It hurts to bypass Zuckerzeit and On The Beach, but this is Warm Jets for me.

Big Star over Autobahn. I listened to a lot of the 'most acclaimed albums of 1974' recently, and one that surprised me positively was Late For The Sky by Jackson Browne

i assume their list is a bit different to mine?

Yes - acclaimed music.net I think, one of those list aggregators - two in their top 20 that are missing from yours are Kimono My House and Late For The Sky, that's why I mentioned it.

Late For The Sky first side is one of the most fantastic, depressing, intense, insular sides of any singer/songwriter record. its the real shit. falls apart a bit on side 2.... but damn i've listened to side 1 soooo many times.

the opener got used in taxi driver of course. amazing album opener.

But side 2 has "Before the Deluge!" Amazing album closer.

there are few albums as singular, as beautiful, as mysterious as “rock bottom” — i don’t know anything that sounds quite like it.

it also achieves an emotional depth that, before hearing it, i didn’t realize was possible in “rock” music.

plus ivor cutler, i mean c’mon.

a very important album for me. so it’s robert wyatt this year.

On the Beach and Taking Tiger Mountain are extremely perfect rock Albums as well imo

can never understand why that ragtag bunch of demos and neat ideas has so much more critical cachet than the ensuing full-bore rock masterpiece but I guess that's opinions eh!!!

you can say what you want about HCTWJ but they aren't "ragtag demos"

Here Come the Warm Jets was recorded in twelve days at Majestic Studios in London during September 1973 by recording engineer Derek Chandler.

After recording the individual tracks, Eno condensed and mixed the instrumentation deeply, resulting in some of the tracks bearing little resemblance to what the musicians recorded during the session.
