Are the breeders really not going to show up until the last 20? Or not at all?

Prole Art Threat was a late cut from my ballot when I realised I admired more than loved it...but I do admire it a great deal

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 08:41 (seven years ago)

I'm making a list of top ranked by each time, so far 1:50 to 1:59 looks like this for example

00:01:50 Built to Spill - Twin Falls 29
00:01:51 Ultramagnetic MCs - Traveling at the Speed of Thought (Remix) 31
00:01:52 John Lennon - Hold On 84

00:01:55 Buzzcocks - Love You More 28
00:01:56 The Clash - White Riot 50
00:01:57 The Fall - Prole Art Threat 21
00:01:58 Elvis Costello & the Attractions - No Action 34
00:01:59 Delfonics - Ready or Not Here I Come 56

...but there's a problem at the other end of the chart as some times have no nominations

00:00:01 Wehrmacht - E! Only one nominated
00:00:02 Napalm Death - You Suffer 92 #1
00:00:03 Sore Throat - Three Seconds Long Only one nominated
00:00:04 Limmy - Wrong Way Down A One Way Street #6
00:00:05 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:06 Brian Eno - The Microsoft Sound #7
00:00:07 Johnny Hawksworth - Thames Television ident theme, c.1968-90 #2
00:00:08 Joni Mitchell - I's a Muggin' Only one nominated
00:00:09 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:10 Descendents - Weinerschnitzel Only one nominated
00:00:11 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:12 Brakes - Cheney Only one nominated
00:00:13 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:14 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:15 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:16 ##NO NOMINATIONS##
00:00:17 (Multiple nominations)
00:00:18 Naked City - Blood Duster Only one nominated
00:00:19 Vernon Elliott - Clangers Running Around the Planet! Only one nominated
00:00:20 ##NO NOMINATIONS##

so if anyone has any suggestions for 0:05, 0:09, 0:11, 0:13, 0:14, 0:15, 0:16 or 0:20 then please let me know.

I am still laughing about this, and it has made me like the song.

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Friday, 12 April 2019 10:55 (seven years ago)

catching up: there's another version of bird's lament on sax pax for sax which is worth a listen, such a strange and great piece. are any of the riffs lifted straight from charlie parker? i don't know him well enough.

you cld have a whole thread abt tracks that sample the nightrider bassline, an ultra classic, likewise dr who.

allison always seemed like the perfect short rock song to me, intense&snappy, esp the unhinged solo. a shot of ultra concentrated energy, and then it's gone.

ogmor, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:13 (seven years ago)

getting ready for the final 20, woo!

planning on doing 20-11, then quickly do results of the "best <2 minutes artist", which won't take long, than the top 10 this afternoon

these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:39 (seven years ago)

nice thing here is that I don't think anyone really has any idea what's coming

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:41 (seven years ago)

aside from "Pay To Cum" of course ;)

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:41 (seven years ago)

probably three more clash songs

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:43 (seven years ago)

I hope not (and I love them)

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:44 (seven years ago)

I don't think anything else I voted for will place, but let it be known I very nearly voted for Hybrid Moments and will cheer if it places high

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:45 (seven years ago)

Oh, I voted for that Rihanna song actually, reckon that might make it

have the ramones showed up yet?

to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:48 (seven years ago)

I don't think so, good point.

a lot of these bands could have been done in by vote splitting - Misfits, Ramones, TMBG, but we'll see

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:49 (seven years ago)

(just did a quick search for EC's "No Action" and I think it runs 2:01 ... aw)

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:53 (seven years ago)

it placed earlier!

to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Friday, 12 April 2019 14:54 (seven years ago)

The overall punk/HC quotient in general has been a lot lower than I expected.

Would be surprised not to see 'Outdoor Miner' and 'Breaking Glass' in the top 20 (maybe even top 10).

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:54 (seven years ago)

would be surprised to see outdoor miner outside the top 3 tbh

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:55 (seven years ago)

Suspect there will be 2-3 Ramones, 1-2 Beatles, Wire, and GBV, and at least 1 Misfits.

Chris L, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:55 (seven years ago)

i didn't vote for outdoor miner fyi #pianoversionforever

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:55 (seven years ago)

it placed earlier!

Huh, must have missed it! So was it not the highest placing EC song?

Gonna be lots of oldies and punk I imagine/hope. And GBV.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 12 April 2019 14:56 (seven years ago)

No Action was #35, I would be surprised if anything from Get Happy beats it.

I voted pretty highly for Welcome To The Working Week, but I'm not hopeful

my #5

This alleged vote splitting has not hurt the Minutemen or the Clash, who have very deep catalogs and have appeared multiple times!

ebro the letter (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 12 April 2019 15:02 (seven years ago)

never really listened to Shadow, but that's a great image Karl

rob, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:02 (seven years ago)

in some ways, corny as hell; in others, a classic of its time

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:02 (seven years ago)

would be surprised to see outdoor miner outside the top 3 tbh

but the single version of Outdoor Miner is better (and is over 2 minutes)!

I think I voted for Hybrid Moments actually

Colonel Poo, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:04 (seven years ago)

lol I did say I preferred the single version too just afterwards

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:05 (seven years ago)

I didn't really consider Organ Donor as I prefer the remix.

Chris L, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:08 (seven years ago)

Starting to worry Rihanna may not show up here.

billstevejim, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:11 (seven years ago)

Yep, I assumed I'd be voting highly for Organ Donor but when I relistened it feels like an artifact. Ultimately didn't make my ballot.

Organ Donor was a late cut for me.

All y'all speculating about what's left are overlooking one biggie, I think. (at least I hope)

The Carjackers Quickly Dumped ILX Once They Saw What Was Inside (WmC), Friday, 12 April 2019 15:14 (seven years ago)

i think everyone's that is interested has found it already, but in case you're a newcomer to the thread, here is a link to the spotify playlist

imago, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:17 (seven years ago)

Expecting a Wire or Bowie to win but if Whitey On The Moon isnt top 10 I whitey riot.

nashwan, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:19 (seven years ago)

there are some really great songs here. makes me picture an alternate universe where the 45 RPM single is 6 inches instead of 7 and the average pop song length winds up being around 1:50 or so. what a wonderful world....

frogbs, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:19 (seven years ago)

Or LPs were the size and length of singles!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:20 (seven years ago)

There was room on my ballot for the likes of both GBV and GB of F.

Chris L, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:20 (seven years ago)

I think the Knight Rider theme is the only 77 second long track to place? Sad.

I think 1:59.9 with a recurring decimal mark over the last 9 is considered an equal amount of time as exactly 2:00.0 with a line over the zero. This emphasis was a good way to ensure that none of the recordings exceed 120 seconds, even by a small fraction of a second. Had the nominees accepted recordings labelled with a length of 2:00, the variance between 2:00.0 and 2:01.0 may not have been detected.

billstevejim, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:31 (seven years ago)

Was this discussed already? I am not a math person.

billstevejim, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:33 (seven years ago)

A song that hasn't been mentioned that I thought would do well is Final Day by Young Marble Giants. Really hope that's still to come.

kitchen person, Friday, 12 April 2019 15:38 (seven years ago)

wouldn't be surprised if it makes it
