Yeah, the thin guy from Three Six Mafia was wearing an Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt on Mind of Mencia when I was flipping through the channels.

Yeah, that dude from Three 6 Mafia is always rocking a different black band t-shirt. I was watching an episode of HollyHood this weekend and he had on Nirvana, Green Day, and a Ramones tee at different points.

Chuck Schuldiner from Death in a Blondie shirt. No doubt his stylist made him wear it.

Did anyone catch that Blondie / Siege / Pestilence triple bill?

NYCNative, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

i don't really get this thread...don't musicians all like music that doesn't necessarily sound like the music they play?

also, it's absolutely like not surprising at all that 3-5 mafia would dig metal

M@tt He1ges0n, Tuesday, 17 April 2007 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

"don't musicians all like music that doesn't necessarily sound like the music they play?"

Possibly. But they don't all wear the shirts. I think we have established (with minor exceptions) that this thread is not being judgemental about this practise. We're just posting pictures okay?

I think it's a sex code thing more than an overt statement of affiliation with any particular band/ genre. It's like they're saying, "Although my public/ performance personna is consistently this one thing, this t-shirt is indicative of what'd it be like to have sex with me." At least that's how I interpret that Durst photo, and the Duff one, too.

"Although my public/ performance personna is consistently this one thing, this t-shirt is indicative of what'd it be like to have sex with me." At least that's how I interpret that Durst photo, and the Duff one, too.

So Durst has sex like a Smiths fan and Duff loves like Motorhead.

Classic post.

I can't seem to find a freeze frame anywhere, but my favorite mismatch is the Public Enemy t-shirt on Donnie Wahlberg in the New Kids on the Block "Step by Step" video:

i always thought it would be funny if some trendy new act wore the shirts of really naff bands like sublime or hoobastank.

max arrrrrgh, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 18:02 (fifteen years ago)

hate this q so much

surprise, very few musicians only want to rep for music that sounds like what they do. because, shocker, musicians like lots of different kinds of music. WOW INCREDIBLE THEY MUST BE POSING BY WEARING SHIRTS FOR BANDS THAT DON'T SOUND LIKE WHAT THEY DO.

No one said anything about "posing" -- I thought this was just a thread for pictures of musicians in other bands' shirts.

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 18:15 (fifteen years ago)

yeah I know it's just it always feels like this implicit "no way Avril likes the Ramones, after all she sucks!" vibe (we had a huge throwdown about that way back) and while I am a little sympathetic to the position "a person should only wear a band/musician t-shirt if they actually like that band/musician" I am deeply unsympathetic to the position "a person whose music I hate couldn't love music I like, it is at the least very unlikely"

there are explicit refutations of that position you hate in this thread, aero, not least from its creator.

i mean PE in minor threat tees is just the sort of pluralism that i find cool in visual representation, but no u gotta go rail against something

two examples from this thread

This thread would be a lot more fun if it it was less "LOL FAMOUS PERSON DOESN'T KNOW AS MUCH ABOUT BAND AS ME BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO BUSY BEING FAMOUS" and was more "Hey, isn't this neat?"

We're all adults, the fact that one of the jocks likes your favorite band should have stopped bothering you, like, freshman year of college.

ok I can understand that but I have no idea why you would rep for durst when he wouldn't even give you a call on father's day
