Awesome visuals 📶📶📶

calstars, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:19 (seven years ago)

ooh ooh ooh!

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:22 (seven years ago)

oh peaches, they're going to do you like that?

I should've taken part. Be back at the end!

maffew12, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:24 (seven years ago)

"You make a garbage man scream
Come on girl it's a dream"

one of my favorites and this one did make my ballot.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:28 (seven years ago)

good percussion

imago, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:30 (seven years ago)

I shoulda voted for it but just could not find the space, I love this one

Ambient Police (sleeve), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:30 (seven years ago)

Man, the Midnite Vultures stuff did not age well, I'm sorry

Detective Picacho (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:31 (seven years ago)

xp thanks calstars. Beck's album art & videos bring up so many distinct visual themes in my mind - the junk sculptures of Mellow Gold, the 70s ads & formica of Odelay, country & western swag, the more melancholy surrealism & pastel vibes of his 2000s stuff - it was fun to mash all those together and mix them up.

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:32 (seven years ago)

xpost to me

I mean, to think that, like, one year year later, Pharrell would be making some of the sickest actual rap and R&B music out with actual funky beats and a this same quasi-ironic falsetto and off-kilter outlook, idk

Detective Picacho (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:34 (seven years ago)

You make a dead garbage man scream come

calstars, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:35 (seven years ago)

i think the more straight up electro pop moments aged extremely well cf. "get real paid"

indifferent to the idea of aging beyond that anyway

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:35 (seven years ago)

i guess i get that the attitude behind some of the songs aged incredibly poorly but again, i feel like that is mainly isolated to "hollywood freaks"

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:36 (seven years ago)

i like the idea of still needing 5 votes to get into the Top 50.

49. Thunder Peel
From: Stereopathetic Soulmanure
Released: 22 February 1994
136 Points, 5 votes

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:37 (seven years ago)

I'm not the biggest fan of Midnite Vultures and it does feel a bit like the beginning of the end in some ways...but much of it is still quite good imo

oh what's this

imago, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:38 (seven years ago)

glad you went with a top 50 as i would've been devastated to miss "thunderpeel" in the countdown xp

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:38 (seven years ago)

Stereopathetic Soulmanure not being on Spotify is argument No. 501 on why throwing away your CDs is stupid

Detective Picacho (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:40 (seven years ago)

both versions whip ass but

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:40 (seven years ago)

Peaches & Cream didn't make my ballot in favor of some of the more bonkers MV tracks, but does have some of the best & weirdest lines on that record

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:41 (seven years ago)

Someone on youtube should do a supercut of Beck's end-of-song noise jams, like his version of that Neil Young feedback album.

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:45 (seven years ago)

OK why haven't I heard Stereopathetic Soulmanure before

imago, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:45 (seven years ago)

it rules

Thunder Peel rules, I saw him do it live on the Odelay tour and it smoked

Ambient Police (sleeve), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:48 (seven years ago)

wow yes imago i recommend that you listen to that music album

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:49 (seven years ago)

can't remember where Thunder Peel was on my ballot but it was def in the top 15

Ambient Police (sleeve), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:49 (seven years ago)

"I come from the land of the ice and snow / With the jigsaw jazz and the get-fresh flow"

Nice! I used to go around singing "I got two Clark Gables and a David Cone."

clemenza, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:49 (seven years ago)

Yeah, Stereopathetic Soul Manure was No. 2 on my albums poll. A great companion to Mellow Gold!

very excited that this one made the Top 50.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:59 (seven years ago)

Ah man these images are stellar

Uptown VONC (Le Bateau Ivre), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:59 (seven years ago)

my favorite track on modern guilt, love the prog beck it hints at

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:00 (seven years ago)

Yeah easily the standout of MG. Joey Waronker is just completely bonkers on this. Would love a whole album of tunes in this vein.

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:04 (seven years ago)

I think I cut Chemtrails from my ballot at the last minute, glad it made it.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:06 (seven years ago)

only song from Modern Guilt that made my ballot, such a good late era song from Beck.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

no sea change songs made my ballot but "little one" was on there for a few of the early drafts. easily my favorite song on the record, think the production on the chorus is perfect

46. High 5 (Rock the Catskills)
Released: June 18, 1996
161 Points, 6 Votes

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:39 (seven years ago)

One Eye Open is hitting them out of the park!

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:40 (seven years ago)

xp Little One and paper tiger both have that dark-orchestral-psych thing going on and kill it, the most successful songs on Sea Change. Interesting hearing it back to back with Chemtrails

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:40 (seven years ago)

Little One always reminded me of Neil Young’s There’s a World, but that could be my addled mind acting up again

Jeff the grown man (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:41 (seven years ago)

HIGH 5
MORE DEAD THAN ALIVE

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 18:47 (seven years ago)

Little One was one of two SC songs on my ballot :)

45. Sunday Sun
From: Sea Change
Single Released: September 24, 2002
162 Points, 6 Votes

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:01 (seven years ago)

the other sea change song i love!

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

never got the love for High 5, maybe my least favorite Odelay track?

Ambient Police (sleeve), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:05 (seven years ago)

Re:High 5 that was the case for me too for a long time, but as the years have gone by I'm come to love it, especially for its placement on the album. Its like all the chaos and layers and samples and noise finally become too much and the album just explodes and breaks down completely.

One Eye Open, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:16 (seven years ago)

i forgot "Sunday Sun" was one of the singles from Sea Change. i think i voted for it at number 25 or right around there.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:19 (seven years ago)

yep it's a victory lap + spontaneous combustion, and it's so fun xp

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:19 (seven years ago)

Hi 5 is on Mellow
It’s a good companion piece to Mountajn Dew rock
