I liked that song a lot too; I listened to the album it appears on for the first time last night. A little patchy but I will be revisitingEverything's Alright Forever is the only Boos album and only shoegaze album I really rate and it's all killer no filler imo.

"White Riot" was casualty of my self-imposed "max three songs per artist" rule, so I'm glad it made it.
― Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 18:48 (seven years ago)
Is this the 7" version or the LP version? On Discogs, the former is 1:58 and the latter 1.55. (I think the LP version is significantly better... but I didn't vote for it.)
― mike t-diva, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 18:57 (seven years ago)
this would be the LP version (listed as 1:56 on Spotify)

I voted Show Em Whatcha Got real high, top 5 for sure; it’s been my “get pumped the fuck up” song since the album came out.

Also, I didn’t vote for Show Em What You Got, but it’s more than just a filler track. It’s classic Bomb Squad, and it eventually inspired one of the best songs on Da Drought 3

my rule was one song per artist. ballots can become very lopsided otherwise. diversity is good
― imago, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 19:41 (seven years ago)
It's also the kind of rule that comes in handy when you have to make difficult cuts.

i think you're looking for the long songs poll
― to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 19:50 (seven years ago)
totes agree; that's why I self-imposed a rule on my ballot wherein I could vote only for one artist from each country AND no more than one artist per genre. not to brag but I do believe my ballot is the most diversest, most ethically pure, most best. it optimally represents not just my own personal taste in music songs no greater than 120 seconds, but also/simultaneously my idealized taste for everyone else too, on their behalf. so you're welcome
― del griffith, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 19:52 (seven years ago)
but, lemme guess, zodiac sign of artists means nothing to you
― Nick Chiveon (rip van wanko), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 20:14 (seven years ago)
I only voted for fire signs and artists with at least one member with their moon in libra. not because I arbitrarily chose this condition objectively, but rather because I can intuitively sense that these artists resonate most auspiciously within my own entirely subjective heart
― del griffith, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 20:26 (seven years ago)
Show Em Whatcha Got was my number one :)
― paolo, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 21:01 (seven years ago)
55. Public Enemy - Show 'Em Whatcha Got (1:56)
This should have been a photo of Eric Sadler and Hank Shocklee imo, not three people who aren't on the record. (ha xpost) I could not be more delighted to learn that Public Enemy's official youtube is called "Channel ZERO" though

ooh I don't think I even realized Desafinado was nominated, but I have been reading Caetano Veloso's autobiography and he talks quite a bit about this song and bossa nova at the beginning of the book
― Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 22:30 (seven years ago)
another classic
I just noticed there were over 2000 songs nominated!

w00t! I wondered how much support this could garner. Quite a bit, then!

― Jeff W, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 22:43 (seven years ago)
The Cat Stevens song is everything. Realised that about 30% of my ballot features in Wes Anderson films and there’s nothing I can do about that.
― alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 23:06 (seven years ago)
side q: i have caetano veloso's book and haven't read it -- would you recommend? it's just sitting there on my shelf but i have so many other things to read...
desafinado is such a good song, great melodymy 2nd group of students is giving their jazz presentations tomorrow and i think one of them chose joao gilberto!!
i haven't heard the cat stevens song! i do remember a song called "the wind" by a kids' musician named joe wise that scared the living daylights out of me as a kid

yay on The Boo Radleys making the cut. "Lazy Day" is such a great way to open an album, so short and sweet. i remember picking this up the day it was released and having so much anticipation on how it would sound, as i was a big fan of the previous three EPs. i also remember that the JAMC Honey's Dead came out the same day and of course i picked that up this same day.
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 23:23 (seven years ago)
I loved Tropical Trurth when I read it, but that was at least a decade ago. Also, fwiw, I was obsessed with Brazilian music at the time. An upside of reading it now would be easy access to other musician's work that he talks about. I remember trying to imagine what Jorge Ben's "Silencio No Brooklyn" sounded like based on Veloso's raves...it's probably streamable in 8 different ways now.
Automatically voted for Desafinado, though tbh I'm not sure what version we're really voting for here. The Clean were hard to narrow down, but I def voted for Beatnik

my moms favorite ever musician and song.
One of my dad's favorites, and one of the few commonalities in our musical tastes (another being, weirdly, Rihanna).
Cat's/Yusuf's voice is still great!
