Can we have another week to get votes in?

i could be convinced, but it would help to know that their are others out there who could use the extra time.

right now we're sitting at about 35 ballots, which is pretty good. but this is supposed to be the companion poll to lee's 10 minutes+ poll, which had 58 ballots. so it would be nice if we had a comparable number of ballots, especially given that everyone took the time to submit 17 billion nominations. i might go through the nominations thread today and see who nominated a bunch of songs but hasn't voted yet, and then send them a singing telegram informing them to vote or die

it's true, extending the deadline would seem to be contrary to the spirit of the poll

I would use an extra week to procrastinate, not do any useful listening, and wind up with the same ballot that I'd produce by tomorrow night.

Voting for no-extension...The longer any poll goes on--or at least the longer it goes on past the moment of peak interest--the more that interest wanes.

More ballots getting submitted means more people with a stake in the results. You trippin clemenza

Not at all. Maybe you get 3 or 4 extra ballots, while simultaneously the 35 people who have already voted are steadily losing interest; I know I do, and I bet I'm not the only one.

The deadline was posted three or four weeks ago, with a very sensible suggestion that the fate of the world did not hinge upon the results and that it wasn't necessary to hear every single song before voting.

I expect nothing less than quick voters being impatient and having the ability to lose interest quickly though. I should be jealous of people that have the ability to get real excited about things though.

You've convinced me. Let's extend the deadline to July; there are under-2:00 songs being released as we type, and we need to hear those too.

Sorry--general frustration. We go through this with the ILX film poll too, with people wanting to push back the poll until they're able to see everything (so we do it in the summer now). I just find the whole nomination-discussion-results cycle of every ILX/ILM poll takes forever.

Nahh. Keep things the way they are. It doesn't matter to me if I don't submit a ballot since I had fun making that youtube playlist. That’s my baby. Not the results.

I have managed to make all 300+ songs transition nicely so far. I have been reuploading youtubes just to make less severe volume change between songs. I have reached a punk/metal/noise block in the playlist and I look forward to syncing those songs together as I finish the playlist.

flopsy can you can just submit an unranked ballot of your fave songs from your youtube playlist? or something

(xpost) That's it; what you get out of these things, to me, has little or nothing to do with the results or how comprehensive your ballot is. I'm sure your playlist helped lots of people fill in gaps. For me, the fun is in putting my ballot together from what I already know, plus the first couple of weeks of discussion. When the results are posted, I may listen to any high-placing songs I don't know (I'm more inclined to seek out high-placing films I haven't seen).

I can probably hastily throw something together tomorrow. Saturdays are for lying in bed til dinner.

i have absolutely no idea which songs are doing better than others (haven't put them into a spreadsheet yet or looked closely at any ballot), but let me try to give a final weekend boost to Scott Walker's "On Your Own Again", which is top 5 for me

(and tbh, don't tell anyone but there's no way i'm working on any of these ballots until 6pm (Chicago/EST) on Monday (which, unfortunately, is April Fools day, so now it'll be left in doubt whether this is all a joke), so if get your votes in by then you'll be fine. but definitely try to get them in by Hawaii Midnight if you can)

This last round of cuts is TORTURE. I was doing okay until I got to 55, now I feel like I'm killing my babies.

I'm just so thankful for the under 30 seconds side poll, because that meant I could cut those from my main ballot and keep them for their own category (though I did really want to see 'You Suffer' in the main poll). Up until now I forgot about the artist side poll, and also failed to write down non-nominated songs as I remembered them, so might only have one for that (it's a definite big one for me personally, though).
