I'd somehow semi-consciously been assuming that Against All Logic was a punk band. ― jmm, Wednesday, February 6,

I will be disappointed if whack world makes it
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:20 (seven years ago)
I am going to get over myself and listen to the " tropical fuck storm "

Where do you stand on Nick Cave karaoke?
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:39 (seven years ago)
on its throat preferably
― ||||||||, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:40 (seven years ago)
I'm thinking we could have the same top two as Pitchfork (Kacey and Mitski) but with the albums swapped round. I also have a feeling Autechre are going to do better than people expect. I could see them doing a Ten Love Songs and getting a good amount of number one votes.
I just can't see The 1975 winning. If the last album only made number seven, I'd be surprised if this one was higher as several people thought it was disappointing as a whole.

Oh wow "Atlantic Black" on Universal Beings. First time listener to McCraven.
― Indexed, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:41 (seven years ago)
It's going to be really underwhelming when Robyn wins.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:42 (seven years ago)
I was expecting the Cavern of Anti-Matter album to make the 77 given the last one did and Hormone Lemonade got a lot of love early on in 2018, but no way it's Top 20. So, that's my official guess for #78, ulysses. However, secretly hoping Yves Tumor got 78'd as that record irritated the hell out of me.
Some surprises in today's section. Never heard of McCraven or AAL, will check those out ASAP.

i don't really think this is true
it's less good than their last one but has more momentum and goodwill behind it, i can see it happening
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:47 (seven years ago)
I sneakily suspect Low could win because it was my #1 and I've never been a Low stan. There must be others like me.

i hate to be like they're surprisingly boring for the band name but they're surprisingly boring for the band name
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:53 (seven years ago)
the cover art is exciting though
― simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:54 (seven years ago)
however i would like to be a little more fair to them and say, on this second go-around, that i don't hate it!
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:56 (seven years ago)
Yeah yeah whatever this Meshell album is incredible.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)
Are there going to be no rap records in the top 20 this year?
― We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)
seeing TFS described as boring is funny to me cause several ppl I've played it for found it actively distressing/anxiety-inducing
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)
it's pretty straightforward rockin' out to me once you look beyond the weird surface
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:04 (seven years ago)
if you can sit through the climactic verse of 'soft power' and still claim boredom then you're probably ready for space
― imago, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:06 (seven years ago)
also what i said was "surprisingly boring for the band name," all the qualifiers are important
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:07 (seven years ago)
wish I'd thought to nom + campaign for the "stayin' alive" cover tbh

i had plenty of time for the drones but tfs is basically the less-good moments of the drones (of which there was no shortage, honestly) consolidated
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:32 (seven years ago)
More than the music of TFS I hated the frontman aiming for misanthropy but coming across as a pissy little whiner (pot, kettle) I remember thinking the instrumental was fairly decent.
― ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:37 (seven years ago)
he can be....a lot so when the songs sprawl like this it wears thin.
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:38 (seven years ago)
it’s true that the peak of mount MES peers down into an uncanny valley littered with embarrassing / corny / annoying vocal performances
― budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:46 (seven years ago)
Gareth is def the most common sticking point, but thankfully the targets are generally well chosen (OK maybe not on "Shut Down SETI") and he is at least capable of toning it down a song or two at a time
― bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:49 (seven years ago)
he isn't taking after nick cave or mes! just you all wait until i hear all the other albums that placed today

oh and here is a SPOTIFY PLAYLIST for Rock/Metal Poll Nominations
― Oor Neechy, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 21:00 (seven years ago)
Omg it's Shabaka Hutchings himself who's been helping to absolutely rip up the last few tracks! Maybe I should give Sons Of Kemet a full go. This seems kind of even better and wilder though from what I've heard of SOK. Now I've established that this is indeed culled from recordings in four different cities the concept got even cooler
― imago, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 21:01 (seven years ago)
really thought SOK would be a lock but I don't see it making top 20. maybe I'll be surprised!!
― frogbs, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 21:15 (seven years ago)
me too i am very positively surprised by the mccraven album. a great jazz discovery! low has got to be in the top 3!

shhh don't tell him there's spiritual hat prog jazz in the ILM jazz poll
― Oor Neechy, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 21:28 (seven years ago)
What the hell? I voted for all of Sweatshirt, McCraven, TFS, AAL, RBCF and Pusha T from this lot. Was only confident of the rap selections being this high.
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 22:22 (seven years ago)
...and Uchis too. Less surprising.
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 22:25 (seven years ago)
I thought Sweetener would be top 10!
― ⅋ (crüt), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 22:42 (seven years ago)
nb I didn’t vote for it.
