Blackpink's live performances can be patchy but they're kind of killing this set. A good show for K-pop's Coachella debut.

If there was ever a time to be on form it's now.

You can't see it but I had an epiphany (Champiness), Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:25 (seven years ago)

The West is the best

Get here and we'll do the rest

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:36 (seven years ago)

Of course they had to start with Give Your Self

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:41 (seven years ago)

We are The 1975 from Manchester

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:46 (seven years ago)

This is so much fun

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:49 (seven years ago)

what a set so far!

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:51 (seven years ago)

i mean not like it's a bunch of old nuggets from the early EPs or whatever, just all the singles from the new album :)

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:52 (seven years ago)

They are like the Modern day Talking Heads

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 04:54 (seven years ago)

I drank rum tonight please excuse my enthusiasm

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:00 (seven years ago)

Somebody Else is one of my all time favorites

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:03 (seven years ago)

this band is so fucking good. love it if we made it is just fucking massive.

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:20 (seven years ago)

i swear they should just finish their albums, then send them to me to trim off 15 or 20 minutes every time, and then release *that*, and they'd be the best band in the world. as it is they're pretty darn close and they release bloated albums.

live, though ... killer.

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:22 (seven years ago)

Haha

Rock and Roll is Dead

The 1975

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:27 (seven years ago)

Matty looks older and more grown up than ever before

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:29 (seven years ago)

that was beyond amazing

we are not worthy

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:32 (seven years ago)

10:30 p.m. – Janelle Monáe (1)
11:15 p.m. – Charlotte Gainsbourg (2)
11:25 p.m. – Childish Gambino (1)
11:30 p.m. – Nora En Pure (3)
12:00 a.m. – DJ Snake (2)
12:05 a.m. – Kayzo (3)

still to come and two or maybe even more could also be great

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:33 (seven years ago)

Life has come up, checking out

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:37 (seven years ago)

The 1975 promoting Brief Inquiry into Janelle Monáe promoting Dirty Computer turning out to be a surprisingly cohesive twofer
(Helps that I think something prior to The 1975 overran so there was very little time between the set streams)

You can't see it but I had an epiphany (Champiness), Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:48 (seven years ago)

highlight among highlights might've been I Like America & America Likes Me ... shit was intense.

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 05:50 (seven years ago)

Donald Glover's got a grey-ass beard, man!

alpine static, Saturday, 13 April 2019 07:15 (seven years ago)

Strong showing from the Childish Gambino set. We're clearly living in a post-Beychella world re: the camerawork these headliners get but Glover would have owned that stage either way.
Also sweet to see Janelle giving him a pep-talk when they followed him backstage, after she'd shouted him out in her set beforehand.

You can't see it but I had an epiphany (Champiness), Saturday, 13 April 2019 08:02 (seven years ago)

This is starting up again for the day.

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 23:12 (seven years ago)

So bummed that Aphex Twin are playing tonight but won't be on YouTube

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 23:13 (seven years ago)

05:00 p.m. – "Guava Island: A Childish Gambino Film" (1,2,3)

Might be interesting

Bee OK, Saturday, 13 April 2019 23:59 (seven years ago)

🛌

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 00:31 (seven years ago)

that Childish Gambino set was pretty great, imo, though it was very clearly Beychella Lite. like he was aiming for the same sort of feel and scale, but he couldn't get anywhere near it, because ... welll ... she's Bey and he's not.

the song where everything turned red and he went out in the crowd and was singing in a different language (or gibberish) ... does anyone know what song that was (if it was a song)?

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 02:09 (seven years ago)

We're clearly living in a post-Beychella world
you nailed it bro

calstars, Sunday, 14 April 2019 02:58 (seven years ago)

Weezer in 2019 huh?

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 03:44 (seven years ago)

Rivers seems like he has a little bit of brain damage

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 03:52 (seven years ago)

i interviewed the bassist for Weezer one time. he was exceedingly nice. i alwsays wonder what he thinks of this band, besides the fact that it's an excellent paycheck.

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:00 (seven years ago)

like is he empowered in the least to have input on band decisions/operations? or does he literally show up when they say to show up and do what he's told to do? what about the other two guys that have been there since the beginning?

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:04 (seven years ago)

All the hits

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:07 (seven years ago)

Really? Tears for Fears

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:08 (seven years ago)

Oh with guest vocals, that's better

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:09 (seven years ago)

I originally thought it was going to be like some Africa cover

That was cool

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:12 (seven years ago)

i'm sorry but yes this performance is pretty robotic and yes Rivers has to be the most desperately thirsty rock star ever but also this band can pull more perfect pop-rock songs out of their catalog than most.

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:30 (seven years ago)

I agree with that. Really generic show but those songs are some serious ear candy

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:50 (seven years ago)

Four Tet are one of my favorite brands

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 04:54 (seven years ago)

My stepdaughter is jumping excitedly on my bed right now waiting for Billie Eilish, chanting her name along with the crowd on YouTube.

Roz, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:06 (seven years ago)

Awe

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:15 (seven years ago)

This Four Tet set is groovy

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:16 (seven years ago)

If anyone had any doubt about what a massive star BE is, this should put it to rest. The crowd is singing along loudly to every single line.

Roz, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:27 (seven years ago)

Lol Vince Staples just came on as a guest but his mic was off. Yikes.

Roz, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:29 (seven years ago)

I had no doubt. And I like her stuff. She's great! But I'm afraid I don't quite get what it is about her that inspires such enthusiasm and devotion in such large numbers. (But that's OK, I am not exactly the target market, either.)

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:30 (seven years ago)

xpost

alpine static, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:31 (seven years ago)

Tuning in now, couldn't tear myself away from Four Tet.

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:35 (seven years ago)

In reality we should be watching Solange about now

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:37 (seven years ago)

😒

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 05:38 (seven years ago)

Looking forward to this Tame Impala set. Still can't wait they are heading, let alone on Saturday night.

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 April 2019 06:05 (seven years ago)

"NASA" presentation is beautiful... can't wait to see this show next month.

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Monday, 15 April 2019 06:47 (seven years ago)

why not have Nikki come back out for The Light Is Coming?

alpine static, Monday, 15 April 2019 06:56 (seven years ago)

Maybe she was supposed to, but said f that due to the sound issues? Apparently she couldn’t hear in either earpiece.

I wondered at first why Childish Gambino didn’t come out for “Break Your Heart...” — they’ve been talking about that — but my guess is they’ll do it the 2nd weekend, when Diddy/Ma$e aren’t there.

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Monday, 15 April 2019 14:22 (seven years ago)

A loud helicopter woke me up around 3:30am, and I was convinced it was one of those high-rollers flying back in from Coachella (maybe landing at Van Nuys)... sort of shook my fist, lol... now I don’t know why I was so convinced (but I’d still bank on that hypothesis).

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Monday, 15 April 2019 14:30 (seven years ago)

I know a guy who’s gone for 8 years straight... when I chatted with him about it last week (as he was getting ready for this year), he didn’t seem to really even know who was playing... I guess ppl just buy tix for the “experience”?

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 21:19 (seven years ago)

at least that way you’re not going to get annoyed by clashes

blokes you can't rust (sic), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 21:21 (seven years ago)

Also, the LA Times devotes a massive amount of coverage to the festival, as if it’s generally accessible to Angelenos and relevant to their lives: https://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/coachella/

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 21:30 (seven years ago)

(Don’t read the review of Ariana’s set in there, btw, it’s fuckin’ dumb)

get your hand outta my pocket universe (morrisp), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 21:32 (seven years ago)

This was an incredible weekend, maybe the best in all the years I've gone. Thinking about going back for the second weekend.

DT, Tuesday, 16 April 2019 22:15 (seven years ago)

It’s almost a fact by now that almost everyone at Coachella are there fueled by social media and the music is just background noise. If you’re in there solely for the music there’s 10 other festivals nearby where you can see the same artists for 1/4 of the cost.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 16 April 2019 22:49 (seven years ago)

well, there obviously aren't, because of radius clauses. or on the other hand, it's a year since the festival and the new lineup of Soulwax haven't played the US outside of California.

Perfume is onn

abcfsk, Monday, 22 April 2019 07:11 (seven years ago)

That was emotional. Thank you Perfume for saving the world yet again.

now you can take a little peace of Chella home with you

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 25 April 2019 17:23 (seven years ago)

HerpAlert confirmed they’ve seen a wild increase in prescriptions to treat the STD, even as early as the first days of the festival.

... (Eazy), Thursday, 25 April 2019 18:35 (seven years ago)

Oops, I read that as HerpAlpert
