Taylor Swift’s new single is reportedly titled "ME!" and it is a collaboration with Brendon Urie from Panic! At The Disco. pic.twitter.com/gSRtUiGbOt— Pop Alarms 🚨 (@PopAlarms) April 25, 2019

also the wes anderson thing turned out to be a rumour
― monotony, Friday, 26 April 2019 04:11 (seven years ago)
I hope this is a non-album single.
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Friday, 26 April 2019 04:12 (seven years ago)
I watched the 'premiere.' video was ok, missed that wes anderson directed it, didn't seem like it. bizarre color palette - sugar overload/cake flavored ice cream aesthetic? I was with the song until the chorus, more anonymous new muzak. is this for a kids movie?
― flappy bird, Friday, 26 April 2019 04:16 (seven years ago)
i like it. also it totally makes sense given she’s in CATS
― maura, Friday, 26 April 2019 04:16 (seven years ago)
sorry about spreading the rumor. i shoulda known
― maura, Friday, 26 April 2019 04:17 (seven years ago)
this is worse than "look what you made me do" which still isn't good but was at least a bit endearing in a "what the hell is she trying to do" way

^^
― J0rdan S., Friday, 26 April 2019 04:39 (seven years ago)
the good news is that since 'red' her lead singles have pretty much uniformly been some of the worst songs on her albums
― J0rdan S., Friday, 26 April 2019 04:41 (seven years ago)
or beginning with 'red' i should say
otm i liked LWYMMD, this is stunningly sterile millennial whoop shit
― flappy bird, Friday, 26 April 2019 04:47 (seven years ago)
"Spelling is fun" and you "can't spell awesome without me" is abominable, condescending. Terrible choices. That said, I still kind of like this somehow and it's bound to be a huge inescapable hit in the same vein as Can't Stop The Feeling. Fun and lighthearted works better for her than the dark me vs. the world Taylor.
The overall immediate reaction seems pretty mixed to negative, though. One of the surprising things to me about the initial reaction to this is how much people seemingly ended up coming around on reputation.
― triggercut, Friday, 26 April 2019 04:49 (seven years ago)
I never came around on Reputation -- save a few cuts -- and this song feels even more forced.

is this for a kids movie?
Yes, it's called "Summer," and it will be opening everywhere.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2019 11:38 (seven years ago)
"hey kids! spelling is fun!" is such a bafflingly terrible moment
― ufo, Friday, 26 April 2019 11:57 (seven years ago)
hoo boy this is gonna be omnipresent
― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 26 April 2019 12:05 (seven years ago)
anyway i'm predicting the album is called chrysalis
I hated We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, Shake It Off, and Look What You Made Me Do for a long time when they first came out, so I'm going to reserve my judgement until I hear a birthday party full of 8-year-olds trying to sing along to it this summer. I don't think it's terrible, although there are some parts I don't like ("there's a lot of lame guys out there" stands out). The video (and particularly Brandon Urie's dumb face) makes me want to put my head through a wall, although the melting dress at the end is a good kind of nightmare fuel, imo.
Anyway, is someone going to make a new thread?

She has a habit of squeezing really clunky slogans into lyrics, doesn't she? Anyway, this reminds me of, like, Sara Bareilles. Harmless enough. How long until Taylor Swift is on Broadway?
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2019 12:22 (seven years ago)
Srsly, what was the point of that?
― All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 26 April 2019 12:30 (seven years ago)
Maybe (plus the colors) a loose nod to Umbrellas of Cherbourg?
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2019 12:31 (seven years ago)
New world to me, but the comparisons hold up:
Taylor Swift's new Jojo-Siwa-lite aesthetic is really depressing me. Surely she can get a #1 without luring iPad-addicted children to her content?? I just feel bad for the parents who will have to endure this song at school drop-offs and talent shows for years to come pic.twitter.com/fUa3HygiBs— Molly Mulshine (@mollymulshine) April 26, 2019

Have you ever heard of country music? It is a style of music that Taylor Swift played prior to recording that song. ;)
― ☮ (peace, man), Friday, 26 April 2019 12:46 (seven years ago)
Was it like that "Old Town Road" song?
― We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Friday, 26 April 2019 13:08 (seven years ago)
Hot takes from my daughters, aka the target demo:
14-year old "Panic!" fan: this is OK.
11-year old theatre kid: "Is this for 2-year olds?" Shortly afterward she started singing "Fight Song," but I have heard her walking around ironically singing "you can't spell US without ME!" So: mission accomplished?
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2019 13:11 (seven years ago)
The only thing Demy-like about this is that it's as unbearably wtf awful as his last one, the one where Yves Montand plays himself and fucks his own daughter. But I guess Brendon Urie is too young for that to be the twist.
― Frederik B, Friday, 26 April 2019 13:23 (seven years ago)
Why do I already feel like I've heard this chorus a hundred times?

lmao oh my god this is so embarrassing, it's literally called "ME!" and the whole song is just like "I'm NoT lIkE oThEr GiRlS", great to see she sure has matured and evolved a lot over the last decade!!!!
― vision joanna newsom (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 26 April 2019 13:46 (seven years ago)
ahah, yeah that french speaking intro is wtf !and the whole thing is hideous in every aspects...but I suppose her fanbase will love it since it's hooks-a-gogo.
