does the (1) refer to a first place vote?
― Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:41 (seven years ago)
I can’t believe that someone made this and I’m very glad that they did. It is the pinnacle of songs being slightly off-sounding.
― alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:42 (seven years ago)
So yeah, this was my #1. It felt like a new musical language when I first heard it - a quivering, diaphanous, impossibly yearning creation hewn from mistake after bum note after folly - but the first run-through of the melody made me stop dead, and the second, more polyphonal run-through made me cry buckets. Somehow all of life is in this song

All the while there's this cosy, nostalgic, perfect piano humming away even as the horns embody the fragility of the human - uh, I mean anatid condition; it's just the loveliest thing
― imago, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:47 (seven years ago)
lovely song, i really hope something by the penguin cafe orchestra also places!

I'm really happy for those of you who, in discovering this, discovered life.

duck was a fun discovery from the voting thread, definitely the best thing that any combinations of the words "bill" and "maher" have ever done
― to halve and half not (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:51 (seven years ago)
Haven't heard 'Duck' before, but it sounds like a more discordant version of an instrumental Belle & Sebastian track, which is good? yes.
― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 15:52 (seven years ago)
Imago, have you listened to Maher Shalal Hash Baz's From A Summer To Another Summer yet? 'Duck' was getting all the discussion from the nominated short songs by MSHB but there are other (longer) songs by them that I love more.

I listened to Osaka Bridge and found myself loving the shorter tracks most! But I'll certainly check this out, thanks. They strike me as a group that relies on alchemy for their best work, meaning that they possess the ability to come out of nowhere with something ineffably perfect

i'm a little bummed out by the inclusion of the inferior fusion version of Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy" on the playlist; I assume it's a time issue?

A #1 vote for "Show 'Em Whatcha Got?"
I nominated "Ready or Not" but foolishly ended up cutting it from my ballot.
