lmao hell yes

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Friday, 1 March 2019 21:22 (seven years ago)

i love that idea but i'm guessing only 4 people will actually do it

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 21:24 (seven years ago)

wait would they have to draw it like, after the song is announced, or beforehand?

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Friday, 1 March 2019 21:26 (seven years ago)

Whoever is coordinating the art would send like the names of five songs that made the list to each “artist” and they take 10 minutes and send em back

ebro the letter (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 1 March 2019 21:27 (seven years ago)

If someone (not me) wants to volunteer to do the coordinating/sizing/uploading, I’ll def draw some. I bet we could get at least 10 people who would draw 10 2-minute drawings, easily

ebro the letter (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 1 March 2019 21:30 (seven years ago)

Hey I can draw a ton of stick figures in 2 minutes!

Also, everyone should submit drawings for art that they have to do in less than 2 minutes

a variation on this idea: however long the song is, that's how long you have to draw

Karl Malone, Friday, 1 March 2019 23:25 (seven years ago)

The accompanying image's filesize has to be equivalent in kilobytes to the track time.

imago, Saturday, 2 March 2019 00:37 (seven years ago)

i'm not pissed off, i'm not mad, i don't think you're doing anything wrong. not doing spotify is my decision. it's not a criticism but an explanation of why i'm _choosing_ not to participate as fully as i would like. that's on me. not you.

So who's going to host a torrent of all the noms? And also order them in a sequence that flows nicely

٩༼ º෴º ༽۶ (FlopsyDuck), Saturday, 2 March 2019 03:02 (seven years ago)

I might be able to help with images depending on timing

but I can't let Trae do it I got Huerter on my mind (Spottie), Saturday, 2 March 2019 03:17 (seven years ago)

this poll is going to be epic

THIS IS NOT AN EPICS POLL ahem sorry, old habits.

Gaseous Clay (Leee), Saturday, 2 March 2019 03:35 (seven years ago)

Also, everyone should submit drawings for art that they have to do in less than 2 minutes

Feel like Whiney is taking the piss and also I cannot draw anything given 2 days, but I would participate in this if it didn't make KM's life harder trying to herd us all.

emil.y, Saturday, 2 March 2019 03:40 (seven years ago)

i'll have to think about it. tbh, i also like just making new images, which also takes a ton of time, and despite many kind words i'm sure the result images were not everyone's cup of tea. i made custom ones for each song for the b-52s poll, but that was relatively easy because i used the album covers as the template for each song. i'm not sure what i would do for this one. but i kind of like the challenge of figuring it all out and making a cohesive set of images. on the other hand, i really like the idea of a bunch of people submitting images because participatory projects are just so much fun, and people tend to get more excited about things when they played an active role in some way.

anyway, plenty of time to think about it

Karl Malone, Saturday, 2 March 2019 03:54 (seven years ago)

that whole paragraph is a fucking mess, sorry.

Karl Malone, Saturday, 2 March 2019 03:55 (seven years ago)

I do think that it would be super fun, but honestly, trying to herd people is the worst. I think it'd actually be easier on you to do it on your own.

Also, please don't worry about trying to please everyone with everything, ilx is full of people who enjoy getting cranky (hi) and it genuinely isn't because you've done anything wrong. <3

emil.y, Saturday, 2 March 2019 04:01 (seven years ago)

The Loud Family - Sword Swallower (1:45)

would do this for all the songs that place tbh

budo jeru, Saturday, 2 March 2019 05:08 (seven years ago)

xp thank you emily - it is in my nature to try to please everyone + to feel overly defensive about criticism. it's bad. trying not to do that so much but when i drink i regress.

if we do end up doing the drawing idea i think minutemen songs should get the obvious time limit

Karl Malone, Saturday, 2 March 2019 05:11 (seven years ago)

i still reserve the right as ultimate pollmaster for this poll to totally change my mind and do it my own way and piss everyone off though, sorry

Karl Malone, Saturday, 2 March 2019 05:12 (seven years ago)

fair

alomar lines, Saturday, 2 March 2019 07:44 (seven years ago)

happy to do some two minute drawings but i will need three months to think about each one first

goats eat grandma (NickB), Saturday, 2 March 2019 09:09 (seven years ago)

Final nominations!

Dominique Leone - Those Productive Millennials (1:25)
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - All White (1:50)

imago, Saturday, 2 March 2019 19:32 (seven years ago)

Oh man, All White! Definitely getting a vote from me. Good late nom

Hey hey, the tipple’s weak sherry (fionnland), Saturday, 2 March 2019 19:52 (seven years ago)

the nomination process is officially over!

and yet, i am abusing my power to add one final nominee (and to close the opposite-of-epic playlist):

The Vaselines - Dum-Dum (1:57)

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 05:03 (seven years ago)

still working on adding in nominations. i promise not to take for fucking 'ever, but it will take a couple days. then i'll open up the voting/campaign thread. early next week, promise!

is this the most ever nominees for a poll? i'm not sure that's an "achievement", exactly, but it would be something

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 05:06 (seven years ago)

I feel like whoever is brave enough for an end of 10’s decade poll will have to deal with twice the nominations of this poll unless it’s limited to 30 noms per person.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 3 March 2019 05:12 (seven years ago)

if i could turn back time to the beginning of this thread, i definitely would have put a limit of 30 or 40 per person

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 05:35 (seven years ago)

but first i would probably turn back time to other moments that were more consequential for the rest of humanity and attempt to make some changes

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 05:36 (seven years ago)

as i continue through the thread, i'll list the songs i have to kick off. for those who missed my mid-thread post, i'm using spotify as the arbitrator of song length, just to have some sort of concrete judge.

X - we're desperate (there are several versions on spotify, all at 2 or above. just missed it by a second or two. sorry)
Solomon Burke - Got to Get You Off My Mind (almost all the versions on spotify are 2:36. there's an edit that's 1:57 on one release (soul clan), but it doesn't seem right to include it)

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 06:07 (seven years ago)

it pains me to remove this, but almost every version of it is over 2 minutes, except for some obscure choral renditions

henry mancini - pink panther theme

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 06:27 (seven years ago)

teenage fanclub - what you do to me
2:01 on spotify

Karl Malone, Sunday, 3 March 2019 06:33 (seven years ago)

Slide the pitch control to +1 on your turntable, it’ll sound basically the same but will have a run time of 1:59, problem sorted

kolarov spring (NickB), Sunday, 3 March 2019 10:55 (seven years ago)

It's 1:59 on the 4,766 Seconds compilation. But if consensus is the original is too long that's fine.

Dan Worsley, Sunday, 3 March 2019 11:05 (seven years ago)

on a related note, i am angry that somehow the batman theme is longer than 2 minutes

way late here (and past the deadline), but:

Link Wray and His Ray Men - Batman Theme (1:55)
The Who - Batman Theme (1:21)
The Jam - Batman Theme (1:30)

(and also, The Mekons - 32 Weeks (1:38))

by the light of the burning Citroën, Monday, 4 March 2019 20:25 (seven years ago)

Also prob too late, not mad if it doesn't stick, but

Dennis Challen Brown & Chuck Lorre - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme (1:28)

(yes, that chuck lorre!)

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Monday, 4 March 2019 20:41 (seven years ago)

I can't read, let's try that again

Miles Doppler - Heroes In A Half Shell (1:28)

per the wikipedia -- The soundtrack was composed by Dennis Challen Brown (credited as "D.C. Brown" and later as "Dennis C. Brown") and Chuck Lorre. Lorre recorded the theme song (and performed the spoken parts) and became a successful television producer. The performer of the song was James Mandell (aka Miles Doppler).[21] To date the soundtrack has never been released for retail.

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Monday, 4 March 2019 20:44 (seven years ago)

mookie i had to remove hot snakes (mystery boy) and elvis costello (no action), at 2:00 and 2:01 on spotify, respectively. rules chaotically settled upon halfway through a process are rules
