasn't really coming back

1994-95 this is the greatest shit I've ever heard in my life
1996 (listening to Odelay) this is pretty good but those samples are like the whole song sometimes
1996 (after live show) that was one of the greatest shows ever
1997 wow these b-sides are great *buys in multiple formats*
1998 this is kind of depressing *continues buying odds & ends*
1999 YEAH FUCK YEAH PARTY BECK
2000-2001 hello???
2002 well this is a bummer
2003-2019 (bits and pieces sound cool/look cool, hard to keep up, multiple formats)

I started to vote in this but didn’t have time. Dug through the catalog a bit for the first time I awhile and noticed how he went from a sometimes great lyricist to being a really subpar one right around SC.

is GIDF the video where he ended up playing soccer with the kid? that was cute

Never saw that Guess Im Doin Fine video before & found it here It's funny. Hadnt heard the song in a while and had a moment where I as like "is this right, or is it playing at half speed?"

The ending is so great as well. "I'm the enchanting wizard of rhythm"

Some of the best lines of that album are on Hotwax.

Well, you're a -- well, no.

My Beck chronology was
1) Loser on mtv/radio seemed like a novelty/joke for kids younger than me but the Allman Bros sample is dope.
2) a friend played me the rest of mellow gold & it blew my mind!
3) checked out ssm & ofitg and thought he was the gonna be the new Dylan watershed.
4) odelay was everywhere all the time until I got sick of it - I actually interviewed for a staff writing job at amg when their office was a house in central Michigan and they were playing it during the interview and asked me what I thought the album of the year should be and I said car button cloth by the Lemonheads to be contrary and didn't get the job.
5) mutations blew my mind again, he's genius!
6) I got married, got a real job
7) Debra - unbelievable! - he's changing again and nailing a funny falsetto torch song! The rest of MV was fun, but again it felt like novelty for someone younger than me.
8) I moved on, had kids
9) sea change - see my post above, it tore us up, like he was one of us at the time.
10) the information - had stickers for the kids to play with on the cover, but I guess the his genius has run dry.
11) guerro, why bother? Modern guilt - didn't even buy.
12) morning phase - yawn. I'm old and boring and so is he.
13) colors - my teenaged kids don't walk out of the room when I play it, I guess it's cool for dad rock.

Petty’s version of Asshole never sat well with me, hearing those lyrics come from an old guy kind of changes the song in a way I don’t love

well, he'd have experience with being an asshole.

I Ramshackle was top ten for me, one of those closers that’s so good it puts a whole different cast on what came before it
