Worth noting that Ryan Adams sent this deranged (and now deleted) tweet earlier today ahead of the New York Times exposé being published. pic.twitter.com/rd8mVkSEQk— ⭐ amy o'connor ⭐ (@amyohconnor) February 13, 2019

I interviewed him when I was a magazine intern, around the time of Love is Hell. He was repulsively dumb and made a joke about how his bad reviews were karmic payback for his ancestors lynching slaves.

when I first heard him in 2000-2001, saw how he dressed, and how he comported himself in interviews, I thought there was now way this man who probably smelled like a jockstrap from which toadstools sprung would ever make interesting music and was probably a post-rock-boom asshole.

Not sure "let's learn I bait" is the type of thing to tweet the day an expose comes out about you with underage girls.

A crisis management pro would have ordered him off of Twitter by now, I think.

They're gonna have to edit that scene in "This Is 40" where Paul Rudd drags Leslie Mann to see Adams in concert... make it the guy from Eels, or somebody like that.

Encountered Ryan Adams one night long ago. He was a complete piece of shit + it involved how he was treating his ex-girlfriend. On the upside, I did become a character in his song ‘Harder Now That It’s Over’. This is true. And the handcuffs in that song are not a metaphor.— Carl Newman (@ACNewman) February 13, 2019

Love to Mandy Moore. I remember feeling bad for her then - she always seemed more level-headed and capable than her teenpop peers at the time but kept making terrible dating choices (Andy Roddick, Zach Braff before Adams). And then they got married and she stopped releasing albums. I just thought she was done with music. :(

I went to see Ryan Adams on his Rock'n'Roll tour in 2003 and I knew from the show that he was a total bellend. Nothing about this seems even remotely surprising, particular after figuring out that Motion Sickness was about him.

I am kind of surprised that the revelation he groomed an underage girl isn't the lead in the NY Times headline.
All the other stuff is horrible, obviously, but that's a criminal matter and surely jail time.
― does it look like i'm here (jon123), Thursday, 14 February 2019 13:58 (seven years ago)
I was surprised about that too. The other things are worse than I imagined—the obsessive messaging, threatening suicide and controlling behavior stuff—but not a surprise to fans of phoebe bridgers.

i liked that whiskeytown record when i was in college but i tried listening to it a few years ago and tossed it in the garbage.
of course he could be stravinsky and his behavior would still be horrid as fuck, so i guess my opinion of his music is beside the point.

at least one other musician (jesse lacey of brand new) but most of the grooming had occurred ten-fifteen years before the news came out iirc, i don’t expect him to face jail time
