"julien" is indeed really nice. at this point i'm not really expecting this album to be the revelation that Emotion was but if she can keep releasing songs this nice it'll still be a worthy follow up

ufo, Friday, 19 April 2019 02:00 (seven years ago)

It's a nice enough song, I guess, but isn't it a bit of an odd choice for an album opener?

fragglerock, Friday, 19 April 2019 04:10 (seven years ago)

this one sounds amazing to me damn

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 April 2019 06:30 (seven years ago)

julien
it was more than a fantasy
to the end

this is how you write a pop lyric baby

J0rdan S., Friday, 19 April 2019 06:35 (seven years ago)

Me 4 minutes ago: Listen here, fraggle, history is filled with strange album openers! Tears of Rage from Music from Big Pink, Over & Over from Tusk, etc.

Me now: It's a nice enough song, I guess, but isn't it a bit of an odd choice for an album opener?

love the idea of the album swirling and snapping itself into place

it's amazing

carly singing over what sounds like a french house edit from 2001, feels effortless and weightless in the best way

I can't listen at work so I'm just imagining it's a Dave Matthews cover.

☮ (peace, man), Thursday, 9 May 2019 12:21 (seven years ago)

Spice Girls cover obviously.

"Too Much" is really evocative of something else but i can't place it

it's fine but not amazing

ufo, Thursday, 9 May 2019 13:08 (seven years ago)

after a few listens i love it </inevitable>

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 May 2019 13:08 (seven years ago)

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 9 May 2019 13:12 (seven years ago)

Was looking to see if the album has leaked earlier (it hasn't) and found this unofficial Through My Head EP from a couple of months ago that contains some unreleased tracks from, apparently, 2014-2017

I am sad to report it does not interpolate the vengaboys

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Tuesday, 14 May 2019 12:21 (seven years ago)

although it does have chords similar enough that I almost suspect it was gonna

boom boom boom boom, we couldn't get the clearance, the clearance for the tune

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Tuesday, 14 May 2019 12:29 (seven years ago)

oh i know what "Too Much" reminds me of now, it feels like it's right off Tove Styrke's Sway since the stripped down synth riff with 3-3-2 thing that it does was also the basis for most of the songs on that album

ufo, Tuesday, 14 May 2019 13:13 (seven years ago)

also checked if it had leaked today and was rewarded with a fake leak of a guy yelling "i am carly rae jepsen i love to sing" a lot

ufo, Tuesday, 14 May 2019 13:15 (seven years ago)

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 16 May 2019 08:08 (seven years ago)

I like how with that 5-10-15-20 feature, the older the artist is, the more albums they get to list. Carly Rae only gets 6, but someone like David Byrne gets to list 13.
Anyway, the most interesting thing about her list was the old pictures: https://cdn.pitchfork.com/longform/909/carlyraejepsen4.jpg

enochroot, Thursday, 16 May 2019 12:50 (seven years ago)

The album has leaked for real this time

groovypanda, Thursday, 16 May 2019 13:11 (seven years ago)

omg "want you in my room"

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 16 May 2019 13:44 (seven years ago)

why is it so short though!

ufo, Thursday, 16 May 2019 13:47 (seven years ago)

unrelated to the new album but i had no idea that haim co-wrote "making the most of the night"

ufo, Thursday, 16 May 2019 14:02 (seven years ago)

15 tracks on mine (but all just under/over the three minute mark)

groovypanda, Thursday, 16 May 2019 14:03 (seven years ago)

i meant "want you in my room" not the album. "for sure" and "party for one" are officially bonus tracks though

this review is pretty otm

ufo, Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:21 (seven years ago)

i don't agree with it v much at all, least of all that it sorta disses kiss

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:23 (seven years ago)

nstead, we’re getting bland songs to soundtrack inspirational Queer Eye ads -- yeah

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:23 (seven years ago)

mostly i think critics projected too hard onto emotion

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:24 (seven years ago)

As a whole, Dedicated’s palette is more muted. It’s more in line with the current vogue of anesthetized songs than E•MO•TION was, which felt like a bright burst in the face of pop’s moody grays.

also this is an inaccurate description of the record

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:24 (seven years ago)

also, bad writing

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:25 (seven years ago)

shouting “firsties” shouldn’t be a command to be taken seriously. and yet

maura, Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:27 (seven years ago)

Stereogum in bad writing shocka

self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:30 (seven years ago)

i think this album rules and blows emotion out of the water

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:35 (seven years ago)

but i’ve come to understand that most ppl will find that position crazy

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:37 (seven years ago)

I never considered Emotion a front-to-back masterpiece; it's its own sonic identity, different from Kiss, which I like as much.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:40 (seven years ago)

i think even the one that sounds like random access memories is great

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:43 (seven years ago)

people get too affected by album cover art sometimes

omar little, Thursday, 16 May 2019 15:45 (seven years ago)

The stereogum review is pretty OTM about Emotion (there really isn't a bad song anywhere on there), so i'm a little apprehensive about hearing the new one now.
