I think I cut Chemtrails from my ballot at the last minute, glad it made it.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:06 (seven years ago)

only song from Modern Guilt that made my ballot, such a good late era song from Beck.

no sea change songs made my ballot but "little one" was on there for a few of the early drafts. easily my favorite song on the record, think the production on the chorus is perfect

One Eye Open is hitting them out of the park!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:40 (seven years ago)

xp Little One and paper tiger both have that dark-orchestral-psych thing going on and kill it, the most successful songs on Sea Change. Interesting hearing it back to back with Chemtrails

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:40 (seven years ago)

Little One always reminded me of Neil Young’s There’s a World, but that could be my addled mind acting up again

HIGH 5

162 Points, 6 Votes

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:01 (seven years ago)

the other sea change song i love!

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

never got the love for High 5, maybe my least favorite Odelay track?

Ambient Police (sleeve), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:05 (seven years ago)

Re:High 5 that was the case for me too for a long time, but as the years have gone by I'm come to love it, especially for its placement on the album. Its like all the chaos and layers and samples and noise finally become too much and the album just explodes and breaks down completely.

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:16 (seven years ago)

i forgot "Sunday Sun" was one of the singles from Sea Change. i think i voted for it at number 25 or right around there.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:19 (seven years ago)

yep it's a victory lap + spontaneous combustion, and it's so fun xp

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:19 (seven years ago)

Hi 5 is on Mellow

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:25 (seven years ago)

"sing it again" is so lovely and i'm sorta glad it beat those sea change tracks

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:25 (seven years ago)

First track I voted for to show up. I had it high, top 10 I think

really wonderful run of songs today

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:44 (seven years ago)

Sing It Again probably would have been top 5 for me if I had voted, i've always loved just the sound of the words in that song ("The misers wind their minds / Like clocks that grind their gears")

Credibility shot

calstars, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:47 (seven years ago)

Gave Blackhole a whole load of points, but if a song was on Mellow Gold it had a high chance of getting points. One of the better tracks though

imago, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:51 (seven years ago)

This one was v close to the top for me. Have a vivid memory of listening to Mellow Gold on headphones for the first time and hearing this song and having one of those moments where I realized I'd been standing completely still holding my breath, just completely absorbed by it. Incredible recording.

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)

really wonderful run of songs today

it really is and speaks volumes of the depth of his catalog. when i finally got the results you can now see why i had to add ten more songs. these extra ten songs had to make this countdown!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)

On the contrary: it speaks to the shallowness of his catalog. He knows what he knows, and that's fine with me.

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)

I love Blackhole but (again) could not make room for it, I just love the way the thing sounds, all reverbed out and deep and cavernous

Like, how can something be so wrong, so fucked, so hopeless, and yet also sound like a giant eternal warm cosmic bath? It enters the heart of America and threatens to live there forever, with the ocean and the bees...

imago, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 20:11 (seven years ago)

This line in Blackhole guts me every time: Little boy, little boy / Layin in a sleeping bag / Watchin, watchin / through the cracks in his eyelids

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 20:13 (seven years ago)

Love the droning guitar playing on Whiskeyclone
