I will say, while I agree with the sentiment, that Atom and His Package song is remarkably bad

ebro the letter (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 20 February 2019 23:39 (seven years ago)

I hope Karl keeps updating the Spotify playlist, it's fun to tear through

oh, i'm definitely going to. as i add the nominations to the spreadsheet, i also put them on spotify. only takes an extra second or two.

what do we do with versions of songs which are under two minutes whereas the original is not?

if it's under 2 minutes, it qualifies, but on the nominations list i will specify that it's a remix or acapella version or whatever. just make sure it's actually a song that you will likely vote for and might get more than one vote in the end.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 20 February 2019 23:49 (seven years ago)

I'm sad that the Taxi Driver main title theme is :18 too long.

The Cure - Subway Song (1:58)

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 20 February 2019 23:57 (seven years ago)

I’m up to the Chuck Berry block in the playlist and so far I haven’t hated anything. But then again, I nominated Atom.

Yup, I sought this out to nominate and was similarly disappointed.

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:23 (seven years ago)

i'm back at it, updating. lil' note: someone nominated the gothic archies' "the dead only quickly". it's credited to the 6ths, so i changed it

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:31 (seven years ago)

by the way, for those out there who nominated more than 3 tracks by the same artist - if you want to help out, you can just go back to what you nominated and choose 3 only three tracks and let me know. otherwise, i'll compile a list at the end and pester people individually

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:33 (seven years ago)

that's not my post, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:43 (seven years ago)

if it helps to address the Too Many Songs! concerns, which i can understand, i can comb through the list later and look for people who nominated more than one song by the same artist and ask them to revise their nominations!

seriously, i don't mind doing it, and it would cut down the nominations quite a bit and emphasize just the best stuff.

what do you all think? if it's a good idea let me know and i can ask an all-powerful gmod to edit the first post to include that rule as the number #1 Q&A

― Karl Malone

i mean if you want to go through all that work you can but the "too many artists" record will remain. also the fact that no matter how long the nominee list is it's inevitably going to wind up as arbitrary and incomplete. because as soon as the nominations are finished it'll be, you know, what about "sometimes" by key (1:47) or insanity by l-seven (not to be confused with L7, 1:41)?

nah it's a cool idea but in practice i worry it'll turn out like the way the plot of the doctor who episode "ghost light" was described to me (i take their word for it that that is the plot because what i watched was utterly incomprehensible)

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:45 (seven years ago)

i think i can say with confidence that this poll will be greater than every episode of doctor who, combined

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:48 (seven years ago)

keep in mind that i've never seen doctor who, but i am confident about this

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:48 (seven years ago)

xxp: in that case KM I'll drop Attar of Roses from my Bob Drake picks, and for my P.E.E. tracks I choose San Salvador, Mexico and Making Soccer History.

It's a futile gesture nominating them in the first place but well I like them and such

ultros ultros-ghali, Thursday, 21 February 2019 00:51 (seven years ago)

I purposely imposed a one-song-per-artist rule for myself. With a (potential) 50 track ballot, though, I may do a max of two per artist.

i did once see a video of every episode of doctor who combined, it was shit, you couldn't see or hear anything

i agree, this poll will definitely be better than that

the scientology of mountains (rushomancy), Thursday, 21 February 2019 01:44 (seven years ago)

Man, it is not fair to this poll that the Ramones, Wire and the Minutemen were simply so good at this
