come to think of it it is quite good, idk what was up my ass about it before. probably not playing loud enough

somebody mentioned idris ackamoor and i'd never heard it so i checked it out, and now i've been playing warrior dance on a loop for 3 hours. i doubt it places but what a great record.

I just want to reiterate that it's a crying shame FACS won't pop up on this list for more people to check them out because their album Negative Houses is a masterpiece of modern post-punk, basically everything I wanted Interpol to be but just weren't.

a brian case band? yeah, i'll check that out.

No idea what FACS and Interpol have in common but I do like that record

I had Sweetener at #7! I wasn’t a fan of it at first but it grew on me

like mold on a licked donut

it's fairly comfortably my least favourite ariana record - that might change tomorrow though lol

GGD is a great return album and I regret not voting for it, didn’t think there would be enough for it in here so preferred to cast votes on something more likely to make it... ironically I don’t think half of my list made it... was my ballot unweighted? I have no idea what my number one was if it was weighted, I would have bet it was Tirzah.

GGD were like top 10 in 2011 (thought that's before i was here) and i figured they'd be like top 20 this year too with an almost-as-good album

Oh wow the Eiko Ishibashi album really opens up on headphones. A Ghost In A Train Thinking is incredible.

this against all logic is quite fun. I think it wld be more enjoyable if it were less familiar

Enjoying the Laurel Halo. Not sure why but never really checked out much of her work before

Random thought I had overnight: could Khruangbin yet place? I didn't vote for it, but I thought the record was well liked round here.

Universal Beings is, along with Neneh Cherry and Saba (thx Pom!), the best discovery for me so far this rollout.

For me it's the opposite, I hated the vocals on that record, but her subsequent instrumental releases have been more appealing, with Raw Silk being the best.

I didn't check out Dust in 2017 cos I heard it has vocals too... Are they as grating as on Quarantine?

dust is my least favourite laurel halo record and you'd probably find it grating

If you heard Laurel Halo's earlier stuff (Hour Logic, King Felix) before later stuff you'd know she was a decent singer (when choosing to be). RSUW is the first thing I've liked by her in years either way.

Yeah, I've no doubt the vocal style she chose for Quarantine was intentional, but that doesn't change the fact it sounds awful.

it’s kind of a v fractured pop record tuomas. took me forever to like it but i sure like it now

I liked Quarantine but on the whole there's something about Halo's productions that don't jibe so well with me

the title track is one of the better pharrell tracks and i liked "successful" a fair bit too because it sounded like animal crossing music. "breathin" is way better though even though it's basically just a dangerous woman leftover

Shame not to see Szun Waves place. It's probably the one I've most often foisted on people this year. And I'm guessing I'm largely alone with my Good, the Bad & the Queen love. God, I feel old.
