would love aviary to win, but can’t really see it happening

goats eat grandma (NickB), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 18:58 (seven years ago)

Low would be an amazing winner but it's gonna be kacey

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:00 (seven years ago)

Kacey would be an amazing winner but it's gonna be the 1975

omar little, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

My favorite thing TFS released in 2018 was their wild cover of "Stayin' Alive."

Thank you ! Well worth tracking.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

no 1 has to be kacey surely

||||||||, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:02 (seven years ago)

the 1975 had what seven songs in the top eight on the tracks countdown, or something terrible like that? i figure it's gotta be them.

omar little, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:03 (seven years ago)

I #1spotted Aviary without a second thought. I'd be really happy if it was Musgraves. The rest can get lost in the storm.

Nabozo, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:03 (seven years ago)

FM! and/or ASTROWORLD possible for the top 20? I will be disappointed if Whack World does not make it.

Indexed, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:04 (seven years ago)

vince & travis aren't getting higher than earl or push

lowercase (eric), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:06 (seven years ago)

I was expecting to see Sarah Davachi, Nao, and Nadah el Shazly in the top 77, but it doesn't seem very likely any of them would've made it this high. :(

Tuomas, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:11 (seven years ago)

I'd somehow semi-consciously been assuming that Against All Logic was a punk band.
― jmm, Wednesday, February 6,

me too! great album!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:12 (seven years ago)

I will be disappointed if whack world makes it

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:20 (seven years ago)

I am going to get over myself and listen to the " tropical fuck storm "

||||||||, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:36 (seven years ago)

Where do you stand on Nick Cave karaoke?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:39 (seven years ago)

on its throat preferably

||||||||, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:40 (seven years ago)

I'm thinking we could have the same top two as Pitchfork (Kacey and Mitski) but with the albums swapped round. I also have a feeling Autechre are going to do better than people expect. I could see them doing a Ten Love Songs and getting a good amount of number one votes.

I just can't see The 1975 winning. If the last album only made number seven, I'd be surprised if this one was higher as several people thought it was disappointing as a whole.

kitchen person, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:40 (seven years ago)

Oh wow "Atlantic Black" on Universal Beings. First time listener to McCraven.

Indexed, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:41 (seven years ago)

It's going to be really underwhelming when Robyn wins.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:42 (seven years ago)

I was expecting the Cavern of Anti-Matter album to make the 77 given the last one did and Hormone Lemonade got a lot of love early on in 2018, but no way it's Top 20. So, that's my official guess for #78, ulysses. However, secretly hoping Yves Tumor got 78'd as that record irritated the hell out of me.

Some surprises in today's section. Never heard of McCraven or AAL, will check those out ASAP.

i don't really think this is true

it's less good than their last one but has more momentum and goodwill behind it, i can see it happening

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:47 (seven years ago)

I sneakily suspect Low could win because it was my #1 and I've never been a Low stan. There must be others like me.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:51 (seven years ago)

I am going to get over myself and listen to the " tropical fuck storm "

i hate to be like they're surprisingly boring for the band name but they're surprisingly boring for the band name

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:53 (seven years ago)

the cover art is exciting though

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:54 (seven years ago)

however i would like to be a little more fair to them and say, on this second go-around, that i don't hate it!

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:56 (seven years ago)

Yeah yeah whatever this Meshell album is incredible.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)

Are there going to be no rap records in the top 20 this year?

We were never Breeting Borting (President Keyes), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 19:57 (seven years ago)

seeing TFS described as boring is funny to me cause several ppl I've played it for found it actively distressing/anxiety-inducing

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:03 (seven years ago)

it's pretty straightforward rockin' out to me once you look beyond the weird surface

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:04 (seven years ago)

if you can sit through the climactic verse of 'soft power' and still claim boredom then you're probably ready for space

imago, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:06 (seven years ago)

also what i said was "surprisingly boring for the band name," all the qualifiers are important

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:07 (seven years ago)

wish I'd thought to nom + campaign for the "stayin' alive" cover tbh

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:10 (seven years ago)

sex and hurricanes both v v exciting, it’s true

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:13 (seven years ago)

nah, tropical fuck storm in a teacup innit

goats eat grandma (NickB), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:14 (seven years ago)

i won't agree if Robyn wins but only bc it was my #2

omar little, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:15 (seven years ago)

i wrote an excellent pitchfork review of this one too

i'm way behind, catching up, but that was a lovely piece of writing, brad.

lefal junglist platton (wtev), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:18 (seven years ago)

guys ngl I put the vynehall DJ kicks on instead

||||||||, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:23 (seven years ago)

i had plenty of time for the drones but tfs is basically the less-good moments of the drones (of which there was no shortage, honestly) consolidated

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:32 (seven years ago)

More than the music of TFS I hated the frontman aiming for misanthropy but coming across as a pissy little whiner (pot, kettle) I remember thinking the instrumental was fairly decent.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:37 (seven years ago)

he can be....a lot so when the songs sprawl like this it wears thin.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:38 (seven years ago)

it’s true that the peak of mount MES peers down into an uncanny valley littered with embarrassing / corny / annoying vocal performances

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:46 (seven years ago)

Gareth is def the most common sticking point, but thankfully the targets are generally well chosen (OK maybe not on "Shut Down SETI") and he is at least capable of toning it down a song or two at a time

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:49 (seven years ago)

he isn't taking after nick cave or mes! just you all wait until i hear all the other albums that placed today

imago, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:50 (seven years ago)

Lol

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:51 (seven years ago)

Niiiice

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

That's after I finish this McCraven thing, which is still impressing me immensely (do I have to like jazz now)

imago, Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

i hope the Low silent majority pulls through

diamonddave85 (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 6 February 2019 20:54 (seven years ago)

Drugs a money wanted an extension incase anyone wanted that extra week so you can vote.

All voters welcome.

If you like something vote for it. You can choose up to 50 albums if you wish.
