catching up: there's another version of bird's lament on sax pax for sax which is worth a listen, such a strange and great piece. are any of the riffs lifted straight from charlie parker? i don't know him well enough.

you cld have a whole thread abt tracks that sample the nightrider bassline, an ultra classic, likewise dr who.

allison always seemed like the perfect short rock song to me, intense&snappy, esp the unhinged solo. a shot of ultra concentrated energy, and then it's gone.

getting ready for the final 20, woo!

planning on doing 20-11, then quickly do results of the "best <2 minutes artist", which won't take long, than the top 10 this afternoon

a lot of these bands could have been done in by vote splitting - Misfits, Ramones, TMBG, but we'll see

The overall punk/HC quotient in general has been a lot lower than I expected.

Would be surprised not to see 'Outdoor Miner' and 'Breaking Glass' in the top 20 (maybe even top 10).

This alleged vote splitting has not hurt the Minutemen or the Clash, who have very deep catalogs and have appeared multiple times!

never really listened to Shadow, but that's a great image Karl

in some ways, corny as hell; in others, a classic of its time

Yep, I assumed I'd be voting highly for Organ Donor but when I relistened it feels like an artifact. Ultimately didn't make my ballot.

there are some really great songs here. makes me picture an alternate universe where the 45 RPM single is 6 inches instead of 7 and the average pop song length winds up being around 1:50 or so. what a wonderful world....

I think 1:59.9 with a recurring decimal mark over the last 9 is considered an equal amount of time as exactly 2:00.0 with a line over the zero. This emphasis was a good way to ensure that none of the recordings exceed 120 seconds, even by a small fraction of a second. Had the nominees accepted recordings labelled with a length of 2:00, the variance between 2:00.0 and 2:01.0 may not have been detected.

Was this discussed already? I am not a math person.

A song that hasn't been mentioned that I thought would do well is Final Day by Young Marble Giants. Really hope that's still to come.
