iirc I was the #1 for this, so obligatory TOO LOW but also yay!

rob, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:31 (seven years ago)

Hailu Mergia is sounding pretty great.

jmm, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:32 (seven years ago)

Yeah, at least it placed!

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:32 (seven years ago)

xp
I wonder if the exact same nine people voted in the Outside poll thread

rob, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:33 (seven years ago)

Burna that is

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:33 (seven years ago)

that emerald pulse song was good enough but i dunno if i could take a whole album of that stuff

imago, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:35 (seven years ago)

i think the hailu is my only vote that placed. (i say think bc i didn't save my ballot and now i don't really remember what i voted for)

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:37 (seven years ago)

[so far]

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:37 (seven years ago)

jon hopkins places: I sleep

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:38 (seven years ago)

like jon hopkins though this record doesn't really do anything that the previous one didn't do and this one doesn't have 'sun harmonics' on it so it's the lesser

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:38 (seven years ago)

burna boy is sounding spirited rn

imago, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:39 (seven years ago)

Yeah, I thought the extremely low placing of “Ye” especially meant that all these people had put Outside extra high on their album ballot, so this placing is quite disappointing —- but yay, at least it did place (I think I had it as my #2).

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:41 (seven years ago)

(xps to rob)

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:42 (seven years ago)

Charlie Puth.

How credible.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:42 (seven years ago)

Curious about the Jon Hopkins. I loved the track that placed in the Tracks 77.

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:43 (seven years ago)

Enjoying Outside after two or three listens although 'Ye' is still very much the highlight for me.

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:43 (seven years ago)

didn't really discover Outside until around the time of the voting thread, would've voted for it if I had started listening earlier

Dan S, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:43 (seven years ago)

I thought the Jon Hopkins album as good as it was didn’t reach the heights of the Skee Mask

Dan S, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:44 (seven years ago)

xp
Yeah I thought Outside had escaped the rolling thread bubble, but it's ok. Maybe there's no connection between them, but I wonder if this means Popcaan won't be appearing at all, or Simmy?

rob, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:47 (seven years ago)

I really need to give this album a proper listen, enjoyed the previous two a lot

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:48 (seven years ago)

Seeing Wye Oak on here makes me hopeful a related album shows up too.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:50 (seven years ago)

the last 3 songs are my favorite part of this one

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:50 (seven years ago)

I'm not really familiar with Wye Oak (I'd heard If Children but that's it) but yeah, this was a nice record.

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:53 (seven years ago)

starting to breathe a sigh of relief that i won’t place in this poll

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:54 (seven years ago)

Civilian is still my favorite indie record of the decade

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:54 (seven years ago)

can't rly place what this is, which might be a good thing

imago, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:55 (seven years ago)

Can’t imagine Popcaan placing higher than Burna tbh

Also fear that Simmy might have missed the 77 boat...

All hopes resting on Sun-El now!

xps

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:55 (seven years ago)

HELL YES BUT ALSO TOO LOW

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:57 (seven years ago)

shock collared at the gates of heaven

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:58 (seven years ago)

Lich Prince is the one for me off this. Fun record all around though

imago, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:58 (seven years ago)

hmmm haven't heard this one

ciderpress, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:58 (seven years ago)

can’t remember if i voted for this. it still sounds like my depressive episode in august which is why i might not have

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:59 (seven years ago)

Great album too low

Mordy, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:59 (seven years ago)

I've never been even heard of the last two bands(?) to place. :)

Tuomas, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:59 (seven years ago)

two straight that i voted for

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:59 (seven years ago)

lich prince is the highlight among highlights tho, agreed

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 15:59 (seven years ago)

Now I need to hear 'Lich Prince' based on its title alone.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:00 (seven years ago)

Also, have not heard any of the albums so far. Skee Mask sounds like it could be up my alley, I guess I'll give it a try.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:00 (seven years ago)

I didn't even notice there was another Wye Oak album last year!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:01 (seven years ago)

wye oak alb is so good, my favorite track is lifer, the way it creeps along until exploding with the guitar solo and final verse

simmy simmy ya, simmy yam simmy yay (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:02 (seven years ago)

YESSSSS

my #1

ladies n gents, welcome to SOUND IN EXCELSIS

imago, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:06 (seven years ago)

I found "Now Only" to be very impressive, and that's from someone who found the music of A Crow Looked at Me unbearable. I like his stream of consciousness, and he really puts it into songs, so even though it's raw and autobiographical, it's not a slow painful dirge like other grieving releases I've heard (Nick Cave...), the songwriting is outstanding. Definitely too low.
Glad for Outside even if it's more about the hits for me.
Haven't heard the last few. Hope the Poll continues to deliver. I'll come back late tonight (CET).

Nabozo, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:07 (seven years ago)

Nice. Based on what's likely to place from here on out I'd say it's a case of too low, even though it didn't make my ballot.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:07 (seven years ago)

I only heard the Armed album yesterday for the first time

Oor Neechy, Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:08 (seven years ago)

HELL YEAH

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 16:08 (seven years ago)

I'm actually still re-digesting how good Lich Prince -> Gameshark off the Foxing album is, but my #1 has rudely turned up so I can hardly talk about both!

Uh you should all go on Youtube and watch The Armed's videos. Heavily Lined is video of the year. And listen to Luxury Themes. And Witness. You should have worked out by then if this swirl of beautiful mad noise is for you
