Can we have another week to get votes in?
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 18:35 (seven years ago)
i could be convinced, but it would help to know that their are others out there who could use the extra time.
right now we're sitting at about 35 ballots, which is pretty good. but this is supposed to be the companion poll to lee's 10 minutes+ poll, which had 58 ballots. so it would be nice if we had a comparable number of ballots, especially given that everyone took the time to submit 17 billion nominations. i might go through the nominations thread today and see who nominated a bunch of songs but hasn't voted yet, and then send them a singing telegram informing them to vote or die

Please don’t drag this out longer
― ebro the letter (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 30 March 2019 18:47 (seven years ago)
it's true, extending the deadline would seem to be contrary to the spirit of the poll
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 30 March 2019 18:52 (seven years ago)
I would use an extra week to procrastinate, not do any useful listening, and wind up with the same ballot that I'd produce by tomorrow night.
― 16 Historic English ILXors You Must Explore Soon (WmC), Saturday, 30 March 2019 19:26 (seven years ago)
Voting for no-extension...The longer any poll goes on--or at least the longer it goes on past the moment of peak interest--the more that interest wanes.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 19:42 (seven years ago)
More ballots getting submitted means more people with a stake in the results. You trippin clemenza
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:00 (seven years ago)
Not at all. Maybe you get 3 or 4 extra ballots, while simultaneously the 35 people who have already voted are steadily losing interest; I know I do, and I bet I'm not the only one.
The deadline was posted three or four weeks ago, with a very sensible suggestion that the fate of the world did not hinge upon the results and that it wasn't necessary to hear every single song before voting.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:05 (seven years ago)
I expect nothing less than quick voters being impatient and having the ability to lose interest quickly though. I should be jealous of people that have the ability to get real excited about things though.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:06 (seven years ago)
You've convinced me. Let's extend the deadline to July; there are under-2:00 songs being released as we type, and we need to hear those too.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:07 (seven years ago)
Sorry--general frustration. We go through this with the ILX film poll too, with people wanting to push back the poll until they're able to see everything (so we do it in the summer now). I just find the whole nomination-discussion-results cycle of every ILX/ILM poll takes forever.
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:11 (seven years ago)
Nahh. Keep things the way they are. It doesn't matter to me if I don't submit a ballot since I had fun making that youtube playlist. That’s my baby. Not the results.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:11 (seven years ago)
I have managed to make all 300+ songs transition nicely so far. I have been reuploading youtubes just to make less severe volume change between songs. I have reached a punk/metal/noise block in the playlist and I look forward to syncing those songs together as I finish the playlist.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:15 (seven years ago)
flopsy can you can just submit an unranked ballot of your fave songs from your youtube playlist? or something
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:17 (seven years ago)
(xpost) That's it; what you get out of these things, to me, has little or nothing to do with the results or how comprehensive your ballot is. I'm sure your playlist helped lots of people fill in gaps. For me, the fun is in putting my ballot together from what I already know, plus the first couple of weeks of discussion. When the results are posted, I may listen to any high-placing songs I don't know (I'm more inclined to seek out high-placing films I haven't seen).
― clemenza, Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:20 (seven years ago)
I can probably hastily throw something together tomorrow. Saturdays are for lying in bed til dinner.
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:20 (seven years ago)
Karl, please post the youtube playlist next to the spotify playlist at the top of the results thread. Thanks
― plastered in paris (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 30 March 2019 20:25 (seven years ago)
Can you just use my nomination list on the other thread as my ballot? I have no time to engage this any further but thought about my noms at that time.
― L'assie (Euler), Saturday, 30 March 2019 21:06 (seven years ago)
Ballet submitted.
― that's not my post, Saturday, 30 March 2019 21:34 (seven years ago)
XXXP: Hehe, I thought about nominating Smudge, Sneeze, et al, but Aus stuff so often arouses limited interest. (Though "Into Your Arms" was there.) Nice to see them acknowledged, sic.
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Saturday, 30 March 2019 22:32 (seven years ago)
i have absolutely no idea which songs are doing better than others (haven't put them into a spreadsheet yet or looked closely at any ballot), but let me try to give a final weekend boost to Scott Walker's "On Your Own Again", which is top 5 for me
― Karl Malone, Saturday, 30 March 2019 23:35 (seven years ago)
Just preparing ballot now, and have noticed that the Cleftones - 'Heart and Soul' is duplicated on the nominations list

Voting for non-extension also.

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and a little voice whispers "ooh my soul"

Voted late, but voted.

VOTED
― nashwan, Sunday, 31 March 2019 11:45 (seven years ago)
i will submit my ballot today but i think a small extension of a day or something like that would be ok if that would generate more ballots. i don't remember a poll with a totally fixed deadline.
― Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Sunday, 31 March 2019 12:10 (seven years ago)
Submitted!
― lingereffect (Kent Burt), Sunday, 31 March 2019 12:40 (seven years ago)
ok ignore my last note (I mean that was going to happen anyway), I managed to find a little time to vote. I hope Guided By Voices gets shut out, I mean I like them but c'mon.
― L'assie (Euler), Sunday, 31 March 2019 13:55 (seven years ago)
I'm getting there!
― emil.y, Sunday, 31 March 2019 15:08 (seven years ago)
lol is this deadline on Chicago time Karl? I can be done by 9 PM if so.
― Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Sunday, 31 March 2019 15:12 (seven years ago)
Surely it’s ‘wherever in the world it’s still the 31st’?
― dorsalstop, Sunday, 31 March 2019 15:37 (seven years ago)
Thank you hawaii!
― alomar lines, Sunday, 31 March 2019 15:41 (seven years ago)
yep!
(and tbh, don't tell anyone but there's no way i'm working on any of these ballots until 6pm (Chicago/EST) on Monday (which, unfortunately, is April Fools day, so now it'll be left in doubt whether this is all a joke), so if get your votes in by then you'll be fine. but definitely try to get them in by Hawaii Midnight if you can)
― Karl Malone, Sunday, 31 March 2019 15:55 (seven years ago)
This last round of cuts is TORTURE. I was doing okay until I got to 55, now I feel like I'm killing my babies.
― emil.y, Sunday, 31 March 2019 16:02 (seven years ago)
*evil laugh*
― Karl Malone, Sunday, 31 March 2019 16:03 (seven years ago)
we're up to 45 ballots btw! with emil.y, sleeve, and alex in mainhattan's, plus my own, plus a mystery voter that i choose to believe in and that you cannot disprove, that brings us to 50
― Karl Malone, Sunday, 31 March 2019 16:05 (seven years ago)
I'll get mine in later today.
― 16 Historic English ILXors You Must Explore Soon (WmC), Sunday, 31 March 2019 16:11 (seven years ago)
I'm just so thankful for the under 30 seconds side poll, because that meant I could cut those from my main ballot and keep them for their own category (though I did really want to see 'You Suffer' in the main poll). Up until now I forgot about the artist side poll, and also failed to write down non-nominated songs as I remembered them, so might only have one for that (it's a definite big one for me personally, though).

oh, there's a non-spotify playlist? cool, it's far too late for me to vote but i will check out the youtube playlist at least!
― Jaki Liebowitz (rushomancy), Sunday, 31 March 2019 17:00 (seven years ago)
dangit rushomancy, it's not far too late to vote!
just do an unranked ballot, 20 of your faves or whatever! vote or die! don't die!
― Karl Malone, Sunday, 31 March 2019 17:06 (seven years ago)
sorry, i just can't do it! do a poll of favorite songs that are exactly 2:00 long and maybe i can do it. :) glad to see the kenny process team got nominated, though! i've loved "mouse in the hole" for ages.
