Just Another Diamond Day.

Totally different head. Totally. (Austin), Thursday, 7 February 2019 16:58 (seven years ago)

OMG, Minnie Riperton's first album was released this year, too. Stop, 1970, you're killing me rn.

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:08 (seven years ago)

JFC, I hate to be all "music was better back then" but there are 10-15 albums on this list that are better than anything that came out in 2018. In fact, there are albums that widely made 2018 top ten lists that are worse than every single record on this list.

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:13 (seven years ago)

This poll is doing my head in, I can't vote in it.

Wee boats wobble but they don't fall down (Tom D.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:15 (seven years ago)

2018 wasn't that bad. Maybe in 50 years time all the ignored music from 2018 will be mined

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:15 (seven years ago)

Tom did you listen to that T2 song?

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:16 (seven years ago)

Not yet. I'll probably go for "Fun House".

Wee boats wobble but they don't fall down (Tom D.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:16 (seven years ago)

everyone else will vote for that.

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:17 (seven years ago)

In the absence of the Beatles, possibly, though I imagine everyone is sooooo over "Fun House" by now.

Wee boats wobble but they don't fall down (Tom D.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:20 (seven years ago)

more like Dumb House amirite

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:23 (seven years ago)

no way Fun House wont win this poll

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:28 (seven years ago)

You're aware you have a 0% success rate in predicting the winners of these polls so far?

Wee boats wobble but they don't fall down (Tom D.), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:30 (seven years ago)

can’t imagine what it would feel like to be “over” “fun house”

budo jeru, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:31 (seven years ago)

nothing unusual there but I'm convinced I'm right on this one

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:31 (seven years ago)

You'll want to check my albums' ballots for some of these ;)

aquaman goes to college (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:35 (seven years ago)

I've listened to the entire Fun House sessions just to confirm that it's a total snooze. Don't waste your time, kids!

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:38 (seven years ago)

Fun House would be the clear + easy winner when plopped amongst many other random conglomerations of albums but it's in for brutal fight in this particular poll.

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:39 (seven years ago)

Col. Poo has already mentioned most of my 1970 favourites (Can, Beefheart, Deep Purple, Mutantes) but there are still a couple there yet untold:

Randy Holden - Population II
Twink - Think Pink
James Gang - Rides Again

aquaman goes to college (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:41 (seven years ago)

Have not heard at least 15 of these.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid

just over

Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay

nicky lo-fi, Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:44 (seven years ago)

I was 11 and 12 years old in 1970, and couldn't afford many albums. Although I had friends who owned Zep, Sabbath, Hendrix, Santana, etc. I only ever had one on this list and played it to death: CCR.

I don't come off well (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 7 February 2019 17:58 (seven years ago)

Been listening to my 'best of 1970' playlist throughout the morning. Yeah, I could probably be satisfied with just this set of songs for a solid year or so.

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 18:13 (seven years ago)

HOLY SHIT, I just realized Plastic Ono Band (Yoko's volume is what I'm specifically referring to here) is 1970, as well!

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 18:17 (seven years ago)

very easy, Band O Gypsies

flappy bird, Thursday, 7 February 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

I see Curtis Mayfield in a poll, I click Curtis Mayfield in a poll

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2019 18:33 (seven years ago)

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 18:36 (seven years ago)

I've actually never heard of T2 before. Will have to check it out now based on its company on this list

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:25 (seven years ago)

It's a great album

brimstead, Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:26 (seven years ago)

Abraxas for me, astounding sonic earth magic

brimstead, Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:29 (seven years ago)

i think i would have made room for "all things must pass"

budo jeru, Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:53 (seven years ago)

going to vote for "loaded" which i think might win

budo jeru, Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:54 (seven years ago)

Psst, I hate to spoil the ending for u but

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)

Man, it's been a minute since I listened to Curtis, forgot how hard it cooks.

This poll is hard, possibly too hard.

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 20:11 (seven years ago)

XXXpost: Bitches Brew falls far short of Silent Way for me. But as for CCR, those first few are like Ramones, all identically solid. Loaded is lovely, but is missing most of what I want from the Velvets.

eva logorrhea (bendy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 20:21 (seven years ago)

idgi xp

budo jeru, Thursday, 7 February 2019 20:27 (seven years ago)

he means Fun House will walk this poll

Friedrich B. Neechy (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 20:34 (seven years ago)

yes curtis is a perfect album. both it and fun house are probably on my short short list of favorite albums, but i was in a down-and-dirty fun house mood this morning and voted for it.

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Thursday, 7 February 2019 20:36 (seven years ago)

As I progress through my playlist I'm reminded that not only was this an era of absolutely epochal albums but also of so many deliciously frothy AM gold confections.

Seriously, though, mainlining this stuff is...a little overwhelming. Like it's almost too good to take in all at once.

But people get sick on earth in their human form (Old Lunch), Thursday, 7 February 2019 20:42 (seven years ago)

When I was 1st getting into that era of Miles, all you heard about was Bitches Brew. Could be wrong but feel like I just stumbled onto Silent Way on my own. Guess it's generational change in tastes/values from Boomer rockers to Gen X/Millenials?

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 7 February 2019 21:00 (seven years ago)

It does seem that Bitches Brew has, like Sgt. Peppers, been brought down a notch to part of a great run rather than a unique breakthrough.

eva logorrhea (bendy), Thursday, 7 February 2019 21:27 (seven years ago)

i don't really get that sense

budo jeru, Thursday, 7 February 2019 22:18 (seven years ago)

Bee OK what was the results of your old poll for 70?

yes, lets see what happened from a few years back pfunkboy (BTW, this place misses you!):

Acclaimed Music Top 25 Albums from 1970 poll

4 The Stooges - Fun House 17
1 Neil Young - After the Gold Rush 11
25 Curtis Mayfield - Curtis 10
5 Miles Davis - Bitches Brew 9
8 Black Sabbath - Paranoid 6
11 The Velvet Underground - Loaded 5
3 Derek and The Dominos - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs 4
19 Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead 4

Bee OK, Friday, 8 February 2019 00:41 (seven years ago)

rushomancy, do you have a list ?

budo jeru, Friday, 8 February 2019 00:42 (seven years ago)

Paranoid FTW.

Bee OK, Friday, 8 February 2019 00:44 (seven years ago)

This was a little easier than the 1969 poll. Loaded is the pop art art pop peak, even without the outcat ventures of other VU LPs (just as satisfying in its way).
