“Group Sex” vs. “Dirty Mind” is a really hard choice (and I’m not just making a joke)

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Sunday, 14 April 2019 23:18 (seven years ago)

both are all-time great

Dan S, Sunday, 14 April 2019 23:24 (seven years ago)

never understood any love the pretenders got. Her voice is like nails on chalkboard to me

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 12:29 (seven years ago)

I listened to it there a couple of days ago and it still sounds great. The bonus tracks on the extended version of the album are fantastic too.

. (Michael B), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 12:49 (seven years ago)

I'd vote Los Angeles if it was on here, can make a case that Crocodiles is underrated and highly influential.

I don't mind her voice and think they were a decent pop band in their prime, but 9.5 times out of 10 I'd rather listen to Blondie.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 13:20 (seven years ago)

Remain In Light is top 20 all-time for me. Maybe top 10.

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 13:53 (seven years ago)

This is Talking Heads vs Colossal Youth, and they’re both amazing albums.

My vote goes to Colossal Youth because it was a more influential record to me, even if in reality it had no precedent or spiritual followers. It feels like a record outside of time and place and it’s pretty much perfect in its own terms.

Albums not in this list that would be in mine:

Aqsak Maboul - Un peu de l'âme des bandits
Bauhaus - In the Flat Field
The Cramps - Songs the Lord Taught Us
Max Roach - M'Boom
Pylon - Gyrate

I'd vote Los Angeles if it was on here

I dont get whats the big deal about X tbh

. (Michael B), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 14:19 (seven years ago)

Seem like a band Americans like.

Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 14:23 (seven years ago)

xxp

Max Roach - M'Boom

such a fine + underrated album is that!

calzino, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 14:29 (seven years ago)

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 15:08 (seven years ago)

re: X, I still remember my first time hearing Los Angeles

Dan S, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 23:46 (seven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 18 April 2019 00:01 (seven years ago)

not sure how Remain In Light is in both the 1979 and 1980 polls, always thought of it as from 1980, voting for it in this one

Dan S, Thursday, 18 April 2019 00:21 (seven years ago)

ok I forgot that thread title was a mistake

Dan S, Thursday, 18 April 2019 00:24 (seven years ago)

that will be confusing when searching for the real 1979 poll

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 18 April 2019 11:51 (seven years ago)

I asked the mods to delete it

. (Michael B), Thursday, 18 April 2019 12:00 (seven years ago)

I hope they delete the right one! haha

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 18 April 2019 12:09 (seven years ago)

i knew talking heads would walk it but 28 votes? wow

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:00 (seven years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 19 April 2019 00:01 (seven years ago)

good showing for colossal youth

Burt Bacharach's Bees (rushomancy), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:07 (seven years ago)

Oh my! Like, what a fuckin' surprise!

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:18 (seven years ago)

joy division 1 vote

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:19 (seven years ago)

Joy Division with only 1 vote! Shocking!

. (Michael B), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:20 (seven years ago)

Yes, that was a surprise. Two out of three ain't bad, as Meat Loaf once sang.

I can think of about 40 albums released in 1980 that mean more to me than Remain in Light, but whatever.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:24 (seven years ago)

to ilx they are just demos for the real project

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:24 (seven years ago)

Ha! Yeah, I can see how one would think that...

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:27 (seven years ago)

ilx is of course wrong

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 19 April 2019 00:36 (seven years ago)

sorry to the lone voter for The Beat, I know it's as good as Crocodiles but 'All That Jazz' came on shuffle recently and I lost my mind.

campreverb, Friday, 19 April 2019 03:29 (seven years ago)

I voted for Closer, which I suppose makes it the 1980 album for people who don't care for 1980.

pomenitul, Friday, 19 April 2019 13:36 (seven years ago)

This is amazing footage, imo.

Weird, I thought I voted for it too. I think a lot of times I post my choice but forget to actually vote.

brimstead, Saturday, 20 April 2019 06:24 (seven years ago)

Tbf I may be the one who merely voted in spirit.
