This PUP gig was the apotheosis of London fans having been starved for so many months... The entire crowd was a hysterical mosh pit and PUP were deeply crowd pleasing and charming. They touted a London charity for assisting disadvantaged children into music schools that literally everyone gave money to. A small token, but the kind of offering that should be more foregrounded in gigs in general. Also they played an extra-long set to be nice. My voice is totally shredded.

that sounds awesome. I'm so glad they're having a moment, they seem like genuine folks

idk if this new J Robbins single quite belongs here but it's real nice!

I saw them last night and they humoured my drunk rambling afterwards. They were great! Supporting Martha who were so exuberant and lovely.

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 12:56 (five years ago) link

ah awesome, was there as well!

devvvine, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 13:03 (five years ago) link

No way! I didn’t know you were a London poster. Will say hi next time if we are at the same gig. :)

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 13:08 (five years ago) link

Wait a second, the Martha album's been out for two weeks already?

jmm, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:14 (five years ago) link

yeah! it's good!

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:20 (five years ago) link

just bought foxing tickets for the end of the month -- feeling pretty excited :D

the PUP show is either the next day or the day before but it's sold out :(

Mordy, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:34 (five years ago) link

somehow only just learned PUP is an acronym

Simon H., Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:36 (five years ago) link

Lol yeah I had that same realisation.

Aaw Mordy, I’m sure they’ll do some more dates at some point. They said they’ve just started touring for two years or something crazy.

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:39 (five years ago) link

yeah i think they're actually coming back to philly later in the year

Mordy, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 20:40 (five years ago) link

oh wow that Martha record *is* great, on the jangle/twee end of the emo spectrum and so, so charming

also want to plug the new Mannequin Pussy single which is fucking great

new get up kids album is shaping up to be a banger

Opening sounds like Reggie tbh

I want to change my display name (dan m), Wednesday, 1 May 2019 01:12 (five years ago) link

it pains me that Drug Church are playing here but only as fourth-billed(!) on the Movements gig. I'm listening to their album now and there's nothing special about it.

new Bad Books album, two tracks out

Simon H., Thursday, 2 May 2019 18:15 (five years ago) link

congratulations to the get up kids for releasing an incredible album in 2019

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 10 May 2019 15:01 (five years ago) link

agreed. played through once so far and have been loving it. I still think I like the Radar State album a bit more

gman59, Friday, 10 May 2019 17:36 (five years ago) link

Seeing Spanish Love Songs tonight! I had forgotten how great their album from last year is.

alrakis morissette (tangenttangent), Saturday, 11 May 2019 20:08 (five years ago) link

The first support - Save Face - were excellent. Like so energetic and positive. Checking out their 2018 album now and it holds up.

The Radar State album has grown to be one of my favourites this year, but I am yet to hear new Get Up Kids. Waiting for a sunny day.

Simon H., Thursday, 23 May 2019 16:23 (five years ago) link

dude the moment @ 2:35ish of that Oso Oso song gave me chills

alpine static, Thursday, 23 May 2019 17:09 (five years ago) link

oh they played that new appleseed cast song during their set and it was a huge highlight. i love it. there's definitely going to be a song on the record that splits the difference between post-hardcore and motorik

american bradass (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 May 2019 17:25 (five years ago) link

immense tune. the Oso Oso is nice as well.

new Bad Books is out and, of course, lovely. a lot of textures in common with the last Manchester Orchestra (to the extent that I'm wondering if they shared a producer)

Simon H., Saturday, 15 June 2019 14:41 (four years ago) link

hey uh who here likes prog

Evan, Monday, 24 June 2019 15:04 (four years ago) link

their last album was sick and "Drunk II" is fantastic. looking forward to this

Simon H., Monday, 24 June 2019 15:16 (four years ago) link

soundcloud compression is brutal but this is the new appleseed cast track that blew my mind when i saw them: https://soundcloud.com/graveface/the-appleseed-cast-the-journey

motorik emo (motoremo?) is here

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 17:27 (four years ago) link

oh jeez obviously "emotorik" is a thousand times better

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 26 June 2019 17:28 (four years ago) link

oh that Mannequin Pussy album really really rules

my favorite band microwave are putting out a new record on september 13th called death is a warm blanket

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBhz1c-UonY

i have already heard the record. it's their best. would readily compare it to some canonical br*nd n*w lps

american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 2 August 2019 23:10 (four years ago) link

https://hunnytheband.bandcamp.com/album/yes-yes-yes-yes-yes

(also released by epitaph apparently)

these rock children seem quite callow and exactly zero percent of the music seems original yet i find that that does not matter AT ALL at the moment
