And just to be clear the capitalisation of 'maudlin of the Well' and 'BOaT' are the way the band's insisted on spelling them, not some kind of stupid typo I manage to do regularly

I'll tackle 2:00 songs tonight. I don't know, though--as a matter of common sense, if you have a song that clocks in at 2:00 on one of your media players, the song itself must be under 2:00 allowing for the dead space before and after the song, which is 1-2 seconds minimum.

I had completely underestimated this exercise, the number of songs runs way into the four-digits and it seems to be an art in itself, plenty of these ditties are wonderful little constructions, whether they're short songs, intros, ad-libs, to the point where I'm thinking we should have done genre / purpose subcategories (and maybe a Madlib - Jay Dee special fightoff). I mean, it's really bad.

Under 1 minute would have been more of a challenge, there's hundreds of great songs under 2 minutes.

At first I opened the songs and thought it said the playlist was 1 hour 21 minutes. Then I realized it was 1 day 21 hours.

Same boat of underestimation, Nabozo. I got 11 day on iTunes! Though as I have a lot of live performances I think the vast majority of this are intros, encore breaks, outros, abandoned songs etc.

I also largely ignored punk, grindcore, metal, and short classical pieces from larger movements because there is nothing "special" about the song being short. Though this was really just a coping mechanism to filter down what I had to look through to something manageable.

That's not me, but the reason my own nominations skewed so contemporary is because I was working off of my CD collection (via iTunes). Am planning on going through my vinyl over the next day or two, which will be trickier--I suspect I'll be doing a lot of verification of song lengths--but hopefully this'll get some older material on my list, at least.

I was kinda arguing in the ballot poll thread that 2 minutes was too long--it's a fairly normal song length. im thinking about limiting myself to only voting for songs 1:45 or shorter, but that'll eliminate most of my favorite songs from the poll (because, again, 1:55 or so is a perfectly normal length for a song)

lol yeah, it's true that the range between 1:45 and 1:59 really does hold an enormous amount of good songs. i'm amazed at how many of my favorites so far are exactly 1:53
