I like the version Mr. Burns sang when he successfully blocked the sun.

iirc it is truly an A+ line reading on "power flowin'"

ooooh, i knew i recognized the cowbell from somewhere but couldn't place it!

these are not all of the possible side effects (Karl Malone), Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:21 (seven years ago)

it is a strong, confident cowbell. a cowbell with a mission

'twin falls' would be the peak of many, many indie bands' careers.

On a Good Day my #2. One of her many melodies that feels timeless in its simplicity, and refreshingly concise lyrics.

Joanna Newsom is an unbending Spotify holdout, see song here:

the lyrics of "On a Good Day" are beautiful and memorable. I think it's one of the great songs on Have One on Me

Dan S, Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:40 (seven years ago)

those guitars on twin falls are really crying arent they. werid to have a bts song in a short song playlist. always thought that song was missing a 3 minute guitar solo like their other songs. it just dies before it gets going. cool tho.

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:42 (seven years ago)

im not a fan of joanna newsom's music at all but got to admit that track is pretty lovely. does she have more subdued stuff like this?

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:44 (seven years ago)

twin falls in amongst my top ten, a sweet and poignant melody and story.

what if bod was one of us (ledge), Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:53 (seven years ago)

Catching up...yay Mitski! I love when she breaks what is usually an acceptable level of loud for an indie song. Crushed Little Stars was high in my ballot. It just lands so...crushingly.

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:53 (seven years ago)

xp a lot of Newsom's music feels subdued to me, although the songwriting has gotten way more complex since The Milk-Eyed Mender

Dan S, Thursday, 11 April 2019 17:55 (seven years ago)

aaaah mitski! i guess tihs means my #1 (other mitski surprise) isn't placing ubt thats ok. crushed little stars is SO good

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boot Edge Edge" (Will M.), Thursday, 11 April 2019 18:05 (seven years ago)

Not a wasted second in "Love You More". The sort of song that makes you wonder why anyone makes songs longer than 1:47.

Jeff W, Thursday, 11 April 2019 18:20 (seven years ago)

every buzzcocks song from that era is so catchy, it's almost unfair. 'love you more' is good, but when sandwiched between 'i don't mind' and 'ever fallen in love' on singles going steady, it's clear that it isn't quite on that level.

to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Thursday, 11 April 2019 18:22 (seven years ago)

oh dude, dumb move on my part not to think of it but was Yoko Kanno's "Green Bird" nominated? Dunno if I should hope for placement or not.

This post, and several others in recent days on this thread, reinforce my belief that this poll is one of the best things that has happened on ILX/ILM in a long time. Maybe I'm chastened by our daily Brexit shite, I'm most certainly deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a long-time close friend this week, but in this thread I see an openness, a capacity for reevaluation and a lack of the old ILM tribalism.

Thanks KM for giving your time to make this happen.
Thanks all out there for being there.

re: ulysses post, the joy of the nomination playlist is that whatever you hear it's only <2 mins of your life.

Fab!

Hurray also for Ultramagnetic MCs! That's... *counts* ...14 tracks from my ballot so far. I think. Though there's little to dislike anywhere here.

obviously a massive classic, and i don't know if i've ever seen an episode of dr who

even without the artificial points deflation, the points are prettttty tight for a lot of these results. that's why you gotta vote or die

voted for that scott walker. there's a handful of sweet simple (one, maybe two instruments) ballads in this countdown: dayton ohio, glory, the way i feel inside, love in mind, junk, the wind, desafinado, on our own again.

my #2 was one of these and i dont think it's gonna place :/
