Blackpink's live performances can be patchy but they're kind of killing this set. A good show for K-pop's Coachella debut.

this band is so fucking good. love it if we made it is just fucking massive.

i swear they should just finish their albums, then send them to me to trim off 15 or 20 minutes every time, and then release *that*, and they'd be the best band in the world. as it is they're pretty darn close and they release bloated albums.

(Helps that I think something prior to The 1975 overran so there was very little time between the set streams)

highlight among highlights might've been I Like America & America Likes Me ... shit was intense.

Donald Glover's got a grey-ass beard, man!

Strong showing from the Childish Gambino set. We're clearly living in a post-Beychella world re: the camerawork these headliners get but Glover would have owned that stage either way.
Also sweet to see Janelle giving him a pep-talk when they followed him backstage, after she'd shouted him out in her set beforehand.

This is starting up again for the day.

that Childish Gambino set was pretty great, imo, though it was very clearly Beychella Lite. like he was aiming for the same sort of feel and scale, but he couldn't get anywhere near it, because ... welll ... she's Bey and he's not.

the song where everything turned red and he went out in the crowd and was singing in a different language (or gibberish) ... does anyone know what song that was (if it was a song)?

i interviewed the bassist for Weezer one time. he was exceedingly nice. i alwsays wonder what he thinks of this band, besides the fact that it's an excellent paycheck.

like is he empowered in the least to have input on band decisions/operations? or does he literally show up when they say to show up and do what he's told to do? what about the other two guys that have been there since the beginning?

i'm sorry but yes this performance is pretty robotic and yes Rivers has to be the most desperately thirsty rock star ever but also this band can pull more perfect pop-rock songs out of their catalog than most.

I had no doubt. And I like her stuff. She's great! But I'm afraid I don't quite get what it is about her that inspires such enthusiasm and devotion in such large numbers. (But that's OK, I am not exactly the target market, either.)

I wondered at first why Childish Gambino didn’t come out for “Break Your Heart...” — they’ve been talking about that — but my guess is they’ll do it the 2nd weekend, when Diddy/Ma$e aren’t there.

A loud helicopter woke me up around 3:30am, and I was convinced it was one of those high-rollers flying back in from Coachella (maybe landing at Van Nuys)... sort of shook my fist, lol... now I don’t know why I was so convinced (but I’d still bank on that hypothesis).

I know a guy who’s gone for 8 years straight... when I chatted with him about it last week (as he was getting ready for this year), he didn’t seem to really even know who was playing... I guess ppl just buy tix for the “experience”?

This was an incredible weekend, maybe the best in all the years I've gone. Thinking about going back for the second weekend.

It’s almost a fact by now that almost everyone at Coachella are there fueled by social media and the music is just background noise. If you’re in there solely for the music there’s 10 other festivals nearby where you can see the same artists for 1/4 of the cost.

well, there obviously aren't, because of radius clauses. or on the other hand, it's a year since the festival and the new lineup of Soulwax haven't played the US outside of California.
